Most times, less is more. I love that you don't include as many ingredients in your soil mix, as many do. I've actually got a test going for my succulents. I have some in regular succulent mix and the other portion in all the works. Both portions have been growing generally the same but also, I haven't noticed a huge difference. Overall I've found it comes down to preference, especially if you're growing outdoors vs. indoors. Thanks for your video! Great job!
I totally agree less is more, especially when you’re lazy like me!! That’s really interesting though that the succs are pretty much all growing the same. I think it just proves that lots of fancy soil amendments aren’t necessary!
I missed your upload last week, but assumed you were busy. I'm glad you did this video since my VSOH is a little loser. I paid way too much for a tiny fart of a plant and it just doesn't do anything. I recently moved it to my magical hoya window so we'll see what happens. It's just one short string of disappointment. Do you think I should bite the bullet and cut it to try and prop? My other strings of things are doing great. My new Spades are trying to wrap around my kitchen faucet, my Samurai, all its neighbors on the cactus window, etc. I've just bombed a new victim with another prop from my regular SOH. That thing is insane; it's so long that I trip over it when I'm trying to move it. I give it monthly haircuts and then feel as if I should root all the clippings. I'm running out of people to dump them on.
I had one of those glass display domes from ikea and put my tiny vsoh into it and it LOVES it. Keeps the humidity quite high and I barely have to water it, but its at least tripled in size in the last 3 months
I second Danika’s comment! Maybe try to increase your humidity levels? Also I would definitely recommend propping it a little but just in case you end up losing the full plant then you’ll have a fall back!
I really need to get some more domes! So many plants LOVE them! I’m going to try the thrift store next time I go to see if I can find anything that can be used for tbat
This is so helpful! I've been toying around with getting one of these because my local nursery just started carrying them. They're so beautiful, but I feel like my cats would destroy a plant like this :(. Maybe I can persuade my mother-in-law to get one... then I can live vicariously through her, lol.
Ahhh yes I’m so glad this could help you out!! This is one of those plants I keep super high on a shelf or hanging because my cats also are just absolute menaces🤦🏻♀️
I am currently propping SOH and VSOH with the butterfly method in soil with a bag. My regular ones are not doing much. I should maybe take them out of the humidity and see if there is an improvement. The VSOH prop is growing nicely. When you prop in perlite, when do you take them out and plant in soil?
Good question!! Usually when the roots are about an inch long for these plants! For other plants I wait until there are several inches of root growth but string of hearts have a shallow root system so an inch is a decent amount of roots!
Hi Jessie , I ordered a v.soh online and received it with one 10cm string with a tiny tuber and the leaves are sparse and wrinkly. what should i do to save it???😭
Oh no!! First check the roots. If they’re in good shape then you can just place it in some bright light and water well and it should bounce back. If the roots are super sparse and rotting then I would trim the whole thing up and try to regrow roots in perlite/moss!
My Variegated String Of Hearts are easier and grow so much faster than my String Of Hearts. 👀 All of them, excluding one VSOH in moss as it was given to me, have the same soil that I make, they all get watered when the top leaves start to get bendy, all in the same light, same humidity, same fertiliser. All of my VSOH (again, excluding the one potted in moss) grow very fast and have large, thick leaves and grow very nicely overall. Where as my SOH have small leaves, grow so slowly and are etiolated like crazy. Even when I chop them, the new growth is so leggy. Nothing I've done has made them even half as happy as my VSOH.
I agree, my variegated string of hearts always seem to do much better than the regular version! Which is lucky because they are so much more expensive🥲
I wish this video came last week 😭 I traded my plant because I couldn't figure out why it declined in my care. I used to have a 4" pot and half of it died.
NOOOO! I’m so sorry that happened! Don’t give up on them altogether though, maybe in the future you can give another plant a go! They’re so rewarding and pretty
The pink is it being sun stressed! It's beautiful.

Love your channel and your peaceful planty vibes xxx
Thank you so much!!🥺
Congratulations on 900 subscribers, Jessie!
Thank you so much!!
It would be cool to see an example of the butterfly method in perlite! I always wonder how much water to add as well
Glad to see another video, but please don't feel bad about taking a week off from UA-cam! Your health is far more important. ❤

Missed you last week! I don't have a VSOH but I eye them whenever I come across them in a store. The pink is so dreamy!
I wanted one for a good full year before I ended up getting one! Are they reasonably priced near you? Here they’re pretty expensive😢
@@approachableplantsbyjessie495 they are! I've seen 4 inch pots for about 15euros/17usd
@@CaitlinSewsSometimes holy heck you gotta grab one! here a 4in pot is easily $60-$80!
@@approachableplantsbyjessie495 WHAT??
@@CaitlinSewsSometimes Yes!! I forgot to mention in this video but I had paid $40 for mine as a small 2in plug. They're so expensive here:(

@@approachableplantsbyjessie495 i regret giving it away but like you said i will try again. where do you get horticultural charcoal for your plants?
Hi, what type of soil for yr VSOH.thanks
Hi,what type of soil for string of hearts.thaks
A chunky mix is best! I use regular houseplant soil with extra perlite and horticulture charcoal
@@approachableplantsbyjessie495 thanks
