    I am one of the types of people that have had dark under eyes my whole life, like literally since I was 3-4 years old. The best things I have done to lessen my dark circles was treat my allergies (I use nasal spray), using spf 50 pa++++ under my eyes daily with reapplication, and just generally keeping under my eyes moisturized and hydrated with a better skincare routine. It's honestly crazy how much better my dark circles look now at 27 then they ever did through my childhood and teens. I've also abandoned the idea that my under eyes will ever look "perfect" without makeup, like you said it's an unachievable concept, and it allows me to by happy with where they are now!

      There was a time when I ate 10 bananas every day and during that time my dark circles completely disappeared. I can't do that anymore but I try to eat as many raw veggies and fruits. They really make a difference but I don't think I ll ever be able to make them disappear again.

    Vitamin K has beef a damn miracle for my hereditary dark circles. Nothing else has ever made a dent, but topical vitamin K has reduced them by at least 70% (which is about as good as I think can be expected). Naturopathica made a fantastic K eye cream but recently reformulated, so I’ve been using a random K cream I found at a health food store. It’s called Reviva. I think what ends up working for dark circles depends on why you have them, it’s different for everyone. Mine are a circulation issue, as opposed to allergies or lack of sleep, and K helps with that.

      @@user-dt3wm8rn4j Some oral supplements can help, but research shows that very little of the nutrients go to the skin. I do both, personally. For me, I had the trifecta of genetic dark circles, thinning skin due to age, and age-related volume loss. My under eyes have had major improvement from once a year tear trough filler and two rounds of radio frequency and laser vein ablation. Part of my darkness was because I had very visible blue/purple veins that could be seen through my thinning, fair skin. The RF for the veins was painful, but effective. My doctor recommended a third round, but due to the dramatic improvement I saw from two rounds and the painful was of the process, I stopped at two. I can now wear much less concealer, though you are right to say not to expect to be able to go makeup free.

    I swear by daily green tea and/or matcha has been THE BEST brightening tip I’ve ever done for my skin. It not only basically totally gets rid of my dark circles, but brightens my overall skin. I drink at least 20 oz daily of (preferably iced) green tea or matcha latte to see results. I’ve done many times of forgetting or not getting around to it, and i notice my skin will look darker within a few days or so. If i get back on green tea/matcha, within a week my dark circles disappear. This has worked SEVERAL times for me over the years!

I was only vaguely aware of the possible benefits of lymphatic drainage but never pursued it. I assumed that using an eye cream with caffeine was the answer. Then I discovered face yoga and gua sha massage. I still have bags but they are substantially reduced. And the stress relief of both techniques has been an added benefit.

      Many people who genetically have deep valley of tears and dark circles do not notice any improvement due to more sleep. They might actually at times look even worse after more sleep, so this is not a universal solution. And no, the fact that someone has a darker under eye area does not always mean sleep deprivation. If someone has them all the time it's just their genetics.

His staining was so bad, he looked like he had two black eyes. The procedure made a tremendous difference and his undereyes still look good today. I haven't seen anything similar to this type of procedure while researching hemosiderin staining (which I also have) and was hoping this video would mention what that procedure is. I heard it’s an untested sunscreen filter (concerning 😭) that isn’t regulated as a sunscreen filter, so it’s a sneaky way for clean beauty sunscreen brands to increase SPF ratings in their formulation process with organic filters while still marketing themselves as mineral-only sunscreens (while maligning sunscreens with organic filters in the process)

I don't mind it having an "inorganic" filter or something resembling inorganic filters, but it being untested in the quantities it's being used is extremely concerning. They're just hiding inside loopholes. I also immediately went and checked my favorite sunscreen (R&R serum) and thankfully it doesn't have those ingredients. But now I'm still on the hunt for "next generation" sunscreens from other countries. I feel like I just can't trust the United States anymore to produce genuinely safe and ethically sound products. My skin was horrendous after my first session (extreme redness, sandpaper texture, peeling) and it took 5 days to heal completely, but I just had my fourth treatment, and I noticed that my skin has bounced back a lot faster after each one, despite my aesthetician using deeper needle depths (2mm now) and making more passes across my face. My skin just looks a little tender after each treatment nowadays, and it looks back to normal after 3 days. I suspect that the skincare products I'm currently using have also contributed to my skin recovering faster than before, but I'm just curious if skin can get "accustomed" to microneedling?

      I've had this exact same experience! My 4th treatment is coming up. Are you seeing results? I have pretty bad pitted scarring and I'm still waiting for it to improve more noticeably.

      @@svpate5 Thank you for sharing! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I thought I was going insane. I hope Dr Ellis can clarify if this can happen as well. And yes, I have gotten good results from microneedling so far. It's officially been 6 months since I got my first treatment in March and my scars have noticeably improved. My boxcar scars have improved the most. Most of them have smoothened so much that they don't have a defined edge anymore. Basically, they don't even look like boxcars anymore! I am looking forward to seeing more improvement over the next few months because it generally takes 6-12 months to notice the most improvement from microneedling.

      @@AWhite-wo9pz interesting! Glad you're seeing such great results! My derm has me doing a treatment every month for 6 months, which seems more accelerated.

      @@svpate5 Thank you! I hope you get great results from it! It's actually advised to have one session every 4-6 weeks, but my personal schedule was horrendous after my first treatment, so I had to delay microneedling for three months. I've been getting it monthly now. But, tbh, the fact that I've gotten the results that I have 6 months after my first isolated session is very encouraging to me, which is why I'm excited for my following sessions to take full effect.

    My cosmetic nurse friend has translucent under eyes like mine… he reckons he's tried everything and colour-correcting makeup is the best solution 😂.
    Considering how often he espouses the benefits of procedures, it was quite a suprise to hear him say that 🤯!

    I was born with my under eye circles. No joke I blend in with the white part of a volleyball net. I’m the same exact color. When that’s what Mother Nature gives, you, you’re gonna have dark spots under your eyes your entire life.

    How many hours sleep do you need to not get eye bags and dark circles like what is the minimum you generally need. Average adult needs 5 hours of sleep to function but will that much gove you bags? If you do have them how long do they take to go away with sleep?

    • @JenDoe1
      @JenDoe1 Рік тому +1

      7 is usually a good number however everyone is different. If you sleep deeply for 6 hours, then that’s fine. I think they say generally 7-9 hours. You are the best judge of your face though! Good luck.

    Darkness on the inner part of the eye socket is what I need help with. It’s due to one of the first conditions you talked about…veins or arteries showing through the skin. You didn’t really give suggestions for this issue. Is make up the only option? They are so bad that even heavy concealer can’t disguise them. Any suggestions? Thank you!

      Occasionally lasers may be helpful, but it’s a tricky area and sometimes the vessels are too deep to adequately treat, unfortunately. I think having a consultation with cosmetic dermatologist and/or plastic surgeon would give you the most guidance here!

    Dark circles are natural for those with deep set eyes, because of the sadowing, so I don't know why we hate them so much. I rather keep them than doing anything like fillers and stuff cause I rather keep my eyesight then go blind for perfection.

    This was an excellent breakdown. However, you didn’t speak about pigment busting/reducing skincare products & their efficacy on the various derived dark circles. Also am curious about growth factors on skin care… I get scared when I see that listed and steer clear🫣

    • @DrSamEllis
      @DrSamEllis  Рік тому

      Ah yes! Meant to include that! So hydroquinone, alpha arbutin, hydroxy acids, retinoids, etc can help with true pigment but seem to be less effective under the eyes than on other parts of the face. Still worth a go though but just being mindful of the potential irritation on this delicate area!
