I bought this exact model, it’s been fantastic so far!! Had an 05 le corolla, a 2015 corolla s, and now this and it’s a great step up!
Thanks for sharing that great ownership experience!
How is the nightshade treating you? I'm planning to get it in a couple month. I really love the color and the new rims.
@@IsAJustMeOrli it’s a great car! Being se trim doesn’t make to many sacrifices, plus there’s solutions to get some of those sxe features
How’s merging on the highway?
@@antp8462 daily driving on i5 it’s not been an issue, however people are going to be passing. Definitely has made my driving more conservative. utilizing the automatic braking and adaptive cruise control freeway driving is usually very nice even in traffic
My favorite teacher is at it again! The one of who lets us play with cars and let’s us eat sweets in the class room!
They SHOULD offer the hybrid powertrain on the hatchback too, not just on the sedan. That said, I'd buy this over the Civic, like the style.
If they offered an AWD hybrid hatch I’d order rn
@@ryanallen4076 That's easy with the hybrid; they just add another electric motor to drive the rear wheels. Excellent choice!
Imagine next year Toyota adds the Camry XSE hybrid motor... Oh man It'll sell all over.
Here in UK we get the hatchback in hybrid form, in fact all Toyotas here are either hybrid or all electric. I wonder why not in USA...
6 speed offered in UK?
Just bought this car as a non blacked out version and have put 1000 miles on it. I think it was a great value as the honda dealer in my area (southwest Chicagoland) was still marking up all their cars with 1-2k "market adjustments". It is too slow for me but every day i drive it the fuel economy is improving. 28 highway untill i hit around 1k miles. Currently getting 35 highway at 1050 miles. Has a premium feel to it with the soft touch, which i appreciate. My biggest zonks are slow acceleration getting on the interstate on ramps and the small minimal cargo area in the back with the rear seats up.
This car is for little people that weigh under 150 pounds
I considered this, the Mazda 3, and Civic hatch 3 years ago and chose the Civic. I felt all 3 were great cars, but the Corolla and the 3 were just too small. I recently upgraded to a 2024 Civic EX-L and feel this is easily the best of the three. I still have the utility, the great mpg, the interior is amazing, and it’s fun to drive. Great review as always.
Why not the Accord, 4 door, better interior, super close in price. More style than Civic.
There should be a Honda Civic in a TRUE hatchback.......Too bad VW has gone crazy on GTI pricing plus poor quality.
I’m zonking this one for no fog lights! It’s the SE edition. ( sport edition) Sport editions should have fog lights.
I've got my eye on a 2024 XSE hatchback. For the money you get that legendary Toyota reliability and tons of features. It's difficult to beat this car at that price point.
30k plus for a corolla is horrible. They are not the cars they use to be either. Far superior cars for that price.
mikie, Corollas are no longer basic cheap econoboxes. They're premium fun to drive vehicles and yes a fully loaded top trim Corolla is worth 30k!
@@mikie1466 what would you get instead ? manual transmission ?
The Corolla is a great all around vehicle. It would be great to have a mid level Corolla to compete with the si.
@@Grrrolayou know nothing
The big grille on the front reminds me of a guppy. I went for a Civic hatchback.
Like the way interrogated the black from the roof to the gray Exterior .On The inside.. l feel the civic is better . And it needs a manual
Integrated
Great presentation but its the dealerships that cause problems in buying one. Toyota cars are great but the dealerships are very rude.
To answer the title, no unless all you care about is the initial cost. The civic is actually comfortable for all riders and the trunk is really large. Also the 1.5t gets amazing gas mileage
1.5 engine is pure trash
The initial cost is everything in this segment.
Love the color combo on this Corolla hatchback!
Hear me out, I really really wanted a GR Corolla but because of the dealer markups I just couldn’t justify it. I could have gone for an SE or XSE but I still craved a turbocharged hot hatch, so I settled for a fiesta ST. Still 4 doors, but smaller and more nimble. I don’t regret my choice. But I do love Toyota so much. I do work for Toyota after all.
Unfortunately there are no new fiesta STs being made and the used ones get older and older every day with higher and higher mileage
🤣
Joe and Lori and keep up the good work and I love the video real true 👍
Yes , my grandpa would be happy in this car 😊😊😊
Nice rims but thin tires, can you change the tires w/ a little bit thicker?
Strongly considered this, but compared to the Civic hatch which I went for, this is cramped, felt cheaper, lacked features, and didn’t drive as well. There’s a reason the Civic usually wins comparison tests and don’t regret my choice one bit. 👍🏼
Civic wins only in youtube tests without considering prices, in Canada a Civic Sport Touring hatch is more than $7000 more expensive than a comparably Corolla XSE hatch...
In the UK, the civic is significantly more expensive , almost £4000 more
When someone says they would rather have a Civic, for 4k more why not the Accord? It's a much better car, so instead they compare down to Corolla. It's like a Ranger guy talking about his choice in truck better than the Maverick when a F150 is much better for close in price.
@naushad5139 what’s the point of the Corolla “looking” like a hatchback if it doesn’t have the room and capability of one 🫢
@@TheCookieCrisp Your comment does not make sense. Civic and Corolla are in the same class so it’s right to compare them. For the same money I paid for my loaded Civic Hatch Touring, that would get me a lower end Accord with less features. I don’t need or want a bigger car.
If Toyota could give us the wagon variant of the Corolla, that'd be great.
I wish they would of kept the stick shift
What TF does that even mean??
@@user-vx9jy7jl2lManual gear
Take rate was too low to continue it on regular models. Only the specialty GR makes it standard now.
@@user-vx9jy7jl2l manual transmission u damn fool
I got a 6MT in 2022, new silver SE (even got 1.9% rate 🫣)
But it drives so good this car is tons of fun. No rev hang at all on rev outs almost feels like a video game engine shift. Handles like a knife.
Also compared to the civic hatch which seems to be getting some praise here, this one is MADE IN JAPAN. To me that is just more special. S/O to the Mazda 3 hatch which is also made in Japan.
a badass hatch my fav
Both cars are great ! It’s a matter of what you want/ like
Not for me as I'm not a fan of small cars but I do like the two tone paint as it is eye catching and for its price it will probably be a good on sales. I know some people like small cars but for me I would probably get a 2024 Trax SUV over this for its larger size and about the same price.
i think they dropped the ball with removing the manual transmission from the se/xse. I have a 2019 xse 6 speed and its an absolute blast to drive. definitely something toyota shouldve continued to offer.
Yup they did big time, which is why I'm going to Mazda this weekend to test drive the 6-speed manual hatchback Mazda 3.
I like your videos. And the Corolla Hatch is top of my shopping list
I appreciate your support!
This is badly overdue for a redesign. Civic is eating its lunch. It hasn't even really had a refresh.
Civic looks ugly though
@@melxbnope
@@bradIeyscarreviews yep...i mean the sedan version isn't bad depending on color combo, although looks a bit too american muscle car like, but man are the hatchback versions hideous, especially from the side profile, total mismatch with the long front, corolla just has a more visually pleasing design and reminds of the great japanese hatchback designs of past while still looking modern...the new prelude now that's where honda got it right, looks sick af
I just spit food out of my mouth due to laughter at the munchkin part hahaha
Toyota Corolla lasts forever. I bought one brand new and drove it for 20 years
That was before cvts and post covid quality.
I can sit behind myself in this car. I dont drive with the seat all the way back. I'm short at 5"11 and sit comfy and have space. I had to test drive it to make sure.
Never understood why people sit all the way back.
Need me an all black one. These look so fun to rip around
Liked, subscribed, of course. No MT stopped watching there. Thanks for reviewing these, I always appreciate your efforts, research, and LGR's cam skills. Such a great channel.
I think Toyota should make the backseat slant back like the way the Rav4 is. That one it gives you more space.
I have a 2019, OMG I love the wheels. Wonder if the 2024 has more power than the 2019. Don't get me wrong I love my car so much but wish it had a little more pep getting on the highways. I have had 4 Toyotas and never had a major issue with any of them (I am diligent about maintenance). My next car will be the Corolla Cross because of the AWD. I live in NH and wish I had it again.
Amazing review Joe.
Would be awesome if the could paint the car that same copper color with the blacked out roof and accents and a two door
Now we are talking!
No more manuals? Just CVT?
Gorgeous hatchback, but no manual come on Toyota you better rethink that
is this also in AWD?
The GR corolla is the only with awd
Very cool looking! Don't like the grille. Probably hard to clean.
Nice looking-though I think they’re trying too hard with some of the details-but the CVT is an absolute deal breaker.
The reason the corolla feels a bit outdated is because 2024 should've been the year for the next 13th gen corolla, I'm hoping if they push out the next gen to 2025 that they also do the same with the GRC '25 and not do the same thing as Subaru splitting the WRX and Impreza generation cycle mismatch
"8-9 midgets" in the door panel would have gotten you zonked for sure 🤣
Yeah, Of course Joe.
I pick mine up in the morning (Monday).
Now that will be exciting!
I just wish they still had manual transmission for the non GR. Super sad about that, but this is probably going to be my first car in the next few months!
It would be perfect for me but I don’t know why the tires seem so slim.
Honestly Joe, if Toyota put the XSE front bumper on the hatchback I think it would look better
The only thing the corolla has over the civic is the fact that it has a hybrid option and better longevity and cheaper to own than the civic.
Other than that its oure cons from there onwards. Smaller interior space. The feeling of cheap plastic surrounds you in the corolla you dont feel that in the civic since the 10th generation civic.
Now the only reason i would even consider the corolla would be the hybrid version. Otherwise it'll always be the Civic touring as the ideal Eventually the civic touring will be available in the hybrid version in North America which i am really looking to
I want one of these Nightshades for my daughter. In this color too. & yes zonk the exhaust.
I'm gonna zonk the SE. Get the XSE, better seats and powered.
This car needs a redesign
my man likes his blacked-out badges! definitely ads +50 hp. 😆
I do like that this version has two USB-Cs in the back on the center stack. I just rented a base Corolla sedan, no frills, and it only had the one USB-C up front, none in the back. Since I listen to my music either on cd (yes, my car has a cd player) or memory stick, if memory stick is plugged in there wasnt a place to also charge phone, with the rental Corolla.
U can get a USB to USB c cable for $9.99 at best buy, but yeah it is kinda cool they include it
Bring the wagon to the States!
Bought a Kia Forte instead because it had a 6 Speed and it was cheaper. Still a Toyota fanboy though, I also own a 21 RAV4, love both cars.
Are there brackets for a front license plate? I live in a state where 2 plated are required. I was stopped for no front plate and showed the officer there was nowhere to attach it. He said that neither of us can change the world and let me go.
only thing that stands out as bad to me is the plastic triangles by the mirrors. i did mine in carbon fiber.
Absolutely Good Video.
Toyota desperately needs to merge the Prius styling team with the Corolla design staff.
I bought a 2024 Nightshade, White Pearl drop.
That is wonderfull!
I like it when I still sticking to the Honda Civic hatchback
We have the XSE trim and are enjoying it.
That is so fantastic to hear Steve.
Those wheels look great!
Toyota must be nervous about the Civic hybrid coming out next year. More power and better mpg.
Like everything but the cvt
Very reliable car. Slow as molasses in winter...flowing uphill. lol
Maybe my next car 🤔🤔🤔 good looking, solid cat!!!!
I'm interested to see the Hatchback XSE Joe! I've been waiting for the Civic Hatch Hybrid, but that's not coming out until next year.
Manual transmission and fog lights would be great still a good looking ride
Bring back a xrs trim or a gr sport edition with a little more power and performance goodies. Maybe a small turbo to compete against the Elantra NLine or civic Si...and nice dual exhaust with a little sound, front bumper and side trim from the apex sedan, manual transmission preferably shorter gearing
Joe and his hatred of gloss black 🙄
The Civic HB comes with a manual transmission, which is why I prefer it.
Good call!
Joe, isn't this car the 'Nightshade' trim, not the SE trim?
@4:28 the badging clearly says, SE.
Toyota really seems to have their act together. This car looks very compelling at this price with these features.
I love this car. I have a fir and going to get a new one of theseeeeee!!!!!!
Toyota should come out with a civic si competetor
Im buying one Mr. Rati. Thanks Laurie.
sweet hatchback and color!!
thankful for this guy
Thanks for saying that!
Nice! I’d probably opt for AWD Mazda CX30, then do a stage 1 tune 😉😂
Do Corolla have sunroof?
White stitching on the steering wheel would show dirt much more easily.
This is true unless you are a car person and clean your wheel.
Please bring a hybrid hatch to Canada, Toyota!
Does the Honda offer the civic in a hatchback?
I would still prefer an NA 2.0l over a a turbo 1.5l

Don't be silly, keep the spare tire.
I agree with you!

Now compare that to a 2024 C-HR. Oh, that's right Toyota NA FARKED the USDM and stopped shipping them. Too bad, it looks great and even looks like it performs better than what we had.
I went to high school in a silver grey corrolla in Africa.
2024 Toyota Corolla Hatchback SE FWD Bronze Nightshade Special Edition!
Had the 2023 xse and traded it in. Absolutely LOVED the style but the mpg wasn't even close to what was advertised. Not only that, the heated seats were trash. Didn't get hot at all. And the charge pad didn't work at all. Wanted to love the car but for the price wasn't worth the headache.
Really? I am considering this car because of the mpg. I like the style and size. I hear it has a cheap feel but didn't want to believe it.
@@ericcarson342 yeah was extremely disappointed I wanted to love it but was extremely relieved when I hit a deer with it lol
@@ericcarson342the car has to be broken in first before it performa at its optimal

I’ll take Corolla! Toyota didn’t even have to redesign it because this design is timeless much better looking than the civic.
ROFL... that sandpaper technique.... Well, even after that, I think this is a good car to buy.
Why would you have low profile tires on a 169 hp compact?
To squeeze more money out of us
$35K used to be a limited version of SUV. Now, you get a plain vanilla.
I wish they have awd for Canada
I can live with a crappy CVT but I can not accept the claustrophobic rear leg room. Toyota has had several years to fix this flaw and every year I'm left disappointed.
I bought my 2020 Honda fit before covid19, for only 19k outta door.
Right mow it has only 26k miles, man I love it.
This corrolla is so nice but 26k plus high interest rate, it sounds better compare to others.
I am so happy I bought my car before inflation lol. Almost pay off lol
Your Fit has more cargo space than this Corolla hatchback! Congrats on buying at the right time! Now maintain that Fit well and keep it for the next 20 years!
