Hi BAM animation dudes! So almost a a year ago when I first started watching your videos, I was in a slump because my foundation skills weren't that great. Watching videos like this really helped me a lot and I applied these tips to help enhance my portfolio. Last week I got my first freelance job from a studio and just wanted to say thanks for making very helpful videos like this one! I just finished taking a perspective class, so it was nice to see how you applied these tools as well. So to anyone else that is reading this comment, practice these skills , it is very helpful!! Edit: Thanks for sending the love!
Really great to see a perspective video, so many people jump in and draw art/background without being able to block out basic shapes in perspective which hurts them greatly. Also I recommend toonboom harmony/storyboard as they both now have perspective tools that you can snap your cursor too, as well as clip studio paint which also has native perspective tools. If you only work in photoshop you can also get lazy nezumi (paid plugin) which has built in perceptive tools as well. A few other perspective tips that could be covered in future videos: center of object by drawing an X from corner to corner (if you need something in the center). Scaling things in perspective (say a person up close scaled size wise into the background, or repeating objects). I highly recommend Perspective for comicbook artists by David Chelsea as well! Happy anniversary :D!
I remember watching this video for the first time when I was a sophomore struggling to learn how to draw... I'm currently in Digital Media Arts--our instructor posted this video to help us learn perspective (or give us some perspective LOL). I've been practicing art for many years and have done several exercises with perspective, but this video was a lot of fun to watch!
1:58 1. Click the shape tool 2. Change it to the "Polygon tool" 3. Edit properties of the Polygon tool 4. Change Path to Shape 5. Change it to no fill (White box with red line) 6. Change it to 1 point stroke (1px) 7. Click the settings cog 8. Change it to "Star" 9. Change "Indent Sides" by "99" 10. Change "Sides:" to "100" 11. Select horizon line and drag the shape
btw with the new photoshop update for creating the 1 point grid, you have to click the gear icon and then change the star ratio to 1%, everything else that they mentioned it the same though
Thank you so much for this, perspective has been the bane of my existence for the longest time. You have a great style of teaching, very easy to understand and follow.
As a non-digital artist, i am going to resort needles and string. Really though, this video has been amazing. I can remeber watching it a few years ago, but that was back when i only drew people. As of now, i am planning on starting a comic. it serves as both a fun hobby, and a good way to imrpove my art. so far, i have found backgrounds to be increasingly difficult. This video has helped, and im sure it will decrease my pain greatly.

I've always wondered how illustrators create such wonderful backgrounds and I think this pretty much answered everything. As someone who wasted money and time at art school, I learned more from this episode alone than... nm I'm depressed now.
I'm so glad I've found you guys, this video may have recovered my passion for drawings. Been stuck on perspective for years but this just clicked
3 semesters of expensive visual arts school couldn't teach me this
how have I missed this channel for so long
I'm an architecture student and even if I already know about the theory of perspective I found this lesson very useful 👍
I have my 1point perspective art homework due on wednesday
You literally posted right on time lol thankyou
I can’t believe this information is free, I feel almost guilty for not paying anything this is literally GOLD! Helping so many artist out there I’m a new fan of this channel!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I’ve been trying to push myself to draw backgrounds. This perspective video really helps. Thank you so much!
11:20 at this i thought this video is sponsored by skillshare but you guys are really funny ..and happy 1st anniversary
haha! nope no sponsors!
thank you so much for this! i've been struggling in art uni since they don't really talk much about how perspective work, just told us what to draw and I've been having a hard time, you guys a live saver
holy bananas
you guys are light.... you guys light up this dark world of mine.
ty
Omg I fall asleep and you guys release another video....✨
Going back to sleep to see if this trick works again 🤔
Im so so so so so glad i can understand english. There has never been ANY tutorial on backgrounds more helpful than this video, they werent kidding when they said they were gonna tackle EVERYTHING

Dude I was just stressing about this! You guys saved me lots of time hahaha
You guys are the best thing about UA-cam. Thank you for dropping learnings on us.
Oh my gosh, as someone who was going broke paying for Skillshare and PluralSight and art books with Amazon every week, this is like a LITERAL God send. Like, God came down from the heavens and pointed at this video from over my shoulder and said "Behold, proof of my love" with a resounding thunderclap from above.
I'm going to watch this over and over and over again and try dozens of backgrounds! I have Photoshop for photo-editing and both Clip Studio Paint and Paint Tool Sai for drawing, but I'm going to try my hand at drawing in Photoshop...Or more likely, try to make these grids in CSP XD I haven't figured out how to get my wacom pen to work well with Photoshop yet.
Thank you so much for sharing such critical knowledge with us lowly, poor artistic souls! You truly show us that...
...not all heroes wear capes.
youtube is kinda unthanklful.. great editing, great ideas, great useful tips, real actual talent (unlike your typical view-reaping trash-content-producing youbue-"TALENT" that only got famous cause luck and/or cause attractive).. why does this channel not have a million subs yet after almost 2 years??
I'm currently in Digital Media Arts--our instructor posted this video to help us learn perspective (or give us some perspective LOL). I've been practicing art for many years and have done several exercises with perspective, but this video was a lot of fun to watch!

3. Edit properties of the Polygon tool
4. Change Path to Shape
5. Change it to no fill (White box with red line)
6. Change it to 1 point stroke (1px)
7. Click the settings cog
8. Change it to "Star"
9. Change "Indent Sides" by "99"
10. Change "Sides:" to "100"
11. Select horizon line and drag the shape

I just need to translate this for clipstudio
Two uploads in a day? It's not even Christmas yet, ya' nerds
This is probably the best video about perspective that I have ever seen. Thank you! -sincerely, an artist that doesn't know anything about perspective
I died at the last bit. omg. i feel like i did that when i sent my character to you lol. Sorry
btw with the new photoshop update for creating the 1 point grid, you have to click the gear icon and then change the star ratio to 1%, everything else that they mentioned it the same though
legend!
Thank you so much for this, perspective has been the bane of my existence for the longest time. You have a great style of teaching, very easy to understand and follow.
I WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS
Awesome video guys ♥ Thank you
As a non-digital artist, i am going to resort needles and string.
Heard about this on tik tok

Yes
Same am not gonna lie thanks to the TikTok, I found this channel and most definitely subscribing.

THAT WAS FANTASTIC I'M IN TEARS

Imagine being in tons of debt to art school and then seeing this channel lmao. This was great.
well at least with the skills you get from watching this channel. you'll be able to pay back that debt. but just imagine a career as "performance artist" though LOL
BaM Animation im reminded of a quote from a lampshade “eh, its a livin”.
But really I never learned about this stuff in school so its much appreciated
Thank you! I’m not doing digital art but this video is immensely helpful since the rules and tips apply no matter what medium.
Yeah... But do you have any perspective grids we can just download? That'd help.
try downloading a perspective grid brush, 1 click and you are done
@@giawhytho5481 Thank you for that link, the site is amazing!
nah man, i just need the secret brush that makes you a pro
how lazy are you? where did you downloaded your free breathing app?
@@drinkwoter there's no secret brushes. You just need to find a brush that you feel comfortable to use. Try different sizes and opacity. Then, test it out. You'll find your brush for your art like that ^^
11:16 this caught me completely off guard and I laughed way harder than I should have lmao
I can't begin to describe how amazing this video is. So simply explained, full of practical examples with super useful tips. This video is gold!!!
(positive comment)
guess who's back, back again, Bam is back, tell a friend!
teaching us when to apply the concept within the drawing process-thank god. I love you.
about to graduate art school and now this is when perspective clicks for me?...
