Before this tutorial I was pretty sure that tool is there to make people panic for a little bit until they figure out how to close it. Now I’m going to try it out on a futuristic 🌆:3
Thank you for mentioning the hotkeys used to switch what side you're using of the perspective grid. I've scoured the internet looking for answers on how to bring back the hud box that helps you select what side you want to use. Appreciate it.
You sound like the sweetest person ever! Your video was very well done, clear, and relatable. I liked it when you said, "oops!" I say that all the time too! Great job :)
Brilliant tutorial. FYI I spent about 30 minutes trying to figure out how to show the grid tool in the tool bar. To show the grid tool go to Window > Tool Bars > Advance (change from Basic to Advanced). Illustrator version on 5/22/2023
Is it the shift tool on Mac also? Or is it an other key to press? The image does not turn into perspective when I press the shift key and try to move the image I select and move it into the perspective box.. I move it around, but nothing happens...
@@missxspencer1538 Make sure you have the perspective grid selection tool, I was having trouble with that too. My problem right now, is trying to get my grid art to resize to the perspective grid side that I want it on. It's not working for me.
This was a good tutorial. I struggled with the not-so-intuitive nature of this tool. I still am having some difficulty in properly controlling the EFFECT of 2 point perspective - in that at times the desired perspective effect is not for it to be so extreme but way more subtle. Adjusting the parameters of the grid to be less dramatic in its effect are not as easily achieved; rather, it requires a lot of trial and error to get the effect just right. I will scour the UA-cam universe further to find videos that delve a bit deeper into adjustments for different perspective effects.
SPENT a day going thought some Illustrator Perspective Grid videos. Here the strength is in applying a checker board to the grid. Nice. Too bad you did not think of looking at Vermeer. He applies checkerboards to the floor in paintings that are mostly 1-point perspective.
Thank you. I need to practice it. One question. Say if I am doing a building, how do I know if the windows will fit the building from one end to the other?
Thank you very much for this video! I’m taking an illustration course in college right now and I definitely felt lost until I stumbled upon this! What perspective is best used for a character model in between some buildings? I’m going to test it out but I figured I’d ask
sorry, i am trying to grab the graphic as you say but the perspective selection tool does not grab my graphic, i suppose because it's not an AI made but a png. is there a way to make it work with a png or jpeg if you please?
Does anyone here know if it's possible to place one object on multiple planes at the same time? For example, say I wanted to place a star-shaped object on the corner of a 2 or 3 point perspective grid. Do I have to split the object and place each piece on each plane, or is there a way to place the object and attach it to both the left and right planes simultaneously (in other words, Illustrator does the work of wrapping the object around the corner)?
omg thank you... I've accidentally hit this hot key but never bothered to learn to use it... oh how i've been missing out. Thank you Erin

If you select the perspective grid tool (shift+P), you can move it around by moving the line at the very base of the grid :)
Literally why I come to the video thankyou !!!!
You just saved my life, thank you!

I have the same issue on the Mac - did you find a alternative to the shift key to have the same effect on a mac?
Thank you Erin! This is such a game changer :D
This helped me a lot, thank you :)
I can't drag the graphic to the perspective grid :( I'm pressing shift as u told but it simply doesn't do anything besides showing that arrow

You are very welcome :)
Thank you so much for making it simply understandable.🙂

Thank you, this was so helpful with my current brief!
Oh good!
Thank you so much.
Thanks so much for this!
Hello. Great video. How can we make this pattern but to create an sphere. Do we need 3-point perspective? Thanks.
Thanks Erin! :D

Woah, how’d you copy the other squares at the same distance so quickly? @ 4:38
Some searching led me to Cmd/Ctl-D ! I wish I had learned this so much sooner.
Thank you mam for creating this video !!!!
You are very welcome!
Thanks! Great tutorial, helped me a lot :)
Yay! You are welcome!
Thanks for your help or hard work
You are very welcome!
Thank you :)
6:00 you skipped about 5 steps after this part. You will not be able to select the checkerboard without doing the 7 steps!
Thanks!!!
How do you create a triangular prism
great teaching
Thank you!!
but to how make 3 point perspective
Good clear tutoring. Thanks!
You are so awesome!!!!!
Thanks mem❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Nice VidEo
Thank you...
Cool
Thank you. I need to practice it. One question. Say if I am doing a building, how do I know if the windows will fit the building from one end to the other?
I also love your voice
what is the shortcut/hot key that you used to multiple the black square proportionally for the top row?
Drag the object with shift+alt+command and then command +D
Thank you for the video! Do you know how to do this for line graphs made on Illustrator? I cant figure out how
Thank you
Do I do this as well if I want to make a floor design and use it as the floor?!
How can I design the inside off a box? How can i put pictures on the back wall?
Thank you very much for this video! I’m taking an illustration course in college right now and I definitely felt lost until I stumbled upon this! What perspective is best used for a character model in between some buildings? I’m going to test it out but I figured I’d ask
take it to the other art board dear.. that was what I wanted..How do I move the perspective grid to my preferred artboard
Is this tool can be consider using Artificial intelligent based algorithms
how do you change where the vanishing point lies?
is there a way to move it around?
Yes, click and drag either of the bottom corner nodes!
can the perspective grid be rotated?
1:40 thank for help :)
How do you connect 2 shape with outline in a 1 point perspective perfectly?
What was the shortcut key you used to clone the squares
Alt+ clic hold down
@@1WillyDAVID Not that part, but how she duplicated the rest at the same distance with what sounded like a keyboard short cut at 4:38
Some searching led me to Cmd/Ctl-D ! I wish I had learned this so much sooner.
Interesting but how you place grid if you want hallway/corridor?
sorry, i am trying to grab the graphic as you say but the perspective selection tool does not grab my graphic, i suppose because it's not an AI made but a png. is there a way to make it work with a png or jpeg if you please?
Nope, it will only work with a vector object. You could use the trace tool and trace your jpeg in order to convert it to vector.
@@ErinGipfordFreelance cool thx!

This is a great question but I can’t answer it. I hope you find your answer though!
How to switch perspective to indoor? The center part looks far away & the side looks closer.
How to move perspective grid to other art board?
Thanks Madam Ji
but how make 3 point perspective.
How to reset???
what about the other perspective? this one is easy for me, i mean i can figure that out by just trial errors.
Perspective grid is the hardest tool to work with. They make it so complicated to use and bury the options.
❤❤
This thing would always scare me when it popped up
Valid!! 🤣
Thanks and susbscribed
Great to have you!
