  • Zhong Shanshan became the richest person in Asia in January of 2021 with a peak net worth of a whopping $95 billion. Most of his wealth is from his water bottle company called Nongfu Spring which is extremely popular within China. However, just one year ago, Shanshan only had a net worth of $2 billion meaning that Shanshan made the vast majority of his wealth over the past year. Nongfu Spring did IPO within the last 12 months giving the stock some added hype, but Nongfu Spring is just a water bottle company at the end of the day, not Tesla or Apple. This brings up the question as to how Zhong Shanshan made his money. Though Nongfu Spring no doubt has a large amount of intrinsic value, it does seem like there is more affecting the company's stock price behind the scenes. This video explains the origins of Nongfu Spring and how Zhong Shanshan was able to grow the company into one of the most popular water bottle companies in China.

Being a billionaire in China is a fickle thing. You can see billionaires rising and falling meteroically all the time. It seems as though the main condition of finding wealth in China is playing ball with the CCP.

@@LogicallyAnswered Sorry but i can't agree with you. I understand that you don't have neither background in politics nor finance/economics. There are currently 698 Chinese billionaires compared to 724 billionaires in the US. China and the US each share around 20 of the worlds top 100 banks and makes india which has 2 look like a baby. Any research report from Deloitte, KPMG, McKinsey, MS, JPM, BX, BR etc would tell you why China is excelling in areas which the uneducated don't know about. Investments in green technology and carbon reduction are something the mainstream media doesn't about.

That was good storytelling. I started out selling lemonade - 5 cents a glass. By the time I was 8 the bottom had dropped out of the global lemon market and I was floundering. My father bought me out by reinstating my allowance. Well, the rest is history. My net worth? I can confidently say it’s less than $95 B.

Great video as usual! Here's an absurdly abridged, simplified version of why Americans may continue to buy bottled water:
    1) Lead contamination is found in almost 2,000 water systems across all 50 states, and most likely in US territories. Flint, Mic is a prime example.
    2) There is a severe disparity in the sewage system for communities of color, like Cahokia Heights, Ill, where literal shit is backed up into their faucets. This was in 2021.
    3) This is more speculation: if immigrated from a country where drinking water from the faucet could be deadly, you're more likely to continue purchasing bottled water as it was a habit.
With the distrust in our water system and fear of catching a deadly pathogen, it stands to reason why we buy bottled water.

The stock only rose 80-100% from 40$ to 70-80$ if Shanshan only have 2 Billion and lets say all of them is in stock his wealth will only increase from 2 to 4 or 5 billion and later fall back to 2 billion.
From this observation it just seems that CCP just literally gave Shanshan 90 ishBillions (in stock or in cash) which is quite bizzare for CCP, because that amount is very high even for them.

I should've clarified this in the video. Nongfu Spring was a private company till September of 2020. So, Zhong's initial surge in wealth from $2 billion to $50 billion can be explained by public investors valuing the company at a much higher PE ratio than private investors. Who knows though, maybe the CCP was the public investors haha!
