My problem is that I legitimately go to UA-cam to do research for my job, but once I hit the front page I completely forget why I went there in the first place and end up watching an hour of UA-cam. Then I'll tab back over to what I was working on before, remember that I needed to look something up on UA-cam, go back to the front page, rinse and repeat.
If I may make a recommendation for your shower one: It works, but I have found a better way. Use the humidity sensor to set up a derivative helper. That helper tells you how fast or how slowly the humidity is rising/falling. When it rises above x% per minute, turn on (turns on way quicker that waiting for set percentage, and if its just a humid day it won't accidentally trigger), and then turn it off when the derivative helper has been between -1 and 1 for 5 minutes so that when the humidity has stabilized it turns off. I've found it to be better personally.
I used to use that previously but it was way worse and didn't trigger a lot of the time...probably needed a bit more tuning but I found that this works every time for me
@@EverythingSmartHome I don't think there is going to be one solution for everyone for this type of automation. I've tried both but not will depend on a few things. Your base humidity level and where the humidity sensor is located and how close to the humidity source the sensor is. Where I live the humidity level in the winter is as low as single digits outside (I keep the house around 30-40). When the shower was running this morning the humidity level increased from 40 to 60%. In the summer, this base level is in the 50s and increases 20-30% so the fixed setpoint would never work for me. I found the derivative helper to be the only thing to work reliably throughout the year. It's tricky to get the parameters to set correctly so if you have a climate that doesn't change as much, try the fix setpoint first. Another thought is to put the sensor in the ceiling that way all the humid air that rises will hit the sensor. I think that could be a reliable solution regardless of climate.
Instead of using some fixed numbers to trigger the fan you can use the delta between bathroom humidity and average humidity in the rest of the house. It will be more reliable, and won't turn on the fan every time you have a tropical rain outside 🙂
My favorite automation is definitely my music button. One press and it plays music depending on the time of day. If it is late it would play a loft mix, and earlier in the day it would play something more upbeat. Finally when I press the button on Friday it plays my happy mix and sets my lights to a fun effect.
One of the cool things I've started doing with the local calendar is automating my 'Guest Mode'. I've got a bunch of automations that I don't want to run or wnat to run differently if we've got people staying over. I've got an input toggle helper that lets me turn guest mode on and off which is used as a condition in the automations. Originally, I was manually just triggering this when we had guests, but with the local calendar, I now just create an event for the duration we'll have people staying. Then an automation that flips the helper when the event starts and turns it off when they leave.

For those that use home assistant as your alarm you can have the vacuum automation ignore motion sensors. That way alarm is still armed and only door sensor will trip.
I've slowly been making my way through your video's randomly it seems. I have to say they are great. I have a couple of automations you might find interesting. the first similar to your shower uses a zooz temperature/humidity/light/motion sensor to determine when the exhaust fan should be turned on. Right now, I simply compare it's humidity against a similar sensor in the bedroom to determine if the humidity is over 10 % higher. if it is, it turns on the exhaust fan and turns it back off if it's within 5% of the sensor in the bedroom. That way it takes into account the wild swings in humidity we get around here by comparing it against a baseline that should be similar to the humidity for the rest of the house. I also have the same sensors in each room, controlling ceiling fans. I setup helper slider controls for each room that act as a type of thermostat. When the temperature sensor reports it being warmer than the high slider, it turns on the ceiling fan. When it's below the low slider, it turns off the ceiling fan. This way it's customizable for each room of the house. I need to build a custom card around this but I haven't gotten to it yet. I just cut and paste the yaml. The next and I have to say one of my favorites, is when the light has been turned on in the toilet for over 5 minutes, the exhaust fan it turned on ( because if you have been in there over 5 minutes, you are making a stink and need the fan). Then 5 minutes after the light has been turned out, the fan is turned off. Hopefully by then the stink has dissipated. Finally I run a home based mobile business. Our supplies are stored at my house and from time to time if we have to bring work home we use my garage as a shop. I really don't need to have the security cameras in my garage recording my employees working all day, chewing up my disk space. I see anything of value they take out of the shop on my outdoor cameras. So espresense detects their keyfob, it turns off the recordings in the garage but leaves them on everywhere else. When they don't register for over a couple of minutes, then the recordings start back up. Right now I do all of these automations through appdaemon. My past life was as a programmer so this was easier to pickup than yaml and when I started NodeRed didn't exist. I can see the attraction of NodeRed, it reminds me of PLC ladder logic. Thanks again for all the videos. You have given me several new ideas to spend money on. LOL
A useful automation that paid off this winter it was my smart thermostat. I have retrofitted my old thermostat using a shelly 1 relay so I can trigger the hot water valve on and off since I have radiators and there is a central heating system for all the apartments in my building. Then I used the smart PID integration found in HACS to control the temperature with a 0.1°C accuracy. Then with the help of an automation I set the temperature accordingly. 18°C when no one is at home, 19 for sleeping, 20.5 constant during the day when we are at home. My bill went up to 1/3 of that of the previous year and also had the smaller amount of hot water used in the entire building
Good find on the Presence Simulation Lewis! I was doing something far less sophisticated with my automation schedules and random offsets in Node-RED,, but I like this approach better and will give it a try. Installing via HACS as I type.
My wife has a odd work schedule, starting between 5:30 and 7am on varying days. I use the next alarm sensor from her phone to start the heating an hour before she has to get up. On a side note, my last active sensor from the PC via HASS.Agent never goes above a few seconds, even when the screensaver is running, I'd love to hear some ideas on how to fix that!

Nice! Almost have a version of my own on all the 6 automations but will tweak a few with your twist. The presence simulation I also trigger when I turn the vacation alarm on. I use s lot of actionable notification on the phone. Usually they also is to turn of a started automation. One I have is that I set an event on Google calendar that starts my heater in the car everyday if the temperature is below 4 degree then I can turn that off if I'm not going to work.
Never bothered with time or exit for the bathroom one, if the humidity is still above 65% it won't hurt to leave it running forever, a bit of airflow will help limit mold. A fan only uses a few watts usually so even if it ran through the night it shouldn't make a real difference to the electric bill. I also let it trigger regardless of the shower, again if humidity is high, regardless of reason, a bit of airflow won't hurt
That battery blueprint is awesome! Been looking for a way to do that for a while. Only thing is, when I test run, it seems to notify even if there are no low batteries - will this occur every day?
One thing I wonder about the 'precense simulator' is turning on lights when the curtains/blinds are open, I have a similar custom rolled automation where I turn on/off things like hallway lights at random intervals but leave out anything that faces the street. I suppose the solution to that would be to buy a curtain driver but...money :D

I'd like to do the humidity sensor but have some issues to solve. First, the switch is in a double gang dual switches (so 2x2). And I will want manual control for when you are in there for *other* reasons. So replacing the switch will be a challenge. I could add a shelly into the fan, but then I'd need to leave the switch on which requires retraining.
@@uSlackr Is there an outlet or any other source from where you can get a continuous power line (L on the Shelly) near of the fan? Another solution would be to increase the space behind the light switch with hammer and chisel. I also did that on some of my switches, works like a charm.
I got mine a few weeks ago, I've not set it up yet, as I can't get a resonantly priced Pi 4 CM for love nor money. Seemingly they are going to be available in Q3 or Q4. So I'll probably be setting it up when you get yours.

Tempted to replace them with dumb ones but smart controller. Definitely going to implement the battery monitor phone notification as I have quite a few Switchbot devices. I wanted to do the humidity sensor one, but for some reason the aqara temperature and humidity sensors I have don't play nicely with my zigbee network. I think it's because there is something they don't like about being routed through the sonoff zbminis I have. Or maybe it's my sonoff zigbee usb 3.0 adapter MAYBE a simple firmware update would fix everything, but I'd rather not risk killing my whole zigbee network on a firmware upgrade....

Great ideas. But . . . how often does that Deebot vacuum get stuck? I have had 2 of them, the same model as yours, and my house is not cluttered, but the robot gets stuck in the stupidest places. For example, it rams into the fireplace hearth in broad daylight and no matter how many times I move it, it goes right back and continues ramming. The percentage of times it completes a run without my intervention is very low. And it loves to re-arrange lightweight furniture. It's a persistent and powerful little bugger when it goes into blind ramming mode - which is often.
I have a X1 Omni i got a month ago and have no isues like this, I've had 2 other deebots. I sell to family and upgrade from time to time. Interesting it chooses to ram into something, mine barely touches the bumper at all like the previous ones without a front camera. Those would give little taps to verify objects then move on. If i were in your scenario, I'd put a no-go zone right around that area as tight as you can get it where it gets right next to it but doesn't touch. I did that around my fridge with my old 920. My uneven floors meant it could just barely go under the fridge from one side, but was wedged by the time it went half way across. I also hate watching it hang over stairs so I use a similar solution there.
@@karlleroux As I said, I've had 2 and they've both done the same thing. Seems a bit ridiculous to have to put a no-go zone around a solid fireplace hearth or coffee table. I also have a Roborock and it has no problem completing a job and not getting stuck.
Note about 3rd automation 1) It does not send room names, and naming sensors with room name in it just clutters the UI 2) If sensor actually dies, battery percentage shows as unavailable rather then a number, and this blueprint just ignores it (and as you know sensors can die with battery well above 10%) Better to do it from custom templates to include what I said here also
Naming sensors with the room name in it does not clutter the UI, naming sensors with the room in it makes 100% sense. You can add custom names for any sensors in the UI without changing the name of it directly, hence does not clutter the UI and makes keeping track and organization way easier
@@EverythingSmartHome What's the point of naming sensors with room in it, if you will link it to the room anyway? And yes you can name anything in UI different, but also you can create UI in such way that every new device will take it's place automatically :)
Because there are other places you will reference sensors and entities outside of the main dashboard. Creating a template for example with autocomplete is way easier to use with room names and has zero drawbacks. What are you going to name them, sensor.motion_1, sensor.motion_2, sensor.motion_3 etc? Sounds like a terrible idea :) You can yes, but that leads to a very messy, cluttered and overpopulated dashboard. Would not recommend. :)
@@EverythingSmartHome why motion_1 motion_2? Name them as you like, just use auto-entitities to place all occupancy sensors from needed room into room page to other sensors. Then in template you check all sensors with battery and send a notification with sensor name + room name
With the latest delay of HA's Yellow controller (now end of August for us Aug '22 buyers), what kind of min-PC (like an Intel NUC) would you recommend to host HA? Or would you recommend something else? I've got a nice new house with a bunch of smart devices installed but also a bunch of individual product-specific apps to control them. I was hoping to use HA to bring them all together, but with Yellow out of the picture for the near term, I need something I can install sooner.

They continue to sell stuff up until they announce that it won't really ship as advertised - last week I could buy one that would ship on 3/31. Yesterday they announced that 8/31 was the new date for all of us that ordered last year. No date for the folks who bought two days ago expecting 6 weeks delivery. I understand delays but they had to know before yesterday that my 1/3 ship that turned into 3/3 ship in Feb wasn't going to happen (considering they must not have had any in hand if they now expect them at the end of August). But they were still advertising 3/31 ships for new orders. Oh well, blame it on the supply chain seems to be the latest version of "it's in the mail". 🤷♂Unfortunately, they charged my card 6 months ago so no recourse via a chargeback; can only hope that August doesn't turn into never. Onward to your other video's options 🙂
Well even though the chances of that are very small (area dependant of course) then you could always switch the mode to only alert on door or contact sensor trips and certain motion sensors if you were really worried about it 😅
Love the vacuum automation! Am also running a similar setup and it's working brilliant. I am running it a little more complicated with each room separate, stopping when someone gets home and next time starting in the room not vaccumed the longest. There are so much possibilities :D
Hey, question for you. How did you go about only doing specific rooms? I've been trying to get this functionality. I can tell my X1 Omni to do a full clean, but i can't figure out how to send it a command to do a room or group of rooms. I found the room numbers using node red debug, but can't figure out whack service to call or the accompaniying json data to specify. I'd love some help if you could point me towards a guide or give the the quick rundown would be much appreciated.
sounds overengineered like in the vid, unless you are using the whole house all the time during the day, people that do home office usually are in one room for some hours so you can set the vacuum then, and for the room where you work in the evening or smth like that. My gf and I do that, every day same time schedule, i dont think it really needs more tweaking than that. Granted if you have an alarm then it makes sense to make them interact.
Yes it it probably hardly over engineered. I am using a Roborock S5 MaxV. There you have functions for a specific room to be cleaned. By adding a few helpers, a group and some Jinja2 magic it works. Tried to bring it into a blueprint, but it's kinda hard to create them, I think.

Since Covid I work from home, so having a schedule or automation to have my Deebot vacuum when I'm not home became pretty useless. I set up a NodeRed automation to check the time that my alarm is set for in the morning since my schedule varies (Android HA App). Fifteen minutes before my alarm goes off several things happen, including the vacuum cleaning my office, bathroom, and kitchen. It is timed just perfectly so that it is out of the bathroom by the time I've snoozed a couple times and want to shower. A second automation has the vacuum head to my bedroom the first time that I use my computer after my shower (HASS.Agent). A microphone in a 3d printed enclosure pressed up against the pex pipe in the wall that goes to my showerhead "hears" when I have showered so the vacuum isn't triggered if I happen to check email, etc. before my shower. When I do leave the house, the vac is kicked off to clean the whole house.

For my extractor fan, I have it compare the humidity in the neighbouring room and turn the fan off 20mins after it has reached the same humidity

You can add a Shelly behind the 2x2 switch. You don't always have to leave the switch on.

Another solution would be to increase the space behind the light switch with hammer and chisel. I also did that on some of my switches, works like a charm.

Do i need multiple HA on a raspberry pi with a zigbee dongle for other zigbee devices where my main raspberry cant reach?
I wanted to do the humidity sensor one, but for some reason the aqara temperature and humidity sensors I have don't play nicely with my zigbee network. I think it's because there is something they don't like about being routed through the sonoff zbminis I have. Or maybe it's my sonoff zigbee usb 3.0 adapter MAYBE a simple firmware update would fix everything, but I'd rather not risk killing my whole zigbee network on a firmware upgrade....

Home Assistant has built in geofencing, out the box it does home and away status.
To the AdGuard one, how are you dealing with the fact that your computer has already cached the DNS lookup for UA-cam?
TTL is pretty short it seems and expires pretty quickly, usually by the time a video is done

Great ideas. But . . . how often does that Deebot vacuum get stuck? I have had 2 of them, the same model as yours, and my house is not cluttered, but the robot gets stuck in the stupidest places. For example, it rams into the fireplace hearth in broad daylight and no matter how many times I move it, it goes right back and continues ramming. The percentage of times it completes a run without my intervention is very low. And it loves to re-arrange lightweight furniture. It's a persistent and powerful little bugger when it goes into blind ramming mode - which is often.
I have a X1 Omni i got a month ago and have no isues like this, I've had 2 other deebots. I sell to family and upgrade from time to time. Interesting it chooses to ram into something, mine barely touches the bumper at all like the previous ones without a front camera. Those would give little taps to verify objects then move on. If i were in your scenario, I'd put a no-go zone right around that area as tight as you can get it where it gets right next to it but doesn't touch. I did that around my fridge with my old 920. My uneven floors meant it could just barely go under the fridge from one side, but was wedged by the time it went half way across. I also hate watching it hang over stairs so I use a similar solution there.
@@karlleroux As I said, I've had 2 and they've both done the same thing. Seems a bit ridiculous to have to put a no-go zone around a solid fireplace hearth or coffee table. I also have a Roborock and it has no problem completing a job and not getting stuck.

Note about 3rd automation
1) It does not send room names, and naming sensors with room name in it just clutters the UI
2) If sensor actually dies, battery percentage shows as unavailable rather then a number, and this blueprint just ignores it (and as you know sensors can die with battery well above 10%)
Better to do it from custom templates to include what I said here also

You can add custom names for any sensors in the UI without changing the name of it directly, hence does not clutter the UI and makes keeping track and organization way easier
@@EverythingSmartHome What's the point of naming sensors with room in it, if you will link it to the room anyway? And yes you can name anything in UI different, but also you can create UI in such way that every new device will take it's place automatically :)
Because there are other places you will reference sensors and entities outside of the main dashboard. Creating a template for example with autocomplete is way easier to use with room names and has zero drawbacks. What are you going to name them, sensor.motion_1, sensor.motion_2, sensor.motion_3 etc? Sounds like a terrible idea :)
You can yes, but that leads to a very messy, cluttered and overpopulated dashboard. Would not recommend. :)
@@EverythingSmartHome why motion_1 motion_2? Name them as you like, just use auto-entitities to place all occupancy sensors from needed room into room page to other sensors. Then in template you check all sensors with battery and send a notification with sensor name + room name

With the latest delay of HA's Yellow controller (now end of August for us Aug '22 buyers), what kind of min-PC (like an Intel NUC) would you recommend to host HA? Or would you recommend something else? I've got a nice new house with a bunch of smart devices installed but also a bunch of individual product-specific apps to control them. I was hoping to use HA to bring them all together, but with Yellow out of the picture for the near term, I need something I can install sooner.

A little disappointed in Nabu/HA. They continue to sell stuff up until they announce that it won't really ship as advertised - last week I could buy one that would ship on 3/31. Yesterday they announced that 8/31 was the new date for all of us that ordered last year. No date for the folks who bought two days ago expecting 6 weeks delivery. I understand delays but they had to know before yesterday that my 1/3 ship that turned into 3/3 ship in Feb wasn't going to happen (considering they must not have had any in hand if they now expect them at the end of August). But they were still advertising 3/31 ships for new orders. Oh well, blame it on the supply chain seems to be the latest version of "it's in the mail". 🤷♂Unfortunately, they charged my card 6 months ago so no recourse via a chargeback; can only hope that August doesn't turn into never. Onward to your other video's options 🙂

Well even though the chances of that are very small (area dependant of course) then you could always switch the mode to only alert on door or contact sensor trips and certain motion sensors if you were really worried about it 😅
The automation can switch the alarm to stay while running and back to away when it’s complere

Love the vacuum automation! Am also running a similar setup and it's working brilliant. I am running it a little more complicated with each room separate, stopping when someone gets home and next time starting in the room not vaccumed the longest.

Hey, question for you. How did you go about only doing specific rooms? I've been trying to get this functionality. I can tell my X1 Omni to do a full clean, but i can't figure out how to send it a command to do a room or group of rooms. I found the room numbers using node red debug, but can't figure out whack service to call or the accompaniying json data to specify. I'd love some help if you could point me towards a guide or give the the quick rundown would be much appreciated.

sounds overengineered like in the vid, unless you are using the whole house all the time during the day, people that do home office usually are in one room for some hours so you can set the vacuum then, and for the room where you work in the evening or smth like that. My gf and I do that, every day same time schedule, i dont think it really needs more tweaking than that. Granted if you have an alarm then it makes sense to make them interact.
Yes it it probably hardly over engineered.
I am using a Roborock S5 MaxV. There you have functions for a specific room to be cleaned. By adding a few helpers, a group and some Jinja2 magic it works. Tried to bring it into a blueprint, but it's kinda hard to create them, I think.

Since Covid I work from home, so having a schedule or automation to have my Deebot vacuum when I'm not home became pretty useless. I set up a NodeRed automation to check the time that my alarm is set for in the morning since my schedule varies (Android HA App). Fifteen minutes before my alarm goes off several things happen, including the vacuum cleaning my office, bathroom, and kitchen. It is timed just perfectly so that it is out of the bathroom by the time I've snoozed a couple times and want to shower. A second automation has the vacuum head to my bedroom the first time that I use my computer after my shower (HASS.Agent). A microphone in a 3d printed enclosure pressed up against the pex pipe in the wall that goes to my showerhead "hears" when I have showered so the vacuum isn't triggered if I happen to check email, etc. before my shower. When I do leave the house, the vac is kicked off to clean the whole house.
