As usual the 50s Kid makes a good video. I watched this after my AC stopped today. Went out and looked at my compressor before hitting SEND on that FCP Euro cart (compressor, oil). No belt. Or should I say - shredded belt. Car is 22 years old so of course I thought it was the compressor. Autozone - $16 - drive home. New belt installed in 5 minutes. Ice cold AC.
Bro awesome video. To the point and good cam view. I have a question about the alignment of the pulleys. If they spin smooth with no wiggle does that confirm that the pulleys are aligned? I’m doing mine for the first time because I noticed my a/c belt has a split down the middle(long way)
Yikes! Time to do it! If you have proper parts, they bolt into place perfect. Be sure they don’t spin super freely with any noise. They should have a little dampening built in. Pulleys are cheap. Cheers!
@@robdude1969 yikes is right my friend..my exact thought when I noticed it. Was checking and topping off fluids and just happened to look down. I’ll be sure to check it all thoroughly. Thanks for the info bro I definitely appreciate it
Does anybody know if having no serpentine belt can cause the car to not have heat? I know it has to do with A/C but my car has had no heat and I’ve replaced every component, and my car has no serpentine belt. I bought a replacement and waiting for it to arrive but still just wondering if the absence of the belt can cause no heat. Thank you
Power steering, a/c, alternator run off these belts. Maybe because no alternator, you get no heater, but that’s an electric fan driving it. It should at least blow air with the engine off.
@@robdude1969 it blows air with engine off, it just doesn’t get hot. My alternator also gets charged fine as I’ve replaced the other belt prior. I’m honestly not too sure why I get no heat as I’ve replaced everything from heater core to all the coolant hoses and expansion tank. Honestly was just considering getting another car since winters coming up and I had to survive last New Jersey winter with no heat lol
@@bjornzek it's possible you have a big bubble in your lines. Have you driven a lot since rebuilding the coolant system? Look up burping the coolant system.
@@robdude1969 yeah dude I’ve bled the lines countless times all to no avail which is why I’m considering just getting a new car for the winter. If it spins very freely and you hear crunchy noise, it may be showing wear. There may also be a looseness feeling. The new ones feel snug and have a viscous slowness to spinning.
@@robdude1969 I think I get it now, thanks. I’m doing water pump and thermostat tomorrow but I haven’t ordered belts and pulleys. Oh well, a project is never finished anyway
Whats the second belt for? I dont have tension pulley next to it on the left side, theres not even a belt ,is this needed lol mother in law asked to change serpentine belt and i saw only one belt broken
Vincent LE It is not necessary at all. The top dead center setting is done when installing the chain or belt that drives, the pistons, camshaft, crankshaft and oil pump.
You don't need a special wrench - a standard open-end wrench will do, though it helps if it's extra long. I bought a cheap one at a farming supply store. The fan isn't torqued on, so it doesn't take much to loosen. If the belt is still in place, a smack with a hammer on the end of the wrench should be enough to break the fan loose. If the belt is already off, then you can fabricate a makeshift strap wrench to hold the pulley with a section of the belt and vice grip pliers.
There 3 or4 torx 30 bolts on back of the plastic fan itself you gotta feel for em use an3/8 ratchet and the t30 and just remove the fan it gives you enough room and saves times
@@VictorGarcia-gy8yv It’s cool to watch people do that. I’ve tried, but it takes a knack that I don’t have to get the tappage on just the right spot at just the right amount of force. I

love the nice calm tutorial instead of the "whats up guys" attitude. thanks man
Great video man this came to me at the perfect time. Also bro your voice is very calming when I feel like losing my top while I'm working on my car
I feel like a noob searching this but better be safe than sorry. Good video
Glad it helped!
These are not specific to timing. You will be fine in any position for these two belts.

Thank u brotha, on my car the main tensioner was a 16 mm nut but the other one was the standard 50 😂 bmw is weird preciate u
Don't use the centre hex screws to adjust, they both have 13mm adjuster heads built into thair cast to adjust these belts,.
Excellent video. The calming voice firstly convinced me I can do this and secondly chilled me the f*ck out! You should be a narrator!
Ive replaced my tensioner due to failure, however no matter how much force i put on it, it wont budge, any ideas?
Every time I turn it to the right so the tensioner moved outta the way, it just tightens I don’t understand

nope. you may decide to pull the fan if you need more space.

I’m unsure on how to take the fan off with non special tools
A lot of times you use a wrench and a hammer to undo it, but remember it is reverse threaded, also if you have an air hammer it helps
