    It's amazing how many people on UA-cam messed this DIY up with poor camera angles and lighting, spending way too much time talking uneccessarily and cutting out the re-installation.
    Yours however was nice and clear, especially appreciate seeing both the hydraulic and spring tensioners off the car so I can see the bolt locations and sizes if I need to remove them (I don't know which one I have yet).
    Thanks.

    Excellent video man! My Serpentine belt broke last night on my way home from work & instead of panicking, I turned to UA-cam & found your video! I am going to replace the belt myself today thanks to your instructional video! I will be checking my pulleys too! Thank you for such a clear instructional video!!!

    Hi Han, I just finished up fixing the X5 last night. Turns out the water pump went bad, froze up, and that is what threw the belts off. cracked the pulley as well.
    I put on a new pulley, tension pulleys, belts, fan clutch, and water pump. Runs like a champ now. Again thanks for the video. gave me all the confidence I needed to get the job done. Saved a ton of money doing it myself as well.
    Take care, and keep the videos coming.

    Very informative video, the problem is how could you pull out the shroud when there is propeller that is on the way, mine is a 325ci 2003 convertible automatic. On your video it seems the propeller is attach to the shroud, it is one piece only.

    Wow, I literally just dropped the car off to the shop to get this done cus it was making a noise. You have the best video online on to how to change it. Every other person had some weird camera angle, and you were clear with how to change the stuff. I kinda regret dropping it off. I wanted to try to change this myself since I want to learn to do maintenance work in my 330ci bummmer.

      Really? even for someone that has never even changed a tire? The most diy I ever have done to a car was change the headlight bulb on a GTI. I want to buy the tools and take my car apart(as if I were doing this job) just to see if I could do it, and then put it together. Do you think that's a good idea?

    • @HansGarage
      @HansGarage  7 років тому +3

      I'd say just dive in and see how far you can go! haha I didnt know anything about working on a car 3 years ago. I just loved figuring out how everything works. Best way to learn is to actually try out and see what you are capable of! Cheers!

    So are the tensioner universal bmw do claim there parts are compatible with each over but ebay sellers say a 2001 IDLER pulley wont fit anthing with a hydraulic tensioner i give up by parts and pray

  • @willk3807
    @willk3807 5 років тому +2

    WARNING ⚠ Before you remove the upper pulley. Look behind the pulley where it mates up to the alternator. The backside of the pulley and the front side of the alternator have a special way of fitting together. You can't mess this up...if you do the pulley will not line up perfectly. Other than that great video

    I hear some noise around the belts and pulleys. But not sure what's causing it. If I remove the fan and shroud, I can see better. Even better if I can hear it. So, can I start the engine, with the fan and shroud removed? Thanks Hans.

    • @fjwong7337
      @fjwong7337 3 роки тому

      The question is really how does I know whether it's the pulley or the tensioner that's bad. If I can take the fan and the shroud off, and start the engine, I can better ascertain which part (tensioner and/or pulley) is bad. I didn't suspect the tensioner, before watching your video. Thanks so much Han.

      I wouldn't cause any problems per se. The small belt is the one that drives the ac compressor. You can drive your car without that belt no problem, the only thing you won't have is the ac. Cheers

I have an hydraulic one but the 8mm bolt is stripped, I am thinking how to replace it with a new 8mm bolt, any idea? It was already bad when I removed the belt but it worked barely. After removing the belt, I replaced the idler pulley and now I cannot put the new belt back because the 8mm bolt is bad. Thanks.
