Yea, I can see your point, thanks for sharing. I had a platoon sergeant when I was in the American Rangers. He was a Rhodesian vet. One day we were doing our open area rehearsals and our Platoon Leader asked him "Hey Sergeant, when is the best time to move ...' And he replied to this young officer ..."Sir, I'll tell you when I move ..." and he pointed to whole platoon in as they deployed on line ..."when all these little bastards are shooting. Saw this on TV years ago & the Interview with Chris Keeble but didn't even know his name at the time. (It was even before we had the Internet.) Prayed to God that I would see it again at some time in my life. Here it is decades later. I too was massively impressed and moved by Chris Keeble and Sgt Norman in the original broadcast. Even looking back on it now it is a tremendous interview that send shivers up the spine. Just amazing men.
Reading between the lines here one can see that Lt Col. Chris Keeble was by far the more intelligent and Battle-coherant commisioned officer of the two, a bloody good job that he was there to take over.
Lt Col Chris Keeble was an exemplary, humane, ethical military leader. He and his men of 2 PARA on Goose Green were incredibly courageous and brave. Lt Col Keeble's story is a remarkable one. He and his men put their lives on the line for the very important principle of freedom and liberty, that the people of the Falklands desired then and as they do now. Col Hugh Jones did not die in vain. We will never forget your efforts, Lest We Forget
Britain does not impose rule upon the peoples of the Falklands and Gibraltar, they choose to remain linked to the UK. If at any time they expressed a wish to become independent of the UK, then independent they would become. Of course their independence does not guarantee that they will fall in to the hands of other countries who claim dominion over them.

Hans, I think H Jones had little patience and during the advance took his chance of life or death , a 50/50 chance which took his life . As in so many throughout wars he LOST but in the heat of war sometimes your thoughts are of going home and getting the job done are paramount. He did what he thought was right and rightly won the VC . Bravery is something you do when when you're " Not quite sure of the outcome " . Some win , some lose ! He lost and paid heavily .... you'll probably find ,with research, that most bravery awards were earned by not stupidity but a yearning to get the job done and get home .

Col H does not come out as heroic. He was a micromanager, a poor tactician, showed few of the hallmarks of a good leader. Charisma? He ignored all initiative and input by lower commanders. Having to see everything for himself, make every decision (pride?) led to the attack stalling. Two companies were not used.

He had twice refused Major Neame with D company the opportunity to outflank the main Argentine position along the beach and take Boca House and neglected to bring forward C the patrol company with some of the most experienced men in the battalion. His suicidal attack was exasperation at the stalemate and was pointless. The battle was eventually won by Neames outflanking movement on Boca House and C company's devastating attack on the schoolhouse which knocked the fight out of the Argentines and Major Keebles bluff to bomdard Goose Green. Jones should have let his subordinates fight the battle and directed their efforts in support of each other with the intelligence they provided him not get himself killed charging a trench.
You never lose control over a battle, because you never had it in the first place. You can read all about it, but NOTHING can prepare you for the chaos. All battleplans go out the window when the first shot is fired and after that you improvise. Ask any soldier that has been in battle and they will say the same.
Were you there? By his side? Seeing what he was? At the end of the day, you probably weren’t. And that was colonel H Jones of the Parachute Regiment 2nd Battalion. An officer of the Parachute Regiment. Even if you’re a PARA, even if you’re a CO, I don’t think you’re in a position to armchair historian this shit. He was a PARA. So I wouldn’t question his judgement if I were you. He gave his life for the battle regardless, whether it was in your opinion pointless or not.

He was too far forward to have a grasp of the overall tactical situation and was trying to micro manage the battle. Commanding officers since the advent of electronic and digital communications haven’t had to lead from the front their job is to assimilate the intel presented to them and direct their subordinates.

A unit commander SHOULD NEVER LEAD FROM The FRONT. Its that simple. By doing so you present the possibility of throwing the entire unit into chaos by the lack of command and control. The fact remains in this case stellar leadership in the chain of command overrode this condition. The fact again however is...the attack was delayed, and refocused as a result of this incident.

USA supplied technological surveillance information - very important and most useful, but USA did not supply any fuel, ammunition, supplies of any nature, or any logistics.

As a commander, you can either sit back and base your decisions on intelligence coming back to you that may not be very reliable. Or you can get to the front and see whats going on. A commander is no use at the back

i was there, i had tobayonet an enemy in a ditch after 2 had survived my grenade. the weight of the ist enemy soldier on my bayonet pulled his weight towards me nearly knocking me over, it saved my life, the 2nd enemy shot at me hitting the guy i had bayoneted, giving me time to release my bayonet and lunge my bayonet into him. the argies fought well, respect,, we were just better trained.
Told me a similar story of his Major doing a similar act as Jones, got himself killed, quickly, jeopardised the lives of everyone else, stuffed the objective...but was awarded a MC for it....my dad, the csm had to take over because the only other officer present was frozen.....

+Yerabasan H's death didn't cause chaos. It provided a catalyst to the Argentine surrender. As a commander, you can either sit back and base your decisions on intelligence coming back to you that may not be very reliable. Or you can get to the front and see whats going on. A commander is no use at the back

i was there, i had tobayonet an enemy in a ditch after 2 had survived my grenade. the weight of the ist enemy soldier on my bayonet pulled his weight towards me nearly knocking me over, it saved my life, the 2nd enemy shot at me hitting the guy i had bayoneted, giving me time to release my bayonet and lunge my bayonet into him. the argies fought well, respect,, we were just better trained.

Keeble looks like Anton DuBeke.
Told me a similar story of his Major doing a similar act as Jones, got himself killed, quickly, jeopardised the lives of everyone else, stuffed the objective...but was awarded a MC for it....my dad, the csm had to take over because the only other officer present was frozen.....
