Some things are just genetic. I always wear sunscreen around my eye area and use retinol regularly yet my veins are visible. I mostly apply whatever serum I use to my undereye area as well such as vitamin C, peptides, hyaluronic acid, niaciminade, arbutin, ginseng. It just doesn't make any difference. I have the same purple under-eye region that I had since my elementary school days. Yes as early as that I had it. If it is hereditary nothing will change.

Maybe if you could afford try invasive procedures like PRP treatments or lasers after consulting a dermatologist. I think these work wonders with genetic dark circles.

I had negligible amount of dark circles in school when i was 15, i never used any makeup, not even a moisturizer (regularly) or sunscreen till 15, Now it's been 9 years I am dealing with extreme dark circles. I ignored it for 9 long years, kept sleeping late, took too much stress. I got it after an age and made them worse overtime. Now i can't go out without a concealer on, So do you think mine can be hereditary dark circles too?

@@shailstia9137 hereditary or genetic meaning that you inherit the characters from your family members. Here it looks like you have acquired it by external factors. Either way it's long standing and stubborn dark circles so yess you can consult a dermatologist for the procedures that suits best for your under eye skin :)(ps: I'm just a medical student I really can't provide you with more info than this. only a qualified esthetician or dermatologist can provide you the perfect solution)

We are so obsessed with our 'imperfections'. I remember I tried so hard to cover my dark circles. They are dark but its not only the darkness its the bone structure that makes them hollow. I didnt know how to conceal, then when I learned to conceal my under eye area correctly by putting a peach concealer and another of my skin tone I realised my face changed a lot and not in a good way. My eyes looked very different bc it was not only darkness but the hollowness and with concealer it looked weird. I realised my dark circles add dimenson to my face and as weird as it may sound I like the way they suit my face. Im not against makeup, I love its potencial to transform and be creative and of course if dark circles are a problem for you treat them.
But I just hate the way people dont understand that there are some genetic feautes that are not necessarly flaws.

This retinol thingy is so confusing 😱 I saw some articles and lots of people (on reddit, on youtube etc) said don't use it undereyes, because many (anecdotal) safety reasons like I saw a person who got sight problem on reddit cause her undereye absorbed too much vitamin A from retinol(?) Something like that, and I also saw article that said retinoids we use on face will diffuse under the skin, so we don't need to apply retinoids directly to the eye area. Dunno who to follow, my puffy eyes+dark circles really need help though 😩

2.9٪ retinol is so low. RetinOID is the highest level of all the others. People probably used tretinoin (Vitamin A) you can't put that near your eyes. When you blink, look down or up is moving your skin around the eye which makes the tretinoin travel up to your lashes and/or into your eyes. I can tell when I get sunscreen to close to my eyes. It traveled up into my eyes. They stung really bad.
If you think I don't know what I'm talking about.
      Try this out.
Look in the mirror and move your eyes around. You can put a thick layer of eye cream, not up to your lashes about 5 cm below.
Move your eyes all around. Every angle you can look over and over for up to two minutes. That time will act like a half day of moving your eyes around.
Also eye cream needs to go up to your crows feet. Even if you don't have them yet put eye cream on them. Get ahead now before they start.
You need vitamin c and ferilic Dr. Perricone has an eye cream with it, expensive though.
Vitamin c, sodium hyaluronic acid or just hyaluronic acid. (Sodium one is better). Peptides are definite maybe vitamin E have that in them. You can also put tea bags on your for caffeine to help puffiness to. If you have time to relax do it. Put it warm water to activate caffeine.
Some other eye creams or serum. Ordinary, inky list, Paula's Choice, Peter Thomas Roth or dermilogica. Maybe elf. Try hydrating line.
If you have puffiness, put spoons in the fridge or freezer and it will bring the puffiness down after 5 to 10 minutes.
Please use sunscreen all over you face and neck, front and back.
Rock is a good eye cream to. The under eye skin is sooo thin. That is why you have to treat them very delicate.
      I hope I helped you a bit.
      Good luck❗

I think a lot of advice on this usually comes from a prescribed retinol vs OTC general brands. Prescribed is usually stronger and your eye area is very sensitive. But most general brands should be okay, especially if formatted for that. But always patch test first :)

For that budget, you can get all the listed items above, which is basically the bare minimum. But if you really just want to start with one, I suggest this order: sunscreen, cleanser, moisturizer, whatever you need (retinol, etc). Nowadays, things are a lot easier so you can actually get sunscreen with ceramides or cleanser with SA or moisturizer with SA, meaning you won't need the fourth item if you already have it in the basic three.

If we need retinol because it increases skin thickness in face and body, then we need it double as much under the eyes to avoid further thinning of the skin. You think under eye skin is not skin? And do your research, I’m not trying to convince anybody here, the clinical studies are published and available for public to read and be informed. I’m not google or private researcher for you. Do the job on your own. Under eye skin is still skin and retinol thinning skin is a myth. Ask any derm you know and any scientist there is. Retinol is shown to increase skin thickness. It does not thin skin out. Study harder. There is no study out there that shows that retinol thins our skin. Okay? Do your homework
