As a beginner, this is the best shorter video I've seen on combining all of these tools together. Immensely helpful. Laying out all the modifiers & the status window I didn't even know ab was gold! Will probably rewatch a few times as I practice. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it, friend! Cheers!
PROBABLY THE BEST Video I've seen on this subject. I wish I saw this back in 2010.
Wish I was making these since 2010! Hehehe. Thanks!
This is the best explanation of pen tool i have ever seen on youtube. Thanks Andy
Illustrator is known to be the toughest program in the Adobe creative suite to master. I run a commercial printing house and every year we get college trainees that majors Communication Arts at our firm but all of them struggle with this program. They know the basics but when it comes to something more indepth like tracing pictures, all of them struggle pretty badly. This goes to show that Illustrator can only be mastered with practice.and daily use, you cant really teach them in classes.
While I agree with most of what you said, I'm not sure about it being the thoughest to master. After Effects feels way more complex and with so much more things to learn. I mean, you can even "code" in AE with expressions :)
@@AndyTellsThingsman he's tweaking 🤦🏿♂️ After effects is a juggernaut just by itself then you combine it with all the bells and whistles that you can add on to it you can have over 10 years of use and still barley scratch the service of everything it does. I just don't like how much power it takes to get it running smoothly you can have first rate hardware and it still lags
Millennials are lazy which is why many don’t know how to use the pen tool well.
Just starting, enjoying very much
@@AndyTellsThingsI understood after effects much more easier than I am still trying to wrap my head around Illustrator. As a pencil artist I find the use of Pentool quite easy but illustrator is just a boring place to be that's why I think a lot of people struggle with it..... After effects is much fun and much more interactive
I've watch a lot of videos and this is hands down the best. You got right to the point with clear instructions making the pen and complimentary tools easy to understand and use. The video was also very well done and engaging. I really appreciate you not having the long introduction of useless information.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks :)
that's the best pen tool tutorial I've found on youtube, congratulations and thank you!
The video animation and sound are so well done and gives the video a more nice vibe
This is the best tutorial I've seen on working with the pen tool!!
Before I watched this video, I always struggled to alter shapes with handles the way I intend but this tutorial makes it really clear, Great video
Very nice to hear that! Keep on, friend! Thanks!
Very helpful! I just started learning illustrator. Love that you made all points so clear with those painstaking exercises.
Glad it was helpful!
How are your videos so underrated. Love the work u put into these...
Incredibly useful information. Thank you so much!
omg the "breaking handles" part is just what i needed! thanks
Glad it helped! :)
7:19 Like the way the design is created smoothly. This is satisfaction.
I just started using Illustrator and I am so excited after this video. Thank you so much for such an informative and easy tutorial.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Quick, easy and fun to learn! Thankyou for sharing your knowledge!
You're welcome, friend!
i think this is the best short video for beginners. do more videos for the other tools too.
Thank you so much for the explanation! I'm new to this and spent hours taking notes while watching the videos and practicing. Your clear and detailed working logic makes every piece of information valuable and very stimulating to creativity.
Regarding removing anchor points, in my practice I found that this cannot remove the anchor point closest to the curve arc (otherwise it would still change the whole path), however, it is very effective to remove only the anchor points that are not decisive. I hope this information is helpful to those who watch the video.
Thanks, Andy!🙌🙌🙌
Yes, like I said in the video, Illustrator will try to maintain the path as close as possible to the original, but obviously if you don't have many anchor points, that won't be possible. Thanks for commenting!
I really really really needed to know about how to exit the pen tool. Thank you!
Such a great and concise video! Thank you for your work!
Glad it was helpful!
I have a project in my design class which I needed to use illustrator for. I've never touched the app, so this could literally not be any more helpful. Thank you greatly for this gem of a tutorial.
You're very welcome! :)
Thank you so much for the video! Objective and direct, awesome for beginners as me.
You're very welcome!

Glad you liked it, Rachele! :)
Thank you. It was very useful. Now to practice as I did making a short with After Effects. One observation though. For some of us who went to the dark side of Macs and never look back. I have to use Command Key not Control. And Alt is Option 😉
Great tutorial.
Thank you so clear and simple
You're welcome! Thanks!

Simply Intelligent 🙌🏿
I don't comment on videos but this one is like dying of thirst in the desert and then being transported into an oasis! I was so frustrated with AI and none of the tutorials provided that level of simplicity. Edit 10/10 Voice 10/10 Content 10/10 *chef's kiss*
Hey, thanks for such nice words. Glad you enjoyed!

Andy, you've got a talent of a Teacher! I've been trying to learn Illustrator for so many years....yet I was annoyed because I couldn't put my Photoshop skills into Illustrator... You made everything so easy to understand!
I'm glad you managed to get into Illustrator, my friend. Keep on!
@@AndyTellsThings have u already taclked or have knowldge on importing illustrtator files to other adobe apps such as After Effects_
@@jirehla-ab1671 what do you want to know, specifically?
@@AndyTellsThings workflow when importing illutrator into adobe after effects like an illlustration , that still allows me to manipulate them in AE
@@jirehla-ab1671 there's a few things to be aware of, but I guess the most important is that every object should be in a separate layer. You can go to the Layers Panel, select the layer with all the objects, then go to the sandwich menu of the panel and click on "Release to Layers (Sequence)". This will place every object/group on its own layer, but these layers will still be inside the original layer. Just select all of them and move out of the original layer. Then, save the .ai file and make sure to check "Create PDF Compatible File". I guess that's it. Fonts won't ever be editable and images won't even import to AE.
This channel will be massive! I need the exercises file 😢
thank you gentle man
You're welcome!
Awesone video :)

Why did the discord server get shut down?? I was excited to join this!
You dont post anymore, but this was an awesome tut.
I still post.
hello, I just wanna say that you have the best tuturials. always informative and clear.
I have been struggling with something I hope you or anybody else can help. I am not a graphic designer but I use illustrator for my 3d work. the problem is whenever I am working I accidentally switch the text input to Arabic (without using Alt+Shift) I don't know why and I struggle to Fix it. not: I don't want to cancel Arabic as I use it sometimes but I don't want to switch unintentionally or and easy way to get back to english.
I hope you can help or do a tutorial on the subject.
cheers
That's really odd, but I remember having something similar in the past. Tho, for me it was the Alt+Shift problem. Have you double checked the shortcut for swithing languages on Windows?
@@AndyTellsThings hello. thanks for your answer and your time. yes my m
win shortcut for Languages is Alt+Shift.
this is driving me crazy!
In anyway, love your tutorials, keep em comin...
@@fadisoueidi4127 hey man I'm pretty sure you can change the windows shortcut for changing languages, give it a Google and I'm sure you'll find the answer :) thanks for the kind words! Keep on!
@@AndyTellsThings thank you. have a nice day 🙏
Just wondering how do you make these videos? Pretty effective in teaching-learning process.
It's kind of a long process, not gonna lie hahaha. At least 50% of the creation process is just writing the scripts. It's a lot of alt-tabbing between Illustrator and Notion, trying to come up with the best video structure possible, trying to explain everything as clear as possible without hurting the pace too much, stuff like that. Honestly, that makes like 80% of the video quality alone. Then I record the voiceover, cut and edit the audio on Audition, do a lot of screen recording with OBS, create the video project on Premiere (voiceover, screen recordings, animations, music, sound fx, etc). When it's needed I do some animations and motion graphics on After Effects. And that's about it! But I guarantee you that the writing process and the care I try to put on the script is what takes the video to a higher quality. And that's not to brag or anything hahahaha but this really is a video I think was really well written, took me quite a lot of hours.
Greaat🔥🔥🔥
Thanks!!
Very nice tutuorials. where can i get the exercise files please ?
Hello! Exercise files are available for Patreon supporters: www.patreon.com/andytellsthings
This may sound strange, but it's such a pleasure to use illustrator after autocad
I can only imagine :P
3:42 Where where did you get the notes?
They're just objects placed outside the artboard 😊
