I bought a cat tent from amazon for a couple of strays that comes around, I didn't realize not to use towels because I threw one in there. I'll have to take it out, but I don't have straw so they'll make do with it bare. But it does have a flap that covers the entry to keep out wind. They seem to like it
Yes, I was going to post a story regarding that. We had an outdoor dog and barn cat. We had horses. My father and relatives had built our house, and we had tons of leftover materials. My father built this HUGE oversized dog house, that also had a lean to for summer shade that was like 6 ft long . He had surrounded it all, the completed box and lean to, with left over cinder blocks for extra protection. But because we had horses, we had lots of straw, and would constant line the house with it in cold weather. Hay easily gets moldy. You always had to check before you fed the horses and ponies. The house was so big I was still about 10 still crawling i and reading comics to Dudley. We had two steel containers, about 1 1/2 gallons each we always kept filled with food in one, water the other, inside his house. We had a freakish snow storm one winter. Back before internet. You had to try and go by what the 25% accurate weather guys on TV called. It was only a foot of snow, but without a lot of trees around, the wind created drifts 3-4' high in spots. I go to dig out Dudley and out pops Sylvester, our barn cat. They had spent the night together. While I am clearing drifts, they are out frolicking in the snow. Was a wonderful sight. But straw is definite key. It protects from moisture, holds in air, because most is hollow, and makes for good insulation. Before that storm, I had actually boxed Dudley in, so the whole entrance to his house was filled with straw. I dont know if Sylvester was in their by then, or he snuck in. They were very friendly. Dudley often let Sylvester have first dibs if we brought out "people" food.
@@trentblume5998 No, hay they eat. Straw, best way to put it, doubles like kitty litter and insulation material. Or something like you put in a little critter cage.
Good. Gave 👍. However, with several strays, here researched topic thoroughly. The cats are to have an escape, an opening also in back, from predators. They prefer enclosures with two openings.✌️🙂
LOVE THIS!!! My wife and I did something similar with our black cat visitor. Late November, and in the northeast it gets COLD, plus snow. So we lured our ‘Goldie’ in using the same food technique (Goldie because of the eyes!). Left the back sliding glass door open, and gradually she got comfortable enough to stroll over to the couch, and stayed! She was half-feral and not sure about us at first, but she acclimated pretty quickly. Yes, we saved a stray from probable freezing or becoming a dinner herself, and gained a friend!
That does seem so true. My brother had a cat that passed away recently and I asked him if he would get another because he loves cats and takes such good care of them. He said he was waiting for the right cat to find him.😻

Love it guys. I have 16 rescued cats that I keep in my house and I did some outdoor renovations in my garden to provide safe outdoor day cat playground. Them at night they all come in to sleep. Its helpful that I live in an island in Penang Malaysia where its hot and tropical weather. The cats enjoy outdoor all day long in a safe environment.
And what I should have included was that the cat houses that you can get online that don’t need electricity are crap! There are great electric ones if you can afford AND have a power source. I need a really warm cat house that doesn’t need electricity that’s not crap. This particular cat somehow survived-20 last year! He was living under my neighbor’s porch but the landscaping people filled it in! And it’s too hard and frozen to dig it back open to help him out. I’ve been here 8 years and he’s been there the whole time. So I don’t really know how long he’s been surviving our cold winters. He IS A TROOPER! I lose sleep at night worrying about him but there’s no way he would ever come close enough. I really want that kid to be warm just once in his life.
@@lindapester7094 yes I as well. But I do have specific requirements just like that. But… that’s an easy fix to weather proof it. It could always be covered in bad weather. I tried building one out of what I had available to me. It’s a good temporary emergency shelter that’s protected and waterproofed. I always have that out. However it’s not pretty, only practical.
You are such good humans to that cat. Now the kitty has a warm place to go and steady food forever. I hope he decides to come inside and be your companion. 🙏👍👍
My grandparents had a stray cat that eventually moved into the garage. He had a heater and AIR CONDITIONING and it was his perfect little house that he loves until he passes away.
We've got two dogs and two cats, and our cats never go scrounging looking for food elsewhere, and noticed a cat started hanging around obviously wanting food. As an animal lover I started putting food out for her. This was probably about September 23. As it got colder and more wet weather she seemed to be always there, taking shelter underneath our cars, I felt so sorry for her. We had a cat box for indoors that our cats don't use so I put that outside for her and she seemed to spend most of her time there. I put old clothes in there and always fed her but it wasn't waterproof and as the English weather got more wetter, I felt inside of there and it was soaking wet. I knew we had to do something. My dad is the hero of this story because he wrapped that box in sheet plastic, but it was still taking in water as the rain was so frequent. The box was leaking despite efforts to make her a dry, safe space. My dad's a plumber and he fitted a new toilet and he used the empty toilet package box for a shelter for her. He put insulation inside of it, and made it waterproof by covering the whole box in sheet plastic. He cut a small cat flap sized hole for her and we put some nice fluffy blankets in there. Ever since then she's made it her home. It's dry and warm for her and we always feed her. She's a happy kitty and I'm so thankfull to my dad for making that box her home. Even my dogs accept her, and show no hostility towards her. She's such a loving cat, always purrs when we bring food for her and she loves a stroke. It makes me so happy knowing that there's other humans like you and me who go just a bit out of their way to help better an animals life. So much respect to you and I'm sure a lot of other Humans who help animals, even if its in the smallest way. Sending a lot of appreciation, love and respect from England 🏴 xx
Probably has a couple other houses he visits too, cats are clever little creatures. The family dog looked pretty interested in the kitty too lol. Too cute. Cats love cozy little hide-y-holes. You have a cat for life now. Food, house, freedom and your distant attention. Perhaps soon hands on attention.
God bless that couple for helping that stray out. There's so many strays that could use help, but not enough people willing to provide them with food and/or shelter. Warms my heart to see others help an animal in need!
Reminds me of a cat my mom "adopted" years ago, after kids were grown. He would sometimes hang out on the carport, with no desire to be a pet, but Mom fed him and nursed him after a beating, when he had come to trust her. He was always fighting. A big tomcat that even my dad came to love, cause he was a ratter and chased the dogs from pooping in the yard! No fear of anything! RIP "Blackie" ❤
I've been rescuing dogs/cats/horses and parrots for 43 years now, and I love this! I had a huge family of cats (mama and her babies of all ages) a few years ago that I fed daily and then ended up buying weatherized houses for them. They were just like this guy .. Spoiled and loved from a distance! Please adopt and rescue!
Wow, what a great little house for your stray kitty! Made from the best material, and an (A-frame?) roof to boot! Thank you for helping this kitty in such a generous way! Blessings to you both!❤❤❤ ❤❤❤❤❤
You guys should manufacture these houses for other people that don’t want to take the time to build them, but want to provide for stray cats in their yard as well❤
Wonderful !! Straw inside yes but cats like to lie high up and watch the neighbourhood and be safe from other animals. What about a flat roof (sorry) or even a platform or two against the tree. Don't injure the tree please, but even an elevated platform for its house. And what about hanging toys.........só many ideas when you are a cat lover.........haha
yes, I'd love one of these for the stray living in my yard. But I'd want it modified with a 2nd escape door, though. I've found that all it takes is for a stray to get trapped by a predator one time and then they won't use that shelter again.
This is such a "feel-good" project. I smiled at the husband that shakes his head at his wife's idea and then proceeds to make a castle. I had my best kitty, Spade for 15 of his 18? years who came to us as a stray in November. Thank you, both.
Spray the lil cabin w/Catnip spray & put a lil blanket & tiny catnip toys in it & I guaranteeeee he’ll LuVVV it!…And, try a lil bit of either wet cat food &/or Lickable Treats on the side Only as a treat tooo…just trying 2 help u guyz help him 2 like & especially Enjoy his new home u so lovingly made 4 him*
You could have gone the whole hog, made it a bit bigger and added a water and automatic food dispenser inside that could be filled from the outside. Saves having to keep going out there and when you’re on holiday he’ll always have food. Lovely cat house regardless, I hope to see an update when he becomes a house cat. It took me over 6 months to win mine over but we got there in the end.
such a wonderful thing to do for this adorable stray cat. I am sure that he is loving his new digs this winter!! all outdoor pets should have houses like this to keep warm in the winter.
so adorable, watching this BROTHER and SISTER duo with very natural RED hair living together, getting along, joking around and showing such care and compassion towards a cat.
That is an awesome and beautiful little house you made for that cat. He is very lucky. I did volunteer cat rescue for over 10 years and I never built shelters that wonderful because the cats I took care of were out in the woods. One comment I would like to make is sometimes the little houses that we build for stray cats need to have an escape entrance as well. That is because in my area there are foxes and coyotes and half bread wild dogs sometimes another animal will peep in there and see the cat and try to eat it meaning the coyote or a fox sometimes raccoons will end up in there.I always keep the food somewhat a bit away from the house so it's not to attract predators at night time. What I did do was I put another door in the back that is more like an escape hatch so if he does get trapped even by a nasty or evil human he can get out so it's mainly something he can push through and then on the outside of that I would put a little piece of thick plastic tarp so that the wind won't go through the front and out the back but if God forbid he had to escape he could push his way out the back and threw the tarp with no problem. Other than there are only being one entrance is a wonderful house. God bless you all for helping him. Dawn from Philadelphia
Very cute! For ppl who want to provide houses for strays but can't afford something like this, some options are plastic tubs and Styrofoam containers. Always use straw for the houses and never blankets. Cheers!

Great story! Love to see people helping kitties in need! Super house for this boy! 🙂👍🥰
I have that exact situation! Will you build me one? You should sell those!!
I didn't notice a rubber addition on the roof to keep moisture from getting in the house❤
Blessed you both..🙏🏻😍
I love this video didnt end with the cat being tame and purry. Thanks for helping just to help.🐈⬛
What wonderful souls . . . & Fat Belly looks pleased👏🐾👍
My grandparents had a stray cat that eventually moved into the garage. He had a heater and AIR CONDITIONING and it was his perfect little house that he loves until he passes away.
I love him 🥺❤️

Nice people made the world a better place.
Bless you for helping this sweet timid kitty 😺 ♥ 😺
God bless that couple for helping that stray out. There's so many strays that could use help, but not enough people willing to provide them with food and/or shelter. Warms my heart to see others help an animal in need!
Amen
That's so sweet, love the house design 😍 purfect for a cat 🐈 ❤

Reminds me of a cat my mom "adopted" years ago, after kids were grown. He would sometimes hang out on the carport, with no desire to be a pet, but Mom fed him and nursed him after a beating, when he had come to trust her. He was always fighting. A big tomcat that even my dad came to love, cause he was a ratter and chased the dogs from pooping in the yard! No fear of anything!
RIP "Blackie" ❤
I am so proud of this young couple. God bless them. ❤
Give this amazing couple more interior design business opportunities ❤
love how they're so invested that they keep watch at the window for Fat Billy.
the dog laying next to the husband while theyre looking outside for the cat to come, was so funny!
Even the dog is watching. Such a lovely thing to do. (I just love people who love animals and do these kind of gestures, warms the ❤️🔥)!
Wow, what a great little house for your stray kitty! Made from the best material, and an (A-frame?) roof to boot! Thank you for helping this kitty in such a generous way! Blessings to you both!❤❤❤ ❤❤❤❤❤
Heartwarming to know there are such caring and compassionate people
You guys should manufacture these houses for other people that don’t want to take the time to build them, but want to provide for stray cats in their yard as well❤
Wonderful !!
Just love how some wonderful people go way beyond to show love and compassion for an animal!
Spray the lil cabin w/Catnip spray & put a lil blanket & tiny catnip toys in it & I guaranteeeee he’ll LuVVV it!…And, try a lil bit of either wet cat food &/or Lickable Treats on the side Only as a treat tooo…just trying 2 help u guyz help him 2 like & especially Enjoy his new home u so lovingly made 4 him*
You guys are the best! Even in Vancouver BC, where winters tend to be milder, people build houses for ferals. Love the Sistine Chapel touch❤.
This world needs more kind caring loving ppl like ya'll. God be gracious to you guys always♥️🐾♥️
A few years ago I did the same thing, gave a stray shelter and food..she brought a friend along one day so I made 2 shelters…I love animals ❤
Gorgeous little house! I love the Sistine Chapel idea.
such a wonderful thing to do for this adorable stray cat. I am sure that he
is loving his new digs this winter!! all outdoor pets should have houses
like this to keep warm in the winter.
A beautiful story about a cat!!! 🥰🎶🐈⬛❤️🙏🙏🙏🇨🇦
There's something about everything that a black cat does that is both so funny and so mesmerizing.
Cheers to my little panther named Benny! 🎉🎉
Love every single thing about this story 💝 👏👏👏. His name is fitting.😂. Sure looks like he hasn’t missed many meals….😅. Great humans, he’s a lucky boy.
so adorable, watching this BROTHER and SISTER duo with very natural RED hair living together, getting along, joking around and showing such care and compassion towards a cat.
Came here to say the same thing about escape doors!
What a great couple! So kind to animals.
Adorable, merci pour ce chat qui est solitaire et qui apprécie sa liberté,. Bravo
Wow, that was awesome! Thank you, guys!!!
That cat ain't missing any meals...he probably has several homes feeding him.
Very cute!
For ppl who want to provide houses for strays but can't afford something like this, some options are plastic tubs and Styrofoam containers.
Always use straw for the houses and never blankets.
Cheers!
Blessed AND lucky kitty ❤
Thank you so much for building that awesome house! I wonder how many kitties will find it when the weather gets bad?
Yup, he's rocking out his new abode!🎉
What you did was a wonderful kind thing. Taking care of this kitty shows the world of your humanity. Thank you for caring.
Me thinks you are not the only ones feeding Fat Billy😂
He is mos def a “Six Dinner Sid” (wonderful book)! 😂 I mean, they are calling him Fat Billy so I really don’t think he is actually missing any meals. It is still sweet to build him a warm house. He may end up leaving his other people for them! ❤
It’s always a joy to see people caring about animals, and their well being 😊
Y’all should sell these pet houses I would totally buy one 👍
So glad he has a warm house & y’all will feed & care for him. Thank u
Beautiful ❤😊❤

Same here. I have a feral that's super shy. He lets me know when he's hungry but that's it. 😊😊

새해 복 많이 받으세요 😊
Happy New Year! Bless you and your brother and all his cats.
once he gets comfortable with it, a little fabric flap will help keep the warmth from coming out from the door
