farmers cultivate weed in mountainous regions for a reason. different height levels from sea level produces different qualities of plant like high medium and low grade. the best stuff always comes nearest the top fields where uv levels are higher. the grade of soil plays a factor in this also.
in short yes uv light will induce a sexually frustrated female plant into producing more resin for two reasons 1 in the hope of capturing a little bit of pollen so she can reproduce and 2 the extra resin acts as a sun screen to protect the plant from higher radiation levels in turn raising the thc levels even more. honestly uv light works

The reason why adding UV light increases the thc percentage is very simple. UV is actually a harmfull wavelength for plants, plants feels it's presence and as a response the start making more resin for protection. The resin protects the plant structure.

    • @EnhancedCognition
      @EnhancedCognition 4 роки тому +6

You nailed it.. Cannabis developed their unique trichome structure and chemical compounds to help filter out UV light from hitting the seed pods which could potentially damage the seed and it would seem THC plays a big part in that protection.
Not to mention the oftentimes bitter taste, extreme stickiness and disorienting effects of that chemical concoction in which is unpalatable and undesirable to most animals (aside from us of course).
It makes you wonder if enacting other common threats that they would naturally encounter might increase other compounds as well.

My understanding is CBD binds with receptors in the body more easily than THC therefore consuming buds with high THC & CBD is counter intuitive. Higher CBD reduces THC uptake in the body. My medicinal preference is for high THC (up to 20%) low CBD flowers. Lower CBD to THC ratio means I need to consume less for the desired medicinal effect. The less I consume the healthier (and cheaper) it is for me. That's my opinion based on my own knowledge and consumption.

    • @Kev1nL
      @Kev1nL 2 роки тому +5

I hear what you're saying. But the entourage effect and a lot of research would say that CBD actually increases the effects of THC at the right ratios. My personal experience mixing and vaping thc and cbd flower together has made me think that it's probably right. It really does work that way to an extent, give it a shot though, ymmv. We all experience cannabinoids differently

If marijuana could cure schizophrenia the amount of money spent would never go in to r&d to devolve such strong weed to save us money and make it better for us. If you think about it thc is literally the psychoactive part so by eliminating the cbd which helps regulate it can’t be all that good for us. Don’t get me wrong I love strong frosty nugs but mother nature developed it for us over millions of years. If anything we should research how to grow normal marijuana/food quicker not stronger

      Here's a couple links on UV Testing & Benefits - ua-cam.com/video/QRAU0ziyDpo/v-deo.html
      *Dutchman's Medical Marijuana*
*Question/Statement* ; ..."U.V. light can increase resin, or oil production. Some resins contain more C.B.D. and very little T.H.C. So adding U.V. raises the oil production. Not always T.H.C., but U.V. does increase the potency through raised oil production. The oils shield the plant not the T.H.C. alone."....
*Response* ; ...."that is correct I have tested many strains and the majority of them only increase THC potency in fact I noticed the other cannabinoids dropped however we recently tested a Holy Grail in our room and it tested at 5% CBN 30% THC so the CBN went up 3% and a THC went up 5% so both can be affected however the majority of the energy from the plant seems to be directed towards THC and I believe that is because the plant is using the THC as sunscreen it's protecting itself so that it can live another day and not be Overexposed to the UV the killing the plants chance of survival because it needs to drop seeds at the end of its life cycle to carry on is lineage and it seems that THC is what is being used as the blocker like sunscreen Nature's sunscreen"....
      *AND*

I've really been enjoying your channel from across the pond here in the US...please do keep it up. I've been recently considering some UV and IR supplementation strips but there is so little quantifiable data, just gut impressions and feelings.
I feel that UV and IR are missing from many LEDs and the resulting bud I get from my Pacific Light Concepts grow is slightly less "dank" than from CMH, even if in other metrics it is superior like yield per watt, etc.
However, saying something is missing and then finding an appropriate way to supplement it is more than just a simple question....if a human is missing a micronutrient you can't just throw some boron at them and expect them to thrive, it will be a slow process of supplementation through nutrition. How to dose UV and IR reliably and to the right degree, rather than just throwing some shit against the wall to see what sticks will be a really key implementation.
    Cheers!

Theres NEVER been weed even at 20% thc lol......ALL the little "test" kits that simply work by picking a nice frosty section of bud to throw into a container( usually baggie) and add chemicals to achieve the desired color range on the provided "chart" is 100% bullshit......% Numbers are pretty much the ONLY way to promote seed sales and boost business.....bullshit corporations like "high times" put on little displays like "cannabis cup" to confirm that the 27% claimed by the seed company is REAL and why it actually WON the "cup" ( good for a few years boosted sales)..... And let's face it 10-15$ per SEED is WAY TOO much $$$ ( for ANYTHING that grows upon this earth) but without the % SCAM they'd only be worth about 19-15$ for 100 or more lol ( just like everything else)..... STILL don't believe it?....then just go to ANY seed shop online ( OR in person) and see WHAT is selling the MOST .... Will it be lower or unlisted thc% strains?....or WILL the MOST popular BEST sellers ALWAYS be the highest ranked thc% strains?......i can guarantee you it makes little difference at THAT point because pretty much ALL the top strains are the same and none are consistently above 25% and MOST of the time below 20%...... Grow enough and you'll see first hand....

The problem has been the hostile attitude to almost all research efforts to show cannabis as anything but negative for at least 60 years, and as a consequence, very little research about changing yeilds of different cannabinoids or detailed research about different production methods. With legalisation sweeping over USA and Canada I'm sure that more work will be done but may not be made public given the huge sums of money involved.
I'm happy with solacure flower power 1m 32w, along with Migro 200 with Gen 4 cobs (but not plus version). Was very tasty produce, but have nothing to compare too. I'd read about UVB8 receptor, and seemed to align with source material so just went for it.
The germicidal/fungicidal/insecticidal properties of UVB are well known and for less than £100 and 32w for 3 hours a day that alone was worth it. If it also happens to up beneficials at the same time bonus!
Something to consider. Bulb is about £50 to replace and lasts for 3 flowering sessions (then can be retired to veg area and used till it fails to fire, much longer time, maybe 4000h).

In my 2 or 3 years of searching for all konds of info about growing weed, it seems to be the case that outdoor grown ( wih UV) is more penetrating and lasts longer, when smoked, than indoor with negligible UV. It doesn't necessarily increase THC %. There are other variables like soil quality, nutrients etc . I think I will have to do a comparison video with 2 plants of the same strain. They would be grown in the same conditions except UV A and B added for 1 and not the other Send them out for testing and do a subjective smoke report .

Much of what is discussed is generally true, but it goes to both red and blue, hence the NASA studies. I personally from first hand experience found that what really changes is the trichome size itself. hps produces dense material, which has traditionally been desired. I myself used MH in the past throughout. I noticed immediate differences. Although my material was a bit more airy, the trichomes where incredibly large in contrast to hps material. I've now moved to full spectrum COBs(generally sold full spectrum 300w cobs) based on data and will pick up a BLUE heavy set(they are selling full spectrum with higher mixes of blue) to add as the size of the trichomes is a huge difference on the total resin produced; larger trichomes, more desired material. Until I do it first hand, I trust nothing. I see a huge push on QB lights. COBS and QBS are a growers war atm. i think it needs time in discussion. First hand, cross my heart, Blue UV makes trichomes larger.

When I was growing in my 3' by 3' tent I first used a 315 SunSystem CMH. It is known to put out UV. It also put out some infra-red. I stopped using it because of the infra red heat generated (during the summer), and it wasn't as efficient as my cob lights . I only now use it in the winter to keep it warm. Other wise you would have to use a space heater.
I then started using the Migro 400. Way less heat problems. The only problem is that in the winter I'm forced to use the old CMH to keep the temperatures up. I DON'T NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCE IN POTENCY. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THE CANNABIS SMELLS SWEETER WHEN GROWN WITH THE MIGRO 400.

I found cmh little crap ones like 315w to put out basically zero heat. Unless there was like 8 of them together. Even then it was cooler then 4 600w hps lights.

Owning a chain of indoor tanning salons for many many years I made it a point to learn everything I could about UVA, UVB, and UVC, along with skin care, and everything involved with the tanning process, etc. First of all, the florescent bulbs used in tanning beds, like all florescent bulbs, are glass. So if glass blocked or filtered out UV as you say, no one would ever get any tan and I'd have quickly been out of business. You go on to talk about someone adding 40 watt florescent bulbs to a grow and adding filters to filter out the UVA. Florescent bulbs are made of glass, so if as you say, glass filters out UV, why would they need to add filters to filter out anything? So I have to call obvious bull on that one. In another video you suggest wearing any kind of glasses with glass lens to protect your eyes from UV. This is absurd! Tanning goggles are akin to eye protection worn in welding. Glass provides ZERO protection from UV unless it's polarized like the windows in your car, and even then it only offers a slight filtering effect. If you rely on glass to protect your eyes from UV, you might want to invest in a white cane. Overexposure to UVA, UVB, or UVC WILL damage your eyes. Why do you think you need to wear eye protection in a tanning bed? Secondly, in indoor tanning you don't receive any UVC because, even though it is the deepest penetrating of the 3 types of UV, providing the deepest, darkest, and longest lasting tan, it is considered the most dangerous UV and can contribute to melanoma, a form of skin cancer that can be deadly. And yes, even though it isn't visible, the sun DOES deliver UVC. It's a fact! Besides, the jury is still out on the effects or any potential benefits of UV on grows. So sir, the information you are giving people is not accurate and even dangerous in some cases. I find it hard to believe you represent a LED manufacturing company (that just happens to sell UVB lights) with so many inaccurate statements. I can't believing what I'm hearing. You may want to check with your attorneys before opening your company up to potential libel suits. So unless you're trying to reduce the cannabis growing population, please get your facts straight.

One answer would be as a defence mechanism the brighter the direct sunt light (the more uv light) the plant recieves the more of a sunblock the plant will produce .. ie .. trichomes ... so to answer the question is a no brainer will uv increase the trichome production... i would think so my man.. happy growing everyone

a constant supply of UV like the CMH provides is not necessarily what you want for potency but it can help increase the total count of trichs but this won't increase potency because THC absorbs the UV light like sunscreen and degrades itself in the process.......that being said it has come to be known that what you want to do is expose them to the critical wavelengths during the 3 hour peak of the daylight period and use a much more intense UV light source than what the CMH or even the Reptile lights provide..they are not enough power......you need the kind of uv power that will destroy them in 2 hours of 100% duty cycle exposure ...something like 75%UVB 25%UVA ..so that is about all the lamp produces ...and then run that with a cycle timer at 15 on 15 off and tweek it until you get it dialed down so it doesn't hurt the plant at all.....but it still gets exposed to a high level of it for the peak 3-5 hours ....simulating the effects of high altitude environment in nature such as the KUSH mountains ......or equatorial regions also have this effect because of the earth's atmosphere's ability to filter UV .....all that being said keep in mind some genetics are not capable of responding as well as others and some strands are already responding as well as they can without stimulation and then some strains will respond well to exposure and reach a genetic potential of producing more thc than it could have without the extra push........a lot of this may also have to do with the nutrients as well as the wet dry cycle.....things like chitin/chitinase or even having enough sulfur to produce the oils can all play a large role in plant secretions. ........
just remember little indian dudes been growing kush at high altitude for at least 6k years and thats why indica can kick some ass.....its not the closet growers of the past 50 years
basically ....you wanna hit em with a powerful ass UV lamp but only for a second so the plant is left to freak the total f&^) out about it but it didn't actually hurt the plant .....its all about the hormonal hormonal response without the harmful effects of constant bombardment of such powerful photons ......counter intuitive lessons for days in this one folks.......more power with the bulbs and more of them to eliminate shadowing but shorten exposure time down to eliminate damaging DNA
i pulled this from amazon here in USA ....Agromax is the latest craze for the UV market here....much love and enjoy!!!
((((AgroMax Pure UV is the industry's most advanced supplemental ultraviolet grow lamp, with 15x more power than other types of UV lamps. Supplemental UV-B light can have desirable effects in the phenolic compounds, flavonoid pigments, resins, oils, etc. of many plants. Using advanced phosphors and highly-specialized UV transmitting glass, Pure UV lamps emit a 3:1 ratio of UV-B to UV-A with a slight amount of visible light to produce such sought after effects through a plants own natural processes and without the use of chemicals.
Please note: reaction to supplemental UV can vary among plant strains. Applied UV levels will be affected by; 1) number of lamps, 2) distance, and 3) efficiency of the fixture power supply & reflector.
WARNING: Overexposure to UV light can be harmful to humans and plants. Proper protective eye-wear and long-sleeve clothing is necessary when working with Pure UV lamps. When supplementing gardens with Pure UV lamps, it is best to begin with the lamp placed further away from the plants and to run it for shorter periods)))))

I prefer it in my grow room for two reasons, to sterilize the grow area of mold spores and such, and to help rid the area of pests.
I swear the first time I noticed the benefits of uv in a grow area was when I purchased an Osram Zelion HL fixture... The UV in that light is extremely powerful and the fungus gnat problem that I was encountering at the time was absent in the tent with the Osram Zelion. The gnats hated that intense uv spectrum almost as much as my eyes did. I must add that I had four tents full of plants growing at the time...

You will not lose CBD. CBG turns into THCa or CBDa and primarily genetics will be deciding how much cannabinoid percentage results in a particular strain although some outside influences can better or worse the condition. CBD is also formed much earlier than THC they have found in studies of CBD is present even in vegetative growth. So UV light should not have the effect of diminishing CBD for the increase of THC. UV light should result in a increase in both cannabinoids. If any at all. Also they used same plants.. So was it a cut or by seed if by seed then no control. We know a lot more about cannabis now then in 1988 I'm also finding the THC percentage hard to believe way back then when we barely have 32 percenters now.

Some good info..and thanks for being brave enuff to do this... one thing tho you cant sacrifice cbd for thc...thats already predetermined by the genetics..you can only max out the plant to wat ever its genetics allowe be that its maximum thc and cbd..but you cant lower cbd if you up thc..you can alter the outcome of the ratios but ther will always be a maximum amount preprogramed already in the plant...but if I had perfectly replicated the environment to get near enuff the best I could out of a plant and for example I got a ratio of 15% thc and 5% cbd by me further bettering that environment to its peak and upping the uv light content, yes I might be able to max out my thc to the predetermined genetic peak , which in this example was say 20%..so we would get a plant that was now producing 20%thc but the cbd would not lower and would still remain at its predetermined max wich in our example was 5% and it would stay at 5%. I hope you was able to understand wat im saying..I just wanted you to be able to give the best info..as you aways do...thanks

I had already grown og18 under hps and under blurple leds without uvb supplement. I push the og18 to 84 days flower for best smell and complex effect. Basically with the uvb supplement a bong hit of 0.12g would affect me intensely for 6 hours, VS standard bong hits of 0.2g of other strains would affect me intensely for 10-90 minutes... Also 1 friend got a psychosis from a bong hit and most friends (daily stoner!) thought they needed to go to hospital. I measured a consistent increase in my bpm from approx 60 to 110 for 5-20 minutes after a bong hit. I know it's very subjective but in my experience the difference in complexity/depth of taste and effect was incredible. 0.5g would last me a day, compared to anything else where I would make 5g disappear in a day... Also: with uvb the og18 effect seemed to have no ceiling (I had some fun and wierd experiences trying to find that ceiling - an I'm the type that takes a fat dab before/for breakfast). After spending 10 years trying to find bud with a comparable taste/effect I gave up as nothing comes close... So I started a garden again and just got the migro310 this week! Will report back in 2-3 months if it made my current day 35f Bubba kush 'express itself'/'release its poison' :) BTW my og18 grown under uvb I could smell 1g from 100meters no joke. My current non-uvb flowers I need to stick my nose in the bag to get some smell LOL (yes I harvest late and dry slow and cure to 62% etc)
