Having worked in and around Glasgow I can honestly say that Glasgow and the west coast of Scotland are very giving and helpful people, if you are open and truthful you are welcomed into the community with friendliness, now I’m retired I can’t wait for this Covid to be under control and my wife and I can return and holiday in Glasgow and tour the west coast again

"They will never take my dignity from me" 20 years later same man is on Furlough and awaiting instructions when he can and can't leave the house‼️

Sad to read several negative comments. I have lived and worked in Glasgow and I have the greatest respect for Glaswegians. Glasgow, the Clyde and beyond has gone through enormous changes and as this BBC piece shows the people are resilient, real and brave. The people of Glasgow are the heart of the place and it's true treasure. To survive and prosper with dignity is an honourable thing worthy of respect. Glasgow is transformed as corporations have grown rich outsourcing jobs to robots and abroad. No trickle down economics here. It is not immigration that has brought about such change. Ironic that Scots as immigrants themselves for hundreds of years have made other countries stronger (Canada for one example). Glasgow Smiles better 😀

I grew up in Govan in the 50s . I worked on the river in the 60s & travelled the world thereafter I can identify with the men's lives in the video. Govan has an undeserved bad name . Many good men came out from there.

Perhaps they could have interviewed a wife who was affected by loss of shipyard jobs and asked how much tougher it can be trying to keep the family going when your husband spends much needed money in the pub, and doesn’t recognise all the other ways a man can support his family besides financial. Pity parties fix nothing. Glad he got his life back but a lot of years and a relationship wasted.
