Natasha from treasure books uses the paint brush to push the edges in like you did when you had a tear she does it all the way around and when it dries it gives you something to grab to remove the paper.
I'm kind of astounded at how many people use coffee and acidic glues in their artwork. I really hate to see people's beautiful work ruined by acid or mold. People work so hard on their beautiful art journals. Some of them are stunning. It's just best to use PVA neutral glue instead of other glues. You can make your own home made Modge Podge by getting a PVA neutral glue and watering it down. Acidic glues like Elmer's will turn dark brown in a few years. I use PVA neutral non acidic glue because it will stay clear forever and won't oxidize. As for food, coffee can mold. Never, ever use a food product in your artwork or you can get mold into all your supplies. Then they will have to be thrown out and replaced or you will never get rid of the mold in your artwork. The only people I know who understand this have learned it in art school or university. I wish so much that there was more knowledge about acidic glues and food products molding artwork and art supplies. There needs to be a channel dedicated to nothing by art supplies and how to use them.
Thank you Tweety 💙 Can we just use Modge Podge or PVA based glue and Fogo the coffee or tea bags over my one ply napkin? The napkin already has structure, I don't know why I'd put tea bags over the top as I've seen on other channels 🤔 I appreciate the time you took to educate about our supplies 😊
You can add a little baking soda to any solution to increase the pH ( lower pH = more acid). If concerned, you can purchase inexpensive pH strips to get a rough idea of pH. Once a coffee solution is dry, it would be unlikely to mold. Any paper can mold under the right conditions. The amount of moisture that it takes to grow mold depends on the fungus. Musty smelling paper materials can be placed in a plastic bag with baking soda to help dry them out and remove the odor. Once they develop an actual mold, they will be stained and difficult to recover. Hope this helps.
Oh my gosh! I here I am, always thinking about how NOT to make any wrinkles! Thank you SO much for the opposite view with huge potential in it. Loved it through and through.
I’ve been seeing these pages in your journals and wondered how you made them. I’m speaking of the plain pages. They remind me of the clear paper over artwork in antique books. Thanks for sharing!
I don't know what it is about that crinkle sound, but I just absolutely love that. Nice video, and I absolutely loved the envelope that you sewed. I will be making some of those with mine, as well. Thank you.😊
Thank you so much for this turorial. I am so excited to try this method:) You are so kind to take your time to show us your way to create this awesome effect. I am loving your channel and so happy to have found you!!
Sharon, I just LOVED this project! TFS. It sort of reminds me of stained glass, yet, I love all the wrinkles and imperfections! I'm also a transparency freak, so I can see using this over some thin old pictures as well! Thanks again, soooo cool!
Yes, I remember her doing this a while back, good friend of mine. She bought a farm and is busy all that is busy with all things farm! She is very talented! I had forgotten about this technique. Thanks!
What a great technique. I’ve been collecting napkins for collage for awhile now, and I can’t wait to make a bunch of faux rice papers with them! Thank you
Oh - this is a wonderful idea. I just found your channel and am so glad that I came across this video. I appreciate that you waited until the next day to peel off the napkin from the freezer paper - I wouldn’t have known to use a blade to separate the layers. Adding the coffee is another idea I wouldn’t have thought of doing. Great video - well paced and well explained. Thanks for sharing this.
GREAT job Sharon! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE what you have done!!! I can't wait to try your technique with this! I too love the "crinkly" noise of the paper! I am a new "subdue." TYSMFS!
Very cool, love that idea. Furniture Artists or Flippers use ready-made rice papers to decoupage on furniture. The problem is they all have that same rice paper. And I'm sure it's not cheap.
Great video full of information thank you very much for sharing. Idea to try. I have used glycerine, it is liquid in a bottle, mostly got from the chemist. You use no glue, just get some glycerine and a bit cotton wool and wipe it all over the napkin. It sends it a lovely texture and practically see-through. Just takes a little bit of patience to put on so not to rip the napkin and time for it to dry. Results are lovely.
Love this. Glad I saw the end. I didn't know you peel it off the freezer paper. I'm going to try this with wax paper. New subbie. I love how You explain things. Thank you.
Do you notice (a difference) in whether the GLUE napkin surface feels "sticky" (Mod Podge always seems to be). Have you tried rolling the napkin, place down top and unrolling as the rest is laid down? As a suggestion - keep cereal bags, cut open to use as the gluing surface. Inexpensive, reusable, and were going to throw away (no extra products to buy). Great video -- thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much Mary! Several people have asked me about stickiness. I have not had a problem with these sheets sticking in my journals. It might be because the napkin surface is not as smooth as regular paper. I think using cereal bags as the gluing surface is a fantastic idea. I saw that Natasa from Treasure Books used them in her video and I thought that was a great idea. Thanks for your comments! 💕
Let me make a suggestion which may or may not work in this technique. I've tried it in similar cases and it works like a charm. Instead of peeling the napkin away from the freezer paper, try peeling the paper away from the napkin. Turn it all upside down and use your craft knife against the freezer paper and release it from the napkin. It may sound as if it's the same either way but it really isn't. The chances of tears in the separation are more likely depending on which paper you are peeling.
I have so many napkins that I use in different ways, but this is new to me. I'm hoping that somehow I can work it into my card making craft 😂. I like the idea about tinting the glue as well, though I would probably use reinkers instead of my precious coffee 😁🤣
Thank you so much for the share. I knew this technic but I gave up because the napkins stuck on the surface...but you said..Freezer paper....I ll try to find it..I love to work with napkins...and very good idea to put à bit of coffee.. forgive my englih language, Im french and à New subscriber. I think Ill fo through all your vidéos, you explain very well 🥰🥰🥰
So happy to have you as a new subscriber! Yes, it is tricky with the glue sticking. I think any kind of paper that has a waxy surface on one side would work. 👍😊
I'm sure I could use your technique to make faux holiday dried orange slices for garlands! The real dried oranges don't stay dry, but rather begin molding before Spring, here in the Pacific Northwest. The baker's clay salt dough ornaments also succumb to moisture and just fall apart. I hope the glue doesn't get tacky from the moisture in the air here. I'll give it a go.
I'm a new subscriber because of this video, LOL, and I plan on exploring your other videos, and I've set my notifications bell to know when you post anything new. Than you.
Hi. Very nice tutorial n outcome.. I saw another similar technique where you go around the edges when the glue is still wet n gently push slightly n when it's dry it just lifts up easy..
Natasha from treasure books uses the paint brush to push the edges in like you did when you had a tear she does it all the way around and when it dries it gives you something to grab to remove the paper.
Yes, that works too! I do that sometimes when I have a particularly thin piece. Thanks! 💙

They have used different foods for paints and dyes that go back over a centuries. There are ways to preserve.
I would use drops of dye or something not coffee

That sounds really nice. I never thought of using glycerin as a medium for art. Don't add nitro to it. :-)
I love that. I think I would sprinkle a bit of spices or petals on them
Oooh, that's a great idea. I think someone else mentioned adding seeds. 👍
I've been watching different videos and they use plastic under the paper and it doesn't sick. Maybe try that. Thanks have a great day. 😊
