MUCH respect for this video and the time, energy and research put in. I’d like to say that veterinarians do not take nutrition classes in their 4 years at vet school, it’s an elective. They literally aren’t required to take a single class on nutrition. And most brands like purina and hills have partnerships with vets which is why veterinarians will recommend them, because they are getting paid to. Veterinarians are experts with many emergency and long term health problems but when it comes to nutrition (with ANY pet including dogs and cats) the veterinary world is severely lacking and bought out. *PLEASE* keep this in mind when saying phrases like “my vet recommended this”, your vet was paid to recommend that.
Appreciate the comment and you watching this video! this isn’t always the case when it comes to vets recommending certain pets foods. My vet has seen so many people bring severely malnourished/sick birds in because they are on diets that do not meet their nutritional needs and often times unfortified or thrown together to be a more “natural” diet. Also most high quality pellets have been tested through numerous clinical trials which yield positive results which is why vets point is in that direction. Not saying every vet has good intentions, but blanket statements like “your vet was paid to recommend this food” does more harm than good
Love this! And thanks for the shout outs ❤
Thank you for being so real and honest!!! I have been waiting for someone to feel the same as me about the bird tricks method. Now on Harrison’s because of the info you share, continue the awesome work❤❤
Great video!! And thank you for discussing your take on the Birdtricks diet. I have a green cheek conure, a golden capped conure and a budgie. All 3 of my birds are on the seasonal feeding system. Much like you, for a long time I’ve been brainwashed into believing that that is the only decent diet you could give your bird and anything else is harming them. Through some research (googleing)I have loosened up on this belief. Our recent vet visit and bloodwork showed that our conures are so healthy and in tip top shape. My budgie, however, is low on calcium and is currently on a supplement to bring it back up. And although my birds are still on this diet I am looking into other potential options for my budgie once the calcium supplement is finished. (Possibly the other guys down the road). I’ve been following along with your diet journey with bogie and I have to let you know you are a main reason why I am breaking out of the mindset that the SFS is the only diet. It’s allowed me to be less critical of what other people feed their birds as well.
Yes! Thank you so much for sharing!! I see so many people beating themselves up or spending so much time and money on this diet that they feel they have to provide their parrot!! We really appreciate you watching this video and sharing your journey
Thank you that was a great video!
I have stayed away from Harrison’s because of the peanuts, aspergillosis scars me. My personal fears aside, I’m glad you found something you and Bogie are happy with. Love this video and can’t wait for the next one. ❤
I used to feed my tiels harrisons as well. I later found out that is has a lot of corn, peanuts and soy. I now only feed them Top's alongside a varied fresh diet.
Thank you SO much for bringing up the powder situation! My GCC has been converted to Harrison's from BirdTricks' pellets and it is remarkable how much more completely my little guy finishes his meals. It always didn't sit well with me that I was throwing out so much powder. It was literally like throwing away money and made me concerned that he was lacking in his nutrition. Your content definitely inspired our transition to a fortified pellet! So ignore the haters, keep up the great work, and thanks again to you and Bogie! 😊
Aw thanks so much for reaching out and sharing your personal experience!! The powder stressed me out SO MUCH!!! definitely can relate to you feeling like you were throwing away money
Omg, I have to add another comment haha. My galah is also on Harrisons and a fresh chop I make for him, and he also will only eat the smaller pallets. We tried the bigger pallets for ages and he hated them, our teil has the smaller pallets which he would steal so we discovered he had the same preference ☺️.
well it kinda makes sense!! Galahs are granivorous and have pretty small beaks! so great you came to that conclusion as well!! we may be onto something 😂😂
UA-cam Dr. Jason Crean. He is a highly regarded Avian Nutritionist. A few bird people on here have interviewed him on UA-cam. I think you will appreciate the info.
Thanks for the note but Jason Crean and I definitely have different nutrition philosophies !!
I'm so excited to watch your journey more. My partner and I are planning children soon and often worry about how our galah will adjust. Watching your videos feels like a little adventure into the options, haha ☺️.
So thankful that you support us and watch our videos!! I will definitely keep you updated
Are the peanuts and soy in harrisons pellets ok? Would the peanuts develop mold?
Hey!! Great question! I would definitely go check out our “Fillers” blog post that is linked in the description. It goes over both peanuts and soy. can you come Harrison‘s is a pretty quality brand that test for mycotoxins so I feel safe !
@@flocklife Ok thank you!
I once gave my galah food to the wild parrots visiting, they didn't eat any of it. Makes me think why...
