    It's easy to make your own salad dressing. Olive oil, apple cider vinegar, oregano, salt, pepper and garlic powder.

    To add more flavor, sautee and caramelize the vegetables with the onions in a tiny amount of water in a fry pan (if you're truly not using butter or oil) THEN start your soup once you've added a layer of flavor (especially because you have no veggie or chicken broth for soup base). Good deal though on the meal. *thumbs up*

    i am australian. i do not promote the vegemite toast skills. Yuck. Always a rookie mistake. Too much vegemite!
    For future reference, vegemite is great for soups! adds flavour and vitamins. Great for casseroles too. But next time...butter and margarine and like half a teaspoon of vegemite. A full teaspoon if you're daring. But no more. lol. Also taste really good on rice crackers.

    I cringe when I see people put their food in shopping carts without a bag. I've seen parents put their kids, barefoot, in their shopping carts because they're too lazy to keep an eye on them... And that's what your food is touching. Love the videos, you guys rock, but I just had to get that off my chest. Keep your food sanitary.

    • @b5akes41
      @b5akes41 9 років тому +21

      ***** Do you know how many things your food touches before it even gets to the grocery store? farmers pick it, throw it in a bucket, load it into barrels, put it on a truck, its unloaded, and put out on the shelves by unsanitary workers and touched by countless people throughout the days it sits on the shelves. then we get home and drop it and think its ruined. its stupid as fuck. lmao.

    To add: If you are starting from a completely empty pantry, now you don't need to get more salad dressing. So next time, you save $3. (Also the Safeway app if you have a smart phone is a life saver)
    If you have stuff in your pantry: Learn to make your own salad dressing. This saves so much money.

    How to shop healthy: Don't put your lettuces on the belt without a BAG!
    I worked at a supermarket for 3 years, guess whats on those things? POOP/URINE!
    Yeah, bet you weren't expecting that, now raw meat/chicken juice is always on those but guess where that poop/urine comes from, the child's seat of the shopping cart. When kids sit in there, that gets all over the seat, the seat gets used through out the day! Ton's of kids, and when you use that part of the cart to put items those items mop it up and get put on the belt.
    Granted stores clean those belts, some only after closing, others during the day but why risk it, USE A BAG!

    is that cheap? 10 bucks for one meal sounds pretty expensive to me. so if you eat lets say 6 times a day, that's 1800 bucks in food a month. that is alot! and also, this doesnt look like it will be very filling, so most people would go for some snacks soon after. also, it just seems like they are taking the foods they think are healthy without really thinking about the nutrients. what about fat? and there's not really alot of protein in that meal either, and im not so sure about the quality of the carbs they are getting

    • @goneforever8714
      @goneforever8714 9 років тому

      FoamyFingerboards many people does, I do often. it may not be the majority of people, but still quite alot eat 6 or more meals a day. but I just can't believe that it can't be done alot cheaper than this

    • @CurioChris86
      @CurioChris86 9 років тому +6

      10 bucks was for a few meals not just one, whole foods are more filling than you think, you probably won't go for a snack after eating this because your body has what it needs so you don't crave more food. Nutrients: Dressing is oil, oil is fat. Lentils have a lot of protein. Whole wheat grain bread is a great form of carbs...

    Great video guys. I've done this exact thing on a budget, and I really think it teaches you to appreciate the food you eat a little bit more. Like you said it might not be as fun as grabbing some cheeseburgers but the health, and money benefits far out weigh the fun factor. I also think the healthier you eat, this food can become fun because you change your palette over time.

The idea is really great. I've been trying to eat healthier for a while, and this really reminded me how much more easy and wholesome it is to make food thats not crap. And thank you for emphasizing how to do this with only $10. The meal you came up with really could feed myself and my fiance for a good 2-3 meals!
