One of the best things about a chatterbait is you can catch bass in cold water, hot water, clear water and muddy water. It literally works at all times of the year and for all species of bass.
Because it is such a good lure I find the need to make a couple guide to fishing this lure which is the video you are about to watch.
In this video we will discuss Chatterbaits and other bladed jigs, how to fish chatter baits, chatterbait color and trailers, the biggest chatterbait mistake and when, where and how to fish it!
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

Tyler, I am an experienced, hard core angler and I want to thank you for consistently putting out in-depth, quality content. I have become a better angler because you are willing to share the presentation tips you have learned through hard work and trial and error. In my opinion you have the best all around fishing UA-cam channel. Thank you!

Go out when there's good water color, that good greenish early spring color. Find those transition banks with red clay, limestone, or bluff ends. If there are laydowns there, there will be bass. Try to fish the sunny sides of main feeder creeks in the back 1/3, and parallel that type of shoreline. Use the chatterbait anywhere you would imagine a spinnerbait would be choice. Stick with natural baitfish colors at first, get brave with red during early prespawn when the bass are rubbing those banks in less than 6' of water. Slow-roll it just like a spinnerbait, just lightly tapping the bottom every few feet. Let the fish load up when they bite, they will often push a foot of slack in your line then turn away.

Chatter baits vibrate so violently that the plastic trailer doesn't need any action. It's going to be shaken HARD by the action of the blade. I like simple original flat Flukes. The body really shakes well. I also trim the skirt to have a more conical profile so there isn't an abrupt end to the material. I'm a fly fisherman originally and profile to me is super important.

The Mini Max in Pearl Ghost in 3/8's with a 10,000 Fish Yoto worm in white silver flake has been the absolute magic bullet for me this winter on the California delta and almost every lake I've hit. Was so nice to see a lot of what I do, covered in this video. Chatterbaits have been my go-to for years, and the alternating retrieve speeds, twitches, and pauses are so key. Was a tiny bit surprised to not see yo-yoing covered here, as that's been a clutch technique too but admittedly more situational. This has got to be about my favorite video now. Thank you for this and showing some love to my beloved chatter :D

  • @ShawnNorthernOutdoorExperience

Hello fellow Ohioan. I've found all your videos to be very helpful for that thing I didn't know or think of. I have definitely found some game changers in certain Ohio waters on my own that didn't fit the norm for the time of year. Specifically late summer through mid fall bass on East harbor and Spencer lake. One of those works on both and is not what you would think of using for bass at that time but it was killer in mid fall Spencer in particular when no one around me caught anything. There is plenty I picked up from you that is solid info and advice. Keep up the great work!

I actually use this technique but never had a name for it 😂 but i like that. It seems to be the best method for summer bass fishing up here for the bigger ones since they wanna conserve energy. My pb was caught like that. It was 6.4 lbs, which for NJ is pretty good. It's not a monster but still a pretty big fish.

Mini-max all the way for me. I throw a bunch of chatterbaits, O.G and Jackhammer do all right, Big Blade doesn't seem to cut it - not even on pike, but I get bites on mini left and right. The zako to me has a lazy wobble to it's action, the razor shad is quicker and tighter. I have some Berkley Power Stingers I want to try out when the ice thaws as well, I am intrigued with the honey comb like the Gilly swimbaits.
