To me, this was the best Amiga game. It combined a text strategy game with fun mini games, all with amazing graphics for its time. And the game was hard. Anyone that played this game in its time would attest to that. There was nothing like this game on the Amiga or any other system at the time. It was a revolutionary game.
+MrRetroville Yeah, for sure! I loved it, and beat it many times on my Amiga. I did find a cheat though later on after I was bored with winning conventional ways: When you beat the game, take a note of the [in game] date and time when you have to go underground to confront the queen. Then just start the game over, sleep until that time, then go straight to the same location and dispatch the queen. This worked for me every time.
This game was so creepy, and it still is. The atmosphere is so thick you could cut it with a knife. An absolute masterpiece of a game. (Except combat, that was horrible. Although speeding out of the hospital in a wheelchair was AMAZING)
I played this when I was 10-12 years old, with an English to Dutch Dictionary next to me. One of the reasons I'm fluent in English nowadays. Truth be told, I never finished it back then, or at least - not in the way you win the game. But, I played the crap out of it nonetheless. I remember bringing friends over and show *all the things* you can do! Get in a knife fight, drive a car! Shoot at monster ants! Fly a plane! Escape a hospital! In a wheelchair! Hide under covers! And the freedom of an overland map alone was something I hadn't experienced before.. Haha, such a brilliant game.
I have come back to this longplay a few times, to relive my childhood. Man, a 12 year old me never got anywhere near to completing it - but I had so much fun! I think I would struggle even now in my 40s!!! Kudos to the player, really skilled and those ant battles towards the end are just too intense!
I played this game to death when I was a child. But one mystery that remains unsolved is what that brownish slug looking thing is, draped over the armrest of the sofa
awesome game, great memories. I'm French, back then there were no French subtitles in such game on Amiga. That's how I got great grades in English courses because I had to open my dictionary to understand what the characters said.
Well its good to see that somebody finished this game, I know that I can't,, I have tried countless times, I love this game, but I can not finish it,, its hard enough for me to escape the hospital. Great game.
This game is essentially Groundhog Day but with giant ants. The way you learn better and better what happens, where, when and why the more you play through the 2 weeks until you eventually become the ultimate movie hero.
Loved this game I played it loads in 1990-1992, still one of the most atmospheric games I played. Music still sends shivers down my back. I remember the nurse was pretty hot too! Awesome game that would still be good to play now!
I totally agree with all what you say, the music especially has a real effect and I'm 40, still a class game, I never won the car chase with biff, always drove me off, damm git
Oh man thank you for the upload, I had so much fun playing this game… so many great games on Amiga. Great memories and that Audio sooo dramatic. Love it.
It was certainly one of them. Cinemaware and Lucasfilm Games made some of the best games of this genre for the Amiga. Oh, yeah, and Sierra On-Line, too...
I was thinking the same thing. A sequel even, or remake and 3rd chapter adding to the story. But with a noteworthy developer like Rockstar who can give it an LA Noir treatment to bring it into the 21st century
I played this game many times but so much of the story I, must have missed. I don't know if it's on purpose, but how you were playing really shows how great the writing in this game is. Multiple subplots have come up that I didn't even know existed. Watching you play is almost like watching a crime noir novel on the screen. Thanks!
Amazing game with a Ridiculously EPIC intro and cinematics ! nothing came close at the time ! this was a great showcase of a game for what the Amiga could do ingame
I loved my amiga and this was one of my favorite games. I was so upset to learn my parents donated it to goodwill when I went off to college. Thank you for bringing back awesome memories of this game, like shooting off the antennae off the ants and racing around the hospital in the wheelchair!
I loved this game back in it's day. I didn't have an Amiga so, I borrowed my friend's one to play it & every time he came back around for it after a week, I made sure not to answer the door. This game had me truly hooked, it was a classic unlike anything you'd ever played before.
Cinemaware, made two of the greatest Amiga games: It came from the desert and Rocket Ranger. Brings back childhood memories. I never could time those steps correctly in the beginning when taking off.
I remember this game back when, such a treat to see on UA-cam, this version was one of thee bests It Came from the Deserts out there, I truly love the music and style of it, the mini games were so much fun, but dang was it hard for its time
I absolutely loved this game back in the day. Used to play it to death on my Amiga but never finished it due to the game crashing or having various issues.
This game is one of the titles proving that Amiga games were super ambitious at the time. The graphics and sound capabilities really allowed the authors to create atmosphere and immersion into the story. Mixing visual novel like elements with some strategy and arcade mini games was really amazing idea. I wonder if there are new games nowadays with similar concept. Maybe mini games were replaced with quick time event stuff.
There was a mission in one of the Fallout games (New Vegas maybe) that reminded me of this game, and I even thought back then that the Fallout engine would be a perfect way to revive this game. Now though that engine is dated as hell, but I still think that Fallout is the closest we will get to reliving this game.
There is one. Unfortunately it's cheap tat and not a patch on the production value and atmosphere of the original. I could swear someone also made a movie or some TV series based on it a couple of years ago as well. I have no idea about the quality of that.
Doesn't make sense. How did the player get unlimited BOMBS so early on in the first ant battle? And why couldn't he just bring the townspeople over to show them all those ant corpses?

I loved this game but it had such a dark atmosphere. Cinemaware made some fantastic games. Rocket Ranger and Defender of the Crown were two others I had.
Its quite brilliant for a game, even if its a bit on the silent side and is very slow. But with some touch up here and there, it would be something to remake.
Never got around to playing this. Didn't Have an Amiga back in the day & remember reading about it. My 120 sits there with this on the flash drive, but I need to set side several days, really. Maybe in a couple of years!

Would have gotten old very fast. People wanted action back in the days. I remember being bored after 2 minutes with this game as a kid, and really looking forward to the giant ants, even though I appreciated the mystery too. The "build up" is that nobody believes the giant ants exist.
There is some merit in what you are saying, heck as a kid I probably would be upset that I wasn't jumping on the ants like in mario. With that being said, I don't understand why the town is in such denial. I mean the farmer saw this, and you could easily just bring back a dead body part back.
You only need 4 pieces of evidence to call in the army, not too much. The idea is that it is a small town, with lot's of weird claims made by drunken miners and so on. I can reccommend watching the movie this is based on: "Them!"
To me, this was the best Amiga game. It combined a text strategy game with fun mini games, all with amazing graphics for its time. And the game was hard. Those good old amiga days.

But took ages. I still remember that I went to JDs farm to kill my first monster ant.
