TUNEAGE: "The Killing of Georgie (Part I and II)" written and recorded by Rod Stewart. It was released as a track on his album, A Night on the Town, in 1976. The song tells the story of a gay man who was killed in New York City. It is a two-part song: Part I, the more popular hit, was blended into the more melancholy and sombre Part II of the song.
In the May, 1995 issue of Mojo, Stewart explained: "That was a true story about a gay friend of The Faces. He was especially close to me and Mac. But he was knifed or shot, I can't remember which. That was a song I wrote totally on me own over the chord of open E."

My all-time favorite Rod Stewart song is Tonight's the Night. The killing of Georgie, however, runs a very close second. An old college friend of mine introduced this song to me some 40 years ago, knowing I would like it. He was right. 👍
Rod is no clod when it comes to singing and performing!
One of his best,great song!
Sir Rod Stewart. So deserved of a Knighthood.
When this masterpiece was produced it wasn’t common to show empathy towards the gay community.
Rod had the image of a popular womanizer and to put this one out was very special......
And it worked very well...no silly press 💪
Thanks very much Rod Steward 🎉
One of my all time fav Rod songs. Great story, heartbreaking totally class song. Makes me cry.
welling up right now x
Your right I cry to a lot of Rod's songs loved him every since I was 13 reminds me of back in good ole 70's ♥️
You can see the women in that string section are SO proud to be be playing for him...theyre all just beaming with such pride...what a great song Rod....probably means more today than it did back then.
This guy is PHENOMENAL. Rod, I love ❤you
One of my fav songs too. Must admit like this version better than when he was younger and trying to be a bit more "theatrical" The message comes across more sincere now. Thanks Rod!

Absolutely one of his finest songs.... love it
The 3 backing singers has been with him for at least 10 years now
I agree great song but very sad that's reality at times
In my life I didn't know Rod Stewart ever wrote a song like this. Incredibly brave for its time.
Should be a bigger worldwide song. Class
Rod Stewart may not be the most prolific writer, but the vast majority of those songs he has written are touching as hell and so, so meaningful.
Maggie May, The Killing of Georgie, Young Turks, Mandolin Wind, You Wear It Well, You’re In My Heart, Gasoline Alley, Forever Young.
Rod co-wrote some of these songs and others he wrote on his own.
Agreed he's written some really underrated gems that people forget about and jump to songs like the first cut is the deepest or downtown train
But as you said
Songs like
Mandolin Wind
Lost in you
Every picture tells a story
Every Beat of my heart
You're in my heart
You wear it well
Etc. Are brilliant and deserve more attention
His best song ever
This song tugs at my heart. He was a friend. ❤
Stephanie M❤ yep

I wonder why he leaves out that one verse with "The last time I saw Georgie alive..." in every performance.
GREAT!!!

A coisa mais linda do mundo é essa música!!! Amo demais
Tip of the iceberg... Rod never gives nothing but his best.
Brilliant
The female musician with the terrific smile (@ 4.34) steels the show!
You can see the sadness in his eyes. :(
the studio version entered Cashbox June 18, 1977
DONT LET ME DOWN!!!!
The women are so amazing.
I bet old Rod did all the female backing singers here Legend .....
Fantastic back vocals especially at the end. Is it Lucy or Di who rises over the other vocals? It's superb breathe control.
Screeches. Listen to it the way it should be. 70s clip. Beautuful
Combo song...Lou Reeds "Walk on the Wild Side" and Lennon's" "Don't let me down"
Onya Rod
He skipped two verses, but I still enjoyed the performance!
Georgie shouldn't have been out so late. It's mad in Soho at four in the morning. Weird, in'nit?
Brilliant, Brilliant song.Did Rod ever release this as a single?
