One thing that no one seems to be commenting on is how ridiculous the interviewers were. There was absolutely no push back or tough questions on the actual criticism of Oprah - her owning that much land, her getting tax breaks, her using a fund and not directly donating.
We all know that's her friend. How else would gayle get that gig.

So true- she cannot read the room, out of touch with what’s really happening. She should’ve went to her plethora of millionaire/billionaire friends and not asked people who were struggling. And it almost looks like a PR thing for her because there’s a lot of negative press and conspiracy theories which I don’t believe… but it was poorly poorly done. She needs to admit this to her self. What could I have done better? Where did I go wrong? She should’ve raised all the money from her rich friends, and then came to everybody quietly and then helped them out and eventually the word would’ve gotten out about how they helped. Oprah people aren’t bullying you they just want for you to think on their level.
Her circles are with the rich, she has no personal contact with any working class. So is impossible the they( those 5 from the interview) can help her. They are the less rich version of her.
Oprah has yet to fully understand how badly the Sussex interview damaged her reputation. I no longer care what she says-about anything-because she was so clearly in cahoots to spread misinformation about the Monarchy with that scripted interview. You can't play a part in putting propaganda into the world and expect to come out unscathed, and she is seeing that now with the Maui debacle.
On a separate note, Dolly Parton gave of herself - a hometown concert - in exchange for donations.
Oprah asked for donations but gave nothing in return assuming her name alone would entice people to give. What an ego.
Happiness comes easy and it makes me happy that I won't need to be wasting my money on this book.

They have many rich friends, Oprah has invited a lot of influential people on her show. The rock has worked with a lot of his fellow acting colleagues. It's surprising that none of them trust these two with their money. The biggest donation was an anonymous donation of 500. I bet they themselves donated them. They could hardly get 50 donations between the two of them. All those producers and directors didn't even drop 1k? That's rough! They have no real friends, they are lonely and yet she wants to sell books teaching people happiness. Ironic!! Just to save their images and future works in films and works.They could have made tons of fake accounts and donated to their own fund but their greedy a$$€$ won't let them do that because they know only how to receive and not give.

The fund and the 5-10k each family will probably receive is essentially a parting gift. We've known for the longest time she's been trying to buy land in lahaina with no success. Now she'll get her wish thanks to the emergency declaration governor Green passed and all the people who lost their multi million dollar estates will be left with a few thousand from this fund. Unfortunately I don't think so. They're blocking people from visiting their own properties, they rezoned their properties so they can start to build high rise apartments to solve the housing crisis, homeowners insurance claims are already being denied due to this emergency proclimation, the most they'll probably get is free rent in one of these micro apartments for a year or two and whatever money this fund raises. FEMA and red cross have been a national disgrace.

Many people didn't know where to donate and a lot of accounts that were set up for Maui were scams. Oprah and Dwayne Johnson set up something people could trust would go into the hand of verified Maui residents that were affected by the fires. Like any fundraiser, you are free not to donate anything. I'm from Hawaii and I'm grateful she and Dwayne Johnson used their resources to start this. I really don't understand why there is so much resentment towards her when her intentions were from a good place. She already donated $10 million, even if it was $100 million, I doubt that would be enough for her critics. It's sad to see all the hate and negativity when someone is trying to do good. I think Oprah and others will be leery of donating or starting any fundraiser again, it will never be enough.

The charity she claimed would put money directly in the hands of Maui's fire victims was being funneled thru a charity called Entertainment Industry Foundation or EIF. According to their own website the CEO and President of EIF have annual salaries of $1,030,759. The top ten officers pay themselves over $6,000,000 per year, with the average salary at EIF is $117,081. So of the $10,000,000 donated by Oprah and the Rock, $6,000,000 of that goes to pay the salaries of EIF employees per year.
Megan & Haz no balls are prolly on that payroll also!!
Did you know that EIF has been around for more than 75 years and they administer hundreds of charities? The fund was setup within EIF literally BECAUSE the foundation already has the infrastructure to administer the funds. The money collected wasn’t going to pay for the salaries because the salaries are already being paid and they have been for more than 75 years.

I haven't paid attention to Oprah since she pulled her TV show off the air. Which I always found odd and weird and shady. She went into pretty much hiding with the new age of movements, celebrities being cancelled, etc.

Terrible "interview" segment at the end. To me this was only going to be a softball chat to help Oprah promote her new book. This American isn’t happy at all. I moved to an expensive city to take care of my sick grandfather, he was dying and needed a caregiver so of course I jumped in to help. I can’t afford to move now, I’m living paycheck to paycheck. The last thing I thought would happen was getting trapped here because after my grandparents and mother died, I had no one. My family is gone. I have no family, no moral support, nothing. I work just to stay alive and keep my pets alive because honestly they’re all I have left.
So a group of people telling me to be Happy and asking me for money to help a group of people who not only dislike me for being a “colonist” but I’m struggling financially myself, you’re actually insane. That is insanity. Not Einstein version, but the actual mental illness psychopathy.

Teaching people how to be happy through a book makes me unhappy. I have a bit of money, so I get that's not quite it. But true happiness comes from meaningful connections you make. That includes yourself too, connecting with yourself. Happy is also subjective and not long lasting. It's in bursts!! In order to feel happy- you must feel sadness as well. You don't have to read a book to be happy, stop over thinking it. 😊

The people love Dolly. She is a humble person. Oprah is way out of touch to think people have money to spare right now with the current state of things. Have a private fundraiser at your home (these rich people do it all the time) and ask your other rich friends to buy tickets for $10k or more a piece (again this is done all the time). Have an auction. "People don't know how to help". Yes we do Oprah. There's the red cross, catholic charities just to name a couple.
