      I see it every weekend.
      Refs either over call(rare but preferred).
      Or they wait until there is a non hockey penalty; and they respond by usually throwing out a kid who has been slashed/tripped/boarded repeatedly and gets tossed when he has enough and defends himself because the ref isnt.
      And leagues or associations are too scared to file complaints; so it perpetuates.

      @@obenwahkenobib8899 I see it too. I think there needs to be a review every game. The new checking rules are being completely ignored at a lot of our High School JV games. Some kids are just flying around hitting to be hitting. Sticks have to be below their knees and they have to be making some sort of play at the puck per the USA Hockey association videos. My grandson was out for 4 wks due to an illegal hit from an angle from behind. Not only an illegal hit, but charging as well as he came from across center ice to catch him on a dump in, put him into the wall. Straned MCL. He was hit from behind the shift earlier and should have been boarding... NOT CALLS! I watch those same two in other games and they are always in the box.

    It's amazing how important and impactful youth coaching is. Two polar opposite examples right here. Team in white often looking to their bench after something happens, as if to ask "What is going on out here?" and the blue team, well...a lot needs to change for those kid's mindset.

    • @KW1___998
      @KW1___998 2 роки тому +8

      I'm not gonna lie, coaching is important but some kids are naturally just assholes on the ice. I had great coaches, but I was always that kid on the ice who just wanted to fuck somebody up. I wasn't particularly skilled at scoring goals and laying kids flat was the only way I felt I can benefit my team. It wasn't until I broke someone's leg in what was pretty much a blatant boarding call, ending that kids season after his parents drove him 4 hours to play. I felt so bad and realized I had to change the way I play. I still sucked, but I wasn't out there to take someone's head off on every play. The kid really reminded me of my atom hockey days lol. Either way I don't think anybody should play like this, but some people are just natural assholes.

    Few years ago, my son was on a stacked PeeWee team. They were pounding most teams, but the coach was very cognizant about not embarrassing the other teams. Once we were up by 5 or 6, he would start pumping the brakes. Put defenders on offense and forwards back, no rushing the puck, top players would get less ice time, even having lefties and righties switch sticks.
    Well, we were playing a sectional game against a pretty bad team, who had a completely out of control punk on the team. His forte was the ref check, followed by slashing, cross checks to the head, etc., behind the play. Everybody in the rink saw what was going on, except for the refs (because of the kid doing ref checks before his sh1t). So, our coach called timeout, and specifically told the team to keep going hard and getting goals. 12-0, 14-0, 16-0. Their coach is looking down the line at our coach with his hands raised (like, what the hell are you doing?). Our coach replied with an epic line: "as long as #__ is on the ice, we are running it up".

      What a legend. I played Hockey for about 13 years and god does that sound like a great coach. Our city always had like 6 stacked team per level (B, A) and top tier teams in AA and BB. Some years we went away for tournaments and god did I hate when we reached the finals just to face a super stacked team that did not care at all and the match would be so one-sided. What you son's coach did was class and that's how they should all act

    • @merikano2985
      @merikano2985 6 місяців тому +1

      @@EternityGamesVids While other kids were playing T-ball me and my best friend were learning to skate, and we both had our jobs. He was bigger than most kids and a great defensemen. I was smaller but had good aim and could deke - you can tell where this is going. The amount of times I heard #46 (my jersey) shouted from the other team's bench LOL. Still I wasn't Gretzky and would drop my gloves as would most players but it wasn't my role on the team - my coach would get annoyed when I did but hey, some sh*t gets said or done that you don't let slide. There's honor in the sport. But back to my buddy, he was pushing 6'1" by high school and was jacked, no one wanted to go up against him. But if you came after one of us you came after all of us.
      And it's not like our parents were any different either. Didn't matter if you were a first generation hockey player or second or third; you and your family grows up in that culture and it becomes just another aspect of the sport. From a parent's perspective - just standing there in the bleachers behind glass watching helplessly as their kid gets shoved around - it happens long enough that parent either pulls their child from the sport or helps them toughen up to at least take care of themselves out there.
      And our coaches had the exact same mindset - they were all players themselves and had the same upbringing we did, but the coaches that always stood out were the ones who would get in the ref's face when they see their players getting screwed over. It didn't happen often (most of the time I had good refs) but the bad ones? We would bang our sticks against the boards when they threw our coach out of the rink, and our coach would wait in the parking lot afterward to make sure all his players got out of that rink. This one coach in bantam was such a dad to us all and looked out for us we nicknamed him Lieutenant Dan (Forest Gump). But he didn't like being referred to as an Lt so we "demoted" him to Sergeant and from that point thereafter he was Sergeant Dan.
      I tried playing other sports, games like baseball and football. But just nothing compared to the competitiveness (football felt too constraining you could say). As for baseball? Maybe if I was a catcher and could chirp batters baseball would've grown on me. But nah. Hockey is not only a different kind of sport but a different kind of life and with the fighting its either you get it or your don't. Fights "set the tone" and can swing the momentum of a game. It gets us energized it gets the crowd back into it. If you're going into the third period and haven't scored a single goal and are frustrated and feels like you're just hitting your head against a brick wall? Something needs to happen, and its why I will always hold that fighting is as much apart of hockey as puck handling.

Sometimes that leads one team to take advantage and do whatever they can get away with. That fault lies with the coaches of the offending team.

    Newer refs are often assigned to lower level games and age groups. They are often teenagers (though that does not seem the case here). These appear to be atom house-league blue/white level so don’t expect top notch officiating. Kids in this age group are often prone to falling at the slightest touch so refs will allow them to play. The video is being presented and edited from the white team so we don’t know how many infractions against blue were waived and if the game was called evenly. They should address the stuff after the play for sure and that is on the coaches as well.

    • @jackchadwick645

      That’s the problem in these lower levels. Often kids, if they are smart, will dive to attempt to get a penalty (which happens more than you think) so it gets real hard to tell. Then the kids team gets upset when their dive doesn’t work and starts screaming at me and ugh.

    Saw a kid overhead ax chop one of our players in the head when getting up from a pile. This was 8u. And the kid was known to "have a history" of bad behavior. Told his coach, he shouldnt be allowed on ice until they manage his anger.

    Sometimes refs are just blind AF. We lost the champion ship game in peewee because they brought down 3 AA bantam players when the ref found out he just continued the game like nothing happened.

    • @albrown9609
      @albrown9609 2 роки тому

      The ref is there to officiate the game he can not disallow players that are on the bench to play. If your coach had any knowledge of how it works a protest should of been made after the game. The governing authorities would have reviewed the roster. That coach would be suspended for quite awhile. But you lost the game and I've heard that excuse before. So I don't believe that happened!!

    I hate to say it when I played hockey young like this, this is how kids get hurt.
    Team would do this, and eventually other team gets sick of it and they destroy a kid on the other team either good player or the worst offender. Nothing was off limits… fights in hallways, cross checks to the face, etc…
    A coach who lets their team do this and refs who don’t call it, are putting players at risk.
    Note: If refs didn’t call anything, players would shoot the pucks at the refs. This was 20 years ago maybe things have changed…

      Exactly, if the ref isn’t doing his job then the behavior escalates. It can get to the point that there are line brawls in the older ages (16 or 18u)

    Poor ref'ing. The league officials need to be informed and requested to monitor these refs on a regular basis till it is confirmed they know how to ref to the proper level of this league.
    There are TWO refs on the ice. There is no excuse for their many failures. Perhaps they really do not know what they are doing. I wonder if they are both waiting for reactions from the parents behind the boards before they blow whistles.

  • @brianschulte6446
    @brianschulte6446 2 роки тому +1

    Kids can only take so much. When bodies are on the ice more than they should be, officials should take notice. Miss managed ice is dangerous, missing that many calls is simply not being home. You report them to your scheduler or ref scheduler and block them from officiating any further games for your org. Imagine if this was a pee wee or higher game where the kids have a greater chance of hurting themselves or getting a multi-game suspension???

    I put the blame on the 2 match ref's, were these ref's from the home team, one ref can miss calls but 2 ,you don't miss nothing and the foot slue sorry match penalty to kick the boot of the young player he could have fall on the back of his head ,coursing a fature or concussion ,the ref's set the tone and rhythm of the game , get the calls in early to make it known to both sets of players ,how the game will be played
