    I really admire your commitment to Bogie. I definitely agree that galah's are not good pets. I have three rescue galahs and I love them so much, but they are not easy pets to own. We recently had one fly away but got her back 5 days later which was so scary. I want to freefly them in the future but I definitely understand the anxiety of it. Also what you said at the end about being careful of Bo when you're sad is so true!! If I'm having a bad day I definitely don't go the the galahs for comfort. They seem to pick up on that I'm sad but rather than comfort me, they decide to make my day worse by divebombing me 😅

      Ahh thank you for watching as well as adding your input. I can’t imagine having three you are a saint! And yeah they definitely can sense weakness (sadness and crying 😂) and will utilize that time to be even more destructive

    love your comments about free flight. I only let my Galah fly inside the house, because there is simply too much danger out there, and my Galah is not the adventurous type. He seems to be content enough to sit by the window and watch the world but he doesn't show any sign or envy to venture out there and I wont' force it....I wish you and Bogie and your family a very happy life!

    Thank you so much for answering my question (the one about our 7 month old daughter 😉). We are indeed taking things very slow and letting Echo and the baby getting used to each other on a very very very safe distance. Also, we figured that for now it’s best that we wait to physically introduce them to each other when our daughter is old enough to be taught how to handle a parrot, which actually may be a few more years… For now they are both having so much fun “talking” to each other 🥰
    I’m wishing you all the best and a very happy and healthy pregnancy and I hope you are able to enjoy it, because it really is such a special time and experience ❤️

      I think that is an excellent and responsible choice! I am in a similar mindset when time comes and I have the baby around Bogie. I imagine I will include Bogie in a few low risk activities while the baby is super tiny, like bath time. A huge part of responsible parrot ownership with kids is teaching the kid how to interact and respect the animal more than anything so I think you are right on track!

    My 2 cents on owning a galah. I think you have to be a very dedicated person to own a galah. My female is very loving BUT very demanding. EXTREMELY smart so always finding new things to teach. Mine likes playing games on a tablet. Maybe more so, likes spending that time with me & getting food lol. She did learn animals, colors & starting to draw on the tablet so they can learn like a child. They are higher energy so don't get one if you want to sit & chill with your bird.

    Would love video on ways you entertain Bogie when you don't feel well or are busy and he doesn't want toys, he wants you. My girl does negative attention seeking behaviors. Don't want to just cage her.

    Have you tried the oven baked bites? My galah likes them too. I've started feeding a mixture of pellets...harrisons, tops, roudybush & the oven baked bites. I find so much conflicting info on each brand & who's advocating for each. So in going with the everything diet.lol

      @flocklife  Рік тому

      No i haven't tried them! What brand? and yeah... all the food brands claim to be the "best" and "healthiest". I think going for variety is awesome so you're doing a great job! I really like the ingredients in harrisons.

    My Dad owns a galah (named Rosie). We have had her since i was about 7 and I will most likely be looking after her in the future when my parents can't look after her anymore, I estimate she is between 10 and 30 years old. I currently take care of her cage cleaning, food and toys with occasional training + I am slowly working on bonding as she doesn't like me very much. She is surprisingly a really good bird as far as cockatoos go, the only cockatoo thing about her is her mood swings, mess, quick boredom and destruction, she rarely bites, is pretty quiet and pretty independent. I would even go as far as to saying she is the 'perfect bird' but she is 1 in a million.
    I was wondering if you have any tips or advice you could give me about looking after one 100%/fully.

    • @tzxazrael
      @tzxazrael Рік тому +1

      mess, easy boredom, destruction... those are just bird things, not "bad bird" things. xD giver her lots of toys that are appropriate to destroy and she'll love it.

    • @Beepbebeboop
      @Beepbebeboop Рік тому +1

      @@tzxazrael yes of course but on a cockatoo level those things are quite extreme, to me they are not inherently bad things (if you re-read my comment i described them as 'cockatoo things' not bad things). I give her lots of toys, she especially loves palm leaf pinatas :)

      Hey sorry for the late reply! That is amazing you're going to take over when your parents cannot anymore. (lot's of families end up rehoming which is so hard on the parrot). I have SO much advice but it's hard to know where to start. I'd say the biggest rule of thumb is to never force your her to do anything, especially since she is skeptical of you right now. I would make start with target training her (I have a video on target training too). Try having some parrot friendly meals with her! You can always message me directly on IG (@bogiethegalah) as well for more questions!!

    • @Beepbebeboop
      @Beepbebeboop Рік тому

      @@flocklife Yeah, I would hate for her to go to another home, I think she would find it really stressful. She does know how to target but I am currently working on making sure she touches the stick lightly which she is catching on to pretty fast. She actually bit me for the first time ever the other day, it's the first time I did not notice her bad mood but I will know better next time. I think she bit me because I left a light on that is usually turned off + I was hand feeding her a pellet and she was probably expecting a yummy treat. I could try sharing a meal with her but she will probably be looking for an opportunity to bite me. She does beg for food off my plate a lot which is pretty funny so it might work. I might message you if I have any questions. I'm struggling with body language and sounds meaning as I can find nothing online.

    Hi this might be a weird comment but I work at a pet supply store and we just rescued 2 galahs a female and a Male from a woman who was to sick to take care of them we took them to the vet she said that the male was obese at 1 pound do you have any recommendations to slim him down also the female is varry scared of us we are wondering if there is anything we can do to make her more comfortable around us? Also the male who is "obese " they get lots of veggies every day limited fruit and nuts why do you think he is "obese"? We are semi new to birds we did lots of research befor we got them any suggestions/recommendations?

    • @flocklife
      @flocklife  Рік тому

      Hey you should check out our website in terms of diet and what to feed them! We have a good sample chop recipe and overall guide to nutrition. Not exactly sure why the bird is obese if he is on a healthy chop diet… maybe it wasn’t such a healthy diet? Hard to say when we are unfamiliar with both of their histories. For now, don’t force the female out of the cage or try to do anything that could further scare her. It’s also very difficult to help with behavior without more detail, so would you guys be interested in a consultation? All the Info is on our website .
