Coach brilliant blog and yes did not realise I was hitting the bag all wrong. Just brilliant. I'm not on my own here, and I know you have done about breathing, but I was wondering if you could go into more detail.... you the best coach on UA-cam when you explain as its not natural for some but your a great teacher ty
Thank you Darren! It's alright, we all go through the mistakes and it's part of the process 👌🏽. Will you elaborate on what exactly you're having trouble with in regard to breathine?
@coachpillowfists I think I'm holding my breath. I think in breathing out, I'm concentrating on the new combo and not breathing in after out, lol. Hopefully, all that makes sense keep safe all
I’d take it slow when shadowboxing/hitting the bag, and try to link the exhale with the punches. Idk if you’re “shhh”ing or shouting when you punch, but if you’re not, I’d highly suggest doing so because it helps you a ton. When we’re just normal exhaling, it’s hard to distinguish it specifically with our punches versus normal breathing. After you take it slow in shadowboxing/bagwork, try short 3-4 punch bursts with all one exhale. Just “shhhhh!” on one series of 3-4 punches then repeat again and again. Hope that helps! A lot of the time we’re so focused on too many different aspects of shadowboxing and bagwork that it’s hard to isolate what we’re specifically needing to work on, so the point here is to focus in only on that one thing which is breathing. Don’t worry about power, don’t worry about speed, just focus on the inhale. And make sure to nose breathe when you’re not punching.
Thank you brotha! 😄 Yeah you southpaws have many advantages! Let us orthodoxes at least have this one over y'all! 🤣 But I get you. Once you master the lead hook, you find that it's so much better than the rear!
When discussing shot placement like this, I think it’s paramount to talk about positioning/angle relative to opp and the footwork required to achieve those angles. You mention such on the last example, but what about the rest of em? The window behind the elbow for the liver shot is often pretty far especially without thoughtful footwork
This video is meant to bring to attention that you need to imagine an opponent's elbow being there on the bag in a 2-3 minute video format. There's a different lesson to be learned in every video, especially if it's this short of a video. If someone wants to learn more on footwork, I have plenty of other videos on that specific topic. I could very well point out footwork and all this other stuff, but then I'm going to have a 10-15 minute video with too many different topics. That's not my style. There's other coaches on UA-cam however, that do 10-20 minute videos, and that's cool for them.
I’ll make sure to remember this for the future. I always found it next to impossible to actually land the liver shot in sparring so I would opt for the much easier straight punches to the solar plexus/abdomen region when throwing body shots. But this’ll up my game.
Thanks again for the vid coach, quick question, when shifting to the left would you recommend the more wide rear hook or the more bladed shovel hook type of punch you threw on the bag? Thanks again
Of course! There’s no right answer to that. In a fight/spar, you’ll adjust your hook however far your opponent is at the time. Sometimes the opponent might be farther out due to their height/reach. Sometimes your angle might’ve needed to be shifted shorter or wider. Maybe they moved slightly as you turned the corner. You have to make last millisecond adjustments to your hook accordingly. Practice both ways.
Coach Chris just upped the training room decor. It makes me want to go Jimmy "Super Fly" Snuka off the top of the cage...but then in the next segment, Coach would be whipping my ass for destroying $100 of PVC pipe. PVC ain't cheap, y'all!!!
Thank you! Is it due to injury? Oftentimes especially if you’re a beginner, you might be irritating certain body parts because you’re putting too much power and not the right form. I’d suggest going light in training so you can focus purely on your technique. Power ruins everything if your technique is not all there.
Coach, I have seen tony Jefferies do some footage reviewing for people who tagged him, Any thoughts on doing boxing footage reviews of your subcribers or something like that?
Thank you! I fought in the amateurs but not in the pros. I've got some amateur boxing footage in some of my videos or shorts as examples, can't remember which ones. And I've also got some very old fight highlights from before my amateur days if you search "TKB Alaska Boxing".
Great advice! Love the setup (and effective noise reduction!)
I appreciate the great feedback! 👌🏽
Coach got crazy power + hella dope basement!
Thank you bro! 😄 Trying to spice up the recording space 👊🏽
LOVE THE SETUP!!!
I’m glad you do, bro! Trying to make things spicy 🌶️ 🔥 💁🏽♂️

Gym looking awesome, coach! Thank for the reminders. I wish the liver was on the other side! My right hook is infinitely better lol.

I wish it wasn't. (I am a southpaw)

💯%! It all starts with the little adjustments we make in shadowboxing/bagwork which then will gradually adjust our sparring game.
heat 🔥 🔥

Great vid Coach. Beginner boxer here, how do I deal with nagging rotator cuff pain

How heavy is that bag coach? I tried find something like it but couldn't. Finally settled on a bit narrower but longer heavy bag of 100lbs
It's a 100 lb heavy bag from nazoboxing.com/.
you have a nasty upper cut like hook there. What do you call it again?
Thank you! 🙏🏽 I believe the specific name for it is the "shovel hook".

@@coachpillowfists okay!!
You gotta go abit lower on that placement you hitting shoulder
So you set up your jab, then they raise their guard and you catch them after you train them. Of course you gotta survive first.
