He needed someone for a duet, and they suggested KD, not well known and country at that time. Once he heard her he said yes! There is a UA-cam video of them performing together we’re right before she hits the power mode he gets this huge smile. He loved her voice! This collaboration propelled her forward!
A movie was being made and they approached Roy about doing a duet of 'Crying'. He initially said no, didn't think it should be a duet. They sent him a tape of k.d. lang singing "Two Cigarettes", a cover of Patsy Cline, and he agreed. Liked her voice, and thought even if it wasn't great, it couldn't hurt the original. Absolute torch and twang came out in 1989. Constant craving was a hit in 1992 and is an amazing song. Miss Chatelaine is another. For fun, Big boned girl from southern Alberta.

Listen to her album "Ingenue" Great from beginning to end. I believe she also won the Grammy for Best New Artist. Many wonderful memories of listening to her glorious voice. 😊 🎶
I am not sure if this is the correct way to do a request. A song I have always loved since intro in 81 is “Time” by The Allen Parsons Project . This is a song that can bring me to tears each time I listen. You may already know this song.
Before this Orbison tribute, k.d. lang had been on the Country western music scene for 5 years. With 4 studio albums in her corral, she and her band, "the Reclines", introduced a new genre of country music called "cowpunk". From the start she was visual performance artist. k.d. was highly influenced by C&W legend Patsy Cline. k.d. pulls a lot of her inspiration from Cline and 2nd album, Angel with a Lariat, covered Patsy's signature song Three Cigarettes in the Ashtray" which she performed on the Tonight Show in 1985. Viewer response was so overwhelming, she was invited back the next night by Johnny Carson, the show's legendary host. ❤
The audience was full of entertainers, artists, singers, bands, etc. She got a FOUR-minute standing ovation. I don't know vocal expertise, but her voice has so much depth. She has the power and controls her vocals SO well. I love her styling and the little "yodel" point she has in her voice, or the growl she used once. WOW *Suggestion: her hit song "Constant Craving" and Hallelujah are two great songs to hear. TY for your positive reaction !
I remember seeing k.d. lang when she first burst on the Canadian music scene. She was county. She wore a cowboy vest and skirt with frills and of course had boots on. She would jump around the stage, kicking her legs up or stomping her feet. A ball of energy that demanded your attention. She made it impossible for you to look anywhere else. That was in 1987/88 She did a couple of more albums in that mode and hen her musical interest went into another direction. When she sang this song, 'Crying', with Roy Orbison on The Tonight Show, she was introduced, to the American people, as a self-described 'torch and twang' singer. In some ways, she has come along way from the torch and twang days, but in other ways she still inserts a little twang, from time to time, and the emotion she conveys, exudes from her whole being, as the words come from her soul to our ears, in beautiful clear tones.
Our Canadian powerhouse vocalist. One of the best on the planet.
Johnny Carson’s favourite.

I'm from Alberta....I love KD LANG...especially her country albums
Thanks, Nick - KD is virtually the female incarnation of Roy... she is stunning... and has many other great songs... appreciate your reaction!
Absolute torch and twang came out in 1989. Constant craving was a hit in 1992 and is an amazing song. Miss Chatelaine is another. For fun, Big boned girl from southern Alberta.
I love Big Boned Gal!
Amazing! Everything she does gives me goosebumps and goes to my heart.
Best response yet!!! ❤
KD is truly magnificent 💙
In my whole life Roy Orbison’s Crying is my favorite song. Ever.
Whoa, whoa! That was what made her a star in the USA. She’d been a star here in Canada for a long time before this! 😊❤
Many things to love about the phenomenal KD...what stands out to me is the originality of each performance. There are all different and so brilliantly crafted.
An emotional ride of sadness from lyric, and joy from K.D.
K.D. is an icon! Her performance of The Valley is stunning as well!
KD! and yes check out Hallelujah, both are amazing performances
She's been around a long time she used to sing country music
In the style of Patsy Cline. Hence her band name: kd lang and the Reclines. 🙂
You should check out her performance at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Epic!
Listen to her album "Ingenue" Great from beginning to end. I believe she also won the Grammy for Best New Artist. Many wonderful memories of listening to her glorious voice. 😊 🎶
I loved watching your reaction to this incredible cover by KD Lang. her vocals are effortless and filled with heart and soul.
I am not sure if this is the correct way to do a request. A song I have always loved since intro in 81 is “Time” by The Allen Parsons Project . This is a song that can bring me to tears each time I listen. You may already know this song.
I am grateful that your reaction was in line with KD Langs INCREDIBLE performance! Thank you!
I love her version of this song so much and I love your authentic, heartfelt reaction.
She has performed at both the Calgary and Vancouver Olympics
I was lucky enough to see her live at a small theater. She's fantastic!! 🌹
Yes Hallelujah live version is a must !
You should Rebekah Del Rio do this song in Spanish and acapello from movie Mullholand Drive
No auto-tune! Pure talent! Wow!
Incredible vocal performance!
She is so good. I love her voice and her personality. Canada can be proud!
She always gives me goosebumps and I always end up with tears running down my face. And I've been listening to her since 1984.
