Fall Garden Cleanup and Planning
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 лис 2024
- It’s time to clean up the fall garden so we can plan for next spring. Out with the annuals so we can see where to plant those bulbs. Leave the tops and spent flower heads of any perennials or shrubs you might want to keep for the pollinators and winter interest.

I see a cat on the neighbors roof! Wow it’s a climber for sure!!!❤
Oh, how I wish I had a Bruce and a Kayla and a Javier and a Sergio! You are so blessed, Linda! ( I know you realize this.) Happy fall .
They are the best!
Your backyard is looking fabulous!!! The black kitty on your neighbors window sill was a great photo bomb.
Saw that, too.
I gotta go back and look
9:35 best cat action ever! 😂 look at the top left of the screen on neighbour’s roof.
Linda, I love that you are unscripted. (Bloopers and all!) Your style is so welcoming like a friend just walking thru the garden together. The garden is gorgeous!!
Oh thank you!
9:36 I was laughing so hard at the cat 🐈 on the neighbors roof. I can’t imagine being on the top floor and seeing a cat sitting in the window 🪟 looking 👀 in 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😸😺😹
We all would love a 'Bruce' in our lives/homes.... and a Kayla/team, Stewart/Leah, Roger, and John T. By chance, will John T. be visiting the cottage anytime soon? I always look forward to listening to him. You have a wonderful group of people that all have their hand in the success of the cottage. Nicely done.
They truly are wonderful artisans and friends over many years.
The back windows done! I am blown away at how talented & expert your crews are! Your
plans have indeed turned out beautiful, Linda. Quite an achievement in ONE year!
Don't forget to have fun with the process itself - the finale is fun but so is the journey!
The windows look great! I’m planting quite a few baby shrubs this Fall. For now they will look sad, but in my imagination, they are glorious:) In gardening, the best things come to those that wait.
Exactly!
Linda , since you mentioned your garden journal which I plan to order. Someday could you do a segment on how to use your journal. Like what things you write , how often , how detailed do you get ? Stuff like that I’m excited to start a journal of my plants. ❤️
Tussy Mussy! Love that name. I pick lots of them and put them in small vases around our home. It’s amazing what you can put together when you don’t really have many flowers in the garden
Yes!
LOVE it ALL!! Everything looks so good! Wonderful job to the whole Vater Team!
Hi from Annie, the garden is lovely as always, it inspires me to get out tin to the garden and do some pruning my geraniums grow fast and they take over if not trimmed. I love the idea of those little flower posies they look great around the house and cost next to nothing. I have sometimes framed some nice flower blooms in a picture frames and given them as gifts. I also lay them in between two sheets of grease waxed paper the stuff you use in the kitchen, and I place them on the table and iron the flower blossoms in between the two sheets of paper . I made metres of it using all sorts even autumn leaves. I then used them to cover my windows inside and some of my cupboards can be used like wall paper. I also used it to cover some books and made cards with it too so many thing we can do with these blossoms and leaves.
The cat on the windowsill next door was a nice surprise! I was evaluating the color of your neighbor's home compared to Vater Grey when I noticed the playful cat.
It didn’t get in though!
Gardeners are so connected by their hearts. The last walk through the yard each day,I too,cut my little Gussie- mussies, place them in my tiny little vases from Grandma,Mom,and place them on Kitchen window sill.🥰 and smile
Yes!
Tussie
Love the paint choice it looks great. You have accomplished so much in a short period of time. Love Stewart and Leah's interaction.
It's great that you still have painted ladies visiting your flowers!
I agrée!
Loving the neighbors cat in the window at 9:56!!! Always enjoy seeing your space!
Linda the windows look wonderful!!! They fit in so much better!!!!
I just love strolling through your garden with you and Stewart. The garden can sooth the soul like nothing else! I like that Stewart feels comfortable enough to put his opinion out there. Thank you for my dose of LV!
Thanks Linda for sharing your yard to us and to see the painted window. I love your videos & getting ideas & learning tips about gardening from you. Enjoy the videos best when it is you & Stuart both - you all make a great team.
The windows look fantastic.
Love the painted window, looks great!
I definitely understand the upkeep of being a homeowner. Just this week we noticed another facia board that needs replacing and a woodpecker that has drilled a hole in out siding! 🙄 and here I thought I had to worry about the squirrels (knock on wood). My dahlias are liking this cooler weather. They struggled with the heat and now all have naked legs. I’ll be cutting them back next year. Something to note in my journal.
👍
I had to rewind to listen to Linda @9:30, as I was intend on watching the kitty on the roof, wondering if it would get in through the window, too cute. Welcome back Linda, glad you had a lovely trip. Awesome forage finds❤
When the screens are off the cats will play!
It's so pretty in your back yard!
I call the stairs adorned with brick edging "the wedding band stairs" because they literally remind me of diamond studded rings. Love your garden in the back. A lovely happy place to be : )
Love that description.
This is what became evident for me this year in the garden.. (aka boxwood basil). I am absolutely in love with annuals, because they are so gorgeous AND they give you TONS of seeds for the next year! Not only have a collected mine…but on my walk through the neighborhood, I’ve collected some from other gardens! Example. I have grown white cosmos in my front garden for years…now I’ve discovered a Blush and more recently (thanks to a neighbor) a white with purple edges)!
I ordered my basil seeds and am anxious to try them next year.
OMG, i love the windows painted. They look amazing!!!
Your yard is stunning. I wish I had a green thumb like you😞
Your videos are always a treat! Thx for being you and sharing your talents with us.
The dahlias are gorgeous and a pleasant surprise!
To me too!
We would love for you to share the chili recipe if it’s not too much of a pain. Thank you, everything looks so nice.
Can't wait to see how Linda does her journal with added pictures.
Can’t wait to take it myself!
Hi Linda. Everything looks great 👍👍👍 You have designed a beautiful backyard
I Love it 💕💕💕
💕 the dahlias! What a beautiful surprise to come home to!
Wow!! The back window looks so good! I love how big the mahogany splendour got in the coleus pot! Thanks for a lovely walkabout! 😎🇨🇦
The garden looks great . Love the blank spaces , a place for your eye to rest!
oh, it looks awesome…good job, Bruce! Linda, the backyard has come together so beautifully. You are a genius!
Yard looks just as beautiful like you.❤❤
How kind 🦋
Everything is sure filling out Linda. The paint colour looks fantastic! 🩶🌾🍁
I love watching the process.
How perfect for the Halloween Season…There is a Black Cat stealing the show @ minute marker 9:55 - 10:15, (across the street, 2nd floor window)
Love, how you have transformed that entire yard in less than a year!
It's amazing!
Just an opinion - I'm thinking maybe the large planters in the backyard should've been painted a contrasting color so they would lighten up that area and pop what's in them. 😊
You have really accomplished so much in 10 months. Amazing!
I love your artemisia! You also might want to try silver mound artemisia it is naturally mounding so you don't have to prune it.
Planted some today!
What a treat to see the plants in Autumn transition and the windows. Everything looks great.
BTW Your neighbors' cat on the roof @ 9:29! Always surprises in real life.
Thanks
Hi from Annie, just had a thought with lots of folks to entertain outdoors, wouldn't it be great to have a pizza oven, to bake those lovely fresh home made pizzas.🍕
Looks great… don’t forget the new garden gate 😊
I pick up that reindeer moss here in the piney woods of east Texas and use it for “filler” in many projects.
Lucky you!
The windows look fantastic-better than I imagined! Everything is coming together beautifully. ❤🏡🪴
Thank you!
Linda your paint on the new windows is perfect, thank you again for all the work you and the team do to make sure fun and informative videos I learn something new from every show🥂
Good Morning from Australia.
Window looks great!
Thank you for sharing your world with us.
Fiona and John 🦘😊🙏🪴
Good morning…or evening🤣
everything is so beautiful :)
Hi, Linda. Thank you for your video. ❤ You're so welcome.
Linda. Your home looks so lovely.. Your windows look beautiful grey. It looks so nice. You have done so much and it all looks great
How beautiful everything still looks. And the windows are looking great! Your neighbors’ cat was trying to get their attention to be let in I think.😆 Glad you enjoyed your visit with your sister. Thanks for sharing. 🌺😎✌🏻
I know!
We just got our solo stove for the new outdoor space we’ve been working on this year. We had an old tennis court that we’ve deconstructed and have been working on making it our outdoor entertainment space. We still have lots to do. I love watching you in your garden and look forward to all the updates! Enjoy your solo stove! 8:18
It’s on the window now!!
Wow…what a difference the change in paint color makes!!!
I agrée!
I’d like for you to talk about your new trees. I’d love to see how they are doing.
When they start turning color I will!
Fabulous…everything! Love it all so much!
I love the tussy mussy. Love making them myself.
Diamond frost euphorbia is the plant I've been trying to figure out the name of. I love it. So airy and delicate.
I have a brand new garden in my front yard. Much smaller than yours but similar in style and things I have planted. So I am interested in seeing how it looks this winter and what additions I will make in the spring. I planted salvia for the first time ever and I love it so much. I often see bees and hummingbirds on it and it makes me so happy.
Salvia is wonderful!
Amazing transformation from the beginning. Everything looks great, Linda. 💕
We didn't have frost here in OKC. I think that dry, brown on the leaves was from under watering. Definitely no frost as yet.
Could be.
Just started to enjoy sage herbal tea from my herb potager. Very nice. And good for you.
Giggling at your ground foraging! We just return shortly from Newport RI. As we were strolling through beautiful manicured lawn of ( The Elms ) Gilded Age castle on the coast of the Atlanta. I picked chestnuts, the shells, charming pine cones,Magnolia leaves, from the estate, that flew back home with me🤗 Exciting you got your new windows painted, they look great. What’s nice about the Solo burner is, no smoke , you’ll love it
Good to know!
I just pull my dahlia’s up at the end of the season, toss them in a brown paper bag and store them on a shelf in the basement for winter! Yhey get bigger and more beautiful every year!
Very enjoyable video today. Just the right length, place looks nice even with not being all in place
Thank you for posting the colour, your home is spectacular. I love being able to watch your daily life. It is so fun and beautiful ❤
Can someone kindly interpret the label for me? Is it Duramax exterior Valspar, and would love to know the finish? Is it perhaps a satin or semi gloss? Anyway, this is a great pointer just as I have been looking to paint my own window frames. Thank you Linda for your generosity in sharing.
Always look forward to all of your videos ! 😊
I love your style💕
🙏🙏
It looks wonderful! I did some bed to gardening today too! 😂
We understand one another then !
Linda, your new back window looks so great in Vader grey. My eye goes to the electrical on the wall to the side of your back door. Is there a plan to screen it? I also notice the rain barrel. I would have liked a softer looking one. There are some urn shaped rain barrels that I think would have been nice on that corner. Beautiful job on the front and back yard. I’ve loved watching the rapid progress. You have a wonderful design sense!
Thanks! Yes on the electrical, and I like the rustic quality of the rain barrel. Isn’t it fun that we all have different ideas?!
OMG! The cat on the roof across the street was a hoot!
Morning just love everything about the garden.
Looks so good he did a great job
Everything looks amazing. You can take cuttings of your Joseph's Coat too. I tried it a bout 6 weeks ago and it rooted easily in water.
Purple Ball Basil, I got my seeds from Baker Creek and they are amazing.
There is a cat outside at the window of the house across the street. 😂😂
Did she moved? I loved watching her videos ,lost her for a while but this seems like a new property, love it
Like the cat on the window when you were talking about your sister (cat on top left)
Your property looks amazing! I love how you made the tiny bouquet to give an idea for potting and planting.
Hi from Annie, I had a thought about the front garden an idea, I can imagine an Arch Way at the front entrance along the path , things like Jasmine and Honeysuckle grow fast over the arch so does Ivy and it looks great in a short time. I have four lovely archways in my front in different positions, they have Jasmine Ivy Honeysuckle growing on them it has only take short time to get them established looks lovely when in flower.
Sounds charming 🩵
So glad you enjoyed your trip to NC! Nebo is about fifteen minutes from my hometown, Morganton, NC.🥰
Have loved watching your new yard develop into your vision and style! Do you mind sharing the shelf with all the terracotta pots stacked up that’s close the ac unit? I love how that looks!
Thank you! I got it at pottery barn years ago, but I’ll be keeping an eye out for something similar to share on the channel.
The basil winters over here in the NW in pots or in ground.
Looks good
You usually need to stake Dilias.
Love your place,
❤
I was noticing on your front hill, the left side is missing a plant you have on the right side of the steps.
You need red poker's in your garden Linda.
Linda I love the color you picked for the windows and trim, could you tell me what it is?
Hi there! Everything is looks wonderful. Always inspired. Have you ever shot video of "pulling out annuals"? Is it worth doing? Im still learning so much and pulling out, deadheading, pruning back (like way way back) are just some of what I still need to learn. Thank you for considering it. 😊
Your friend Kristine
I will!
@@LindaVater Yay!:Thank you!
I also live in Oklahoma and I've looked at a few of your videos trying to find out what kind of Redbud trees you had in your previous home -- Eastern? Oklahoma? -- but I can't find you mentioning it. I would love to know because I want to buy two Redbuds and limb them up like you do over my patio. Thanks in advance if you have time!
Eastern!
@@LindaVater Thanks so much for your reply!
Do you ever open your windows during the day or do they stay closed all the time and you use heating/air conditioning as required ? We use washing lines too where I live, we would normally always have a washing line out the back ( not sure if we still do with new builds now), we only use dryers when absolutely necessary, we use the wind and sunshine ...can't imagine a washing line out back at your place, but am sure you would make it look pretty somehow 😂Garden looking gorgeous Linda . Inspiring me for my little patch .
Linda, I have an amaryllis that I have outside in soil on my patio. How do I get it to bloom for Christmas?
I have planted winter gem boxwoods in large pots and I love the look. I am hoping they will make it through winter in zone 6A. Does anyone leave theirs out for the winter or do you bring them in for protection? Sorry this is actually a question rather than a comment.
I don’t
and have had good luck overall. You might try putting them in a protected area.
Thank you
