Always liked the music from this movie. I think in the hands of Duran Duran, Tears For Fears or the like, this song would’ve been in a hit in the 80’s.
One of the most quotable films ever... so many classic lines. I can't believe that John Cusack has such hatred for this film and never answers any questions about it.
+digipimp75 He hated that after doing this movie he couldn't get any other kinds of roles; everyone wanted to see a sequel or a reprise of his performance in this movie. As it is he was in other teen comedies, "Sixteen Candles", "One Crazy Summer", "The Sure Thing'; Everyone kept comparing other movies to "Better Off Dead".. because they wanted more... and he wanted more serious roles. If you haven't seen it try "One Crazy Summer". It was an attempt to recapture the feel of "Better Off Dead". it was pretty funny.
+Lefty Hara Thing is, he had many roles that were very different from Lloyd in Better Off Dead, and more serious. SO many, and in films of note, like Say Anything, High Fidelity, Gross Pointe Blank, Being John Malkovich, The Grifters. So he was hardly typecast, and I don't get why he has to be such an ass about B.O.D. - which is a hilarious, clever, cult classic, beloved by millions.
You are SO RIGHT about that, WOW! CRAZY how many brilliant quotable lines in this movie, what a treasure. For the last 30 years, every time anyone orders corn at the restaurant, or serves it at dinner, I chuckle..."He likes corn...". Corn for Christmas, lol!!!
4 weeks twenty papers that's two dollars plus tip.....gee johnny I dont have a dime, my brother got his arm caught in the microwave and my grandma dropped acid and hijacked a schoolbus full of penguins so its kind of a family crisis, come back later? great!
I came for the better off dead comments and you did NOT disappoint me. Also... this song makes my skin tingle, and i'd love to hear it covered by Chvrches.
I had this cd but lost it. I need this soundtrack going skiing and need it in my ears so I can live the the 80's. Only good part of the 80's for me was this movie, skiing with ski club friends, and this soundtrack, and I did not have to work. Only part time dishwasher teen stuff and then you get fired and were happy about it! Where is my two dollars!!!! Wait I was making $2 an hour!
One speaks no English and the other learned to speak English by watching Wide World of Sports. Not tell me which is worse, speaking no English at all or speaking Howard Cosell?

@@martinansell3836 Wow Martin Ansell! Let me just say Mr. Ansell I'm a huge fan of your song *SHINE* it's literally my favorite song from the Better Off Dead soundtrack. It's truly a phenomenal track. Thank You for your hard work
Has anybody ever figured out why the big artists like Howard Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen don't appear on this soundtrack? It's really strange to have received clearance for use in the film, but not the corresponding soundtrack, since these songs are used to sell the whole package.
Here's a good example. Two brothers, one speaks no English, the other learned how to by watching the wide world of sports. So you tell me which is better speaking no English or speaking Howard Cosell

Better Off Dead one of the best comedies from the 80s with an awesome soundtrack!!!

Always liked the music from this movie. I think in the hands of Duran Duran, Tears For Fears or the like, this song would’ve been in a hit in the 80’s.
Definitely has a Duran Duran sound with a base guitar like that. Reminds me of Rio
It sure sounds like both groups. The chorus sounds a lot like Duran Duran.
I spent a good chunk of my life convinced this was Duran Duran 😅🤙🏻
I actually thought it was Duran Duran when I first saw the movie.
I loved Badger...and the book he bought, "How to pick up trashy women." Classic!
It's a good book!
You can hear the production value that went into Howard Jones albums. That chorus, though, it's so Duran Duran, Rupert was a genius.
Finally bought this movie and I forgot how great the music was in this. Love this and one crazy summer… John’s best!
I thought for sure this was Duran Duran when I saw this way back then. Still a great movie today!! And dammit this song was catchy too!!
This song goes perfect with the skiing of Lane and Monique. “Language Lessons, Inspiring words from a man that knows how to ski”
Loved this one when I first heard it in the movie in the skiing scene. Love it still

Definitely slower than the movie version. I've tried playing it quicker and it still doesn't sound like the movie version.
