    Spent the first 20 years of my life in Glasgow. Nostalgic for it but you couldnt pay me to live there again.

      I've travelled to many places, my fav city Rome. But loved my days growing up in Springburn and working in the Balmore, then moving to Possil before moving on.
      The tougher the area the kinder and more protective the people were to each other.
      Wild West though when a stranger walked into *any* local. For what seemed like forever behind that bar, the silence was deafening.

      Springburn lassie, started working in the Balmore '82 when Big Mick from Donegal ran it. Learned my job from my mum + aunt, but from the K sisters + C their sis-in-law. Smart as whips with hearts of gold these 3 women 🌟
      My late-mum took over when Mick died. My fav job. Finish our late shifts jump into the Brothers.
      I left about 97.
      Your granny called Jean, I could be wrong? If so my cheeky beloved wee auntie still worked there when she took over.

    Joe & Michael McHugh, good but firm guys. They knew how to run a pub, and as a few people have commented it was not overly common to have Celtic & Rangers supporters drinking in the same bar. They also ran The Morven in Springburn area for a while, another pub that could tell a few stories.

    • @Jan_Mac
      @Jan_Mac 20 днів тому

      Weird but true.
      Springburn raised & worked in Possil's Balmore Bar.
      The really bad pub trouble started in the 90s exactly when 90% of smack (used as a WMD) from Afghanistan and Pakistan flooded Western cities.
      'Let *them* pay *us* to kill them.'

    Like most of the Pubs back in the 60's 70's & 80's a lot of them were pretty friendly warm places so I'm often told
    Social cleansing together with social problems has changed this forever, The Brothers is definitely a different establishment now as you all know in comparison to the days when the likes of Scheme were packing the place out.
    Ha Ha - The Mad McUrine's advert, a secondary school memory, just before the Chinheads popped up!

    I like how Yer Man says Poe sull park. It's true name. I still cringe when folk refer to the area as Poe Sull. Naturally, Poh sill park would be the proper phonetic, but still nice to hear the word park at the end of the name.
