  • Christmas is coming, and along with it home made gifts, and entertaining! Here is a recipe that I found on McCormick.com for making your own Amaretto! A lovely, tasty, almond flavored liqueur.
    Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, 1 cup water, 1 1/2 cups vodka, 2 ounces pure Almond Extract, 2 tsp pure vanilla extract.

    Hello again Vickey, I just wanted to suggest something that I do when I’m pouring a liquid from one container to another, I pour it either over a bowl or a cookie sheet so that if I make a big mess it is contained and I can pour that off so that it doesn’t make a big mess and you don’t lose any of it. I also found that if you poor things faster to start, then you’re less likely to spill. Thank you for these wonderful recipes. I can’t wait to start making these things for Christmas presents. I’ve got six months for them to all be ready and I want to put some of your recipes for the drinks on a recipe card for the recipients. Thanks again for your help. God bless you and keep you safe. Your new friend, JilliBean (Jill)

    Hi Vickie, I love this recipe!! I always wondered how this was made. And it is so nice to have on hand...especially since it goes into a number of great Italian recipes. However...it can be expensive to buy. I think this is a great way to save on it - especially if you use a mid-range vodka. But like you said, what matters is that it is made with love!! I’m definitely giving this a try. Love, Mary (PS...so glad you like the measuring cup...when I saw it, it had your name on it!! 😀😀😀) Have a great Sunday. Love, Mary❤️😘❤️

    I love tiramisu and I think this is a component of that Italian dessert. I bought a cheaper bottle of amaretto than the D'Sorrono (spelled wrong I'm sure) and it just wasn't very flavorful. So I'm very interested in making this to use for that dessert. What a wonderful gift for someone - or for me!

    Wonderful! I love the idea of homemade liqueurs but I’ve just not done it yet. Kahlua is my favorite and it is very expensive to purchase. I love it in my coffee and I put it in my homemade chili. Incredible. It can be labor intensive but hey, it’s Kahlua. Who cares! Haha!

      @owenw1002 2 роки тому

      I mean this with absolute no offensive intentions, as I don’t know your financial status, residing country, or the level at which you consume Kahlua, but it is NOT expensive. At its most expensive its $20 for a 750ml bottle, but it usually sits at $10-15. I can’t really see how making your own kahlua could possibly be less expensive, unless you are able to get coffee, sugar, rum, and vanilla for under $20, and if you wanted more then 750ml, you need a bigger bottle of rum, which the cheapest and best option is Bacardi, at around $20-30 for a 1.75L bottle, and right there you could just get a bottle of Kahlua. If you have $30 id suggest Mr. Black, it’s absolutely delicious.

    Vickie this just solved a couple of gift ideas for me. I love to make home made gifts and this one is lovely idea. I will make some and find some really lovely bottles to put it in. Since I am low carb, I might try to make some for my husband and I to take a small sip of during the holidays. I will try using a low carb brown sugar substitute. Not Splenda, to many chemicals, but there are other choices. I will let you know how it comes out.

    That looks so nice. The only thing I use Amaretto for is in my strawberry/blueberry trifle and it is delicious. I wet the layers of pound cake with it, then a layer of vanilla pudding, them berries & repeat til full, then top with whip cream or cool whip.

    Hello Vicky, I can see on here that these recipes are pretty old I was in serval years ago but I’ve just now found it so I wanted to thank you for the ones that I’ve seen so far. I wanted to ask you where are you get to “WECK” canning bottles? I don’t know if you might have a source for them but I agree with you, I think they’re beautiful and they would definitely make a beautiful presentation for a bottle of amaretto! I would just tie a red ribbon on it and call it good for Christmas Time. When you are canning with these bottles do you have to keep the syrup warm or do you need to boil it in a covered pressure cooker or anything like that? I used to tan every year pretty much but after I lost my husband nine years ago, it wasn’t worth the effort for just myself however, this is the way to win someone’s heart or at least to warm it up. If you have any further suggestions on how to use this please message me back when you can. I appreciate it and you are so right homemade gifts really are the best. Thanks again and merry Christmas a bit early. It’s only mid June right now so I figure if I start making the alcohol now it out to be mighty tasty around Christmas time! Have a toast from me, Jill from Western Washington state!

    Just for your information, according to McCormick's Recipe, found at McCormick's website ( www.mccormick.com/recipes/beverages-cocktails/homemade-amaretto ,) the recipe calls for 1 ounce of McCormick Pure Almond extract.

      That's a good question from a year ago that I would like to know also. I love love Amaretto. So I guess if we don't get an answer, I will try it with the one ounce and then add the rest to get a good taste if I don't like the first way.

    Hmmmm Didn't ever think about making Amaretto.....I was on a Military Deployment in 1983 to Italy and brought home several boxes of pure Olive Oil, wines & AMARETTO....It was so cheap....but I thought that Amaretto was distilled a different way???? or is this the traditional way to make it? I just looked up a Kahlua recipe also....very much similar....Vanilla beans are EXPENSIVE...

    • @VickiesCountryHome
      @VickiesCountryHome  5 років тому +1

      It probably isn’t the traditional way, but it sure tastes like amaretto! Also, check out my video on how to make a renewable vanilla extract. That is what I used, and it is less expensive than buying vanilla, and you can keep it going for years! ua-cam.com/video/0CoBd19Bfgs/v-deo.html

      I’m not sure that I can help with that, but maybe just make the syrup without the vodka? If it is too sweet, you could add water. Vodka doesn’t add flavor, so that isn’t a problem.
