Holy moly, what an intense run. I cannot imagine how tense it must have been going into Chronos's fight, having dedicated 3 hours to getting that far, and knowing that you'd lose access to your staff healing in phase 2. And not being able to burn down the hourglasses as they spawned in phase 2, to make it even scarier. Absolute insanity, congratulations on seeing it through!
Toula dealing 187,927 damage... while I know she can miss or hit multiple enemies, so you can't get exactly how many times she attacked from that number, but she must have attacked on the order of 1898 times, which would've required you to activate her 633 times.
How much "scouting" did you do before you committed to this run? Did you try Chronos Phase 2 with just Toula at the end of a normal run just to get a sense for if it was possible?
(Also, it's "ka-RIB-dis" -- "ka" like the first syllable of "calamity," "rib" like "rib cage," "dis" like "diss track"!)
Thanks so much! Also thank you for that sweet math, that's actually really interesting to see how many activations and attacks. And thank you thank you for the Charybdis pronunciation, I will keep that in mind for future Hades content later this week! As for the scouting, I did a full run where I used Toula for most of the rooms/bosses but to speed it up I used my weapon a lot. Then when I got to Chronos I just used Toula for it to see what I'd be up against - then lost that scouting attempt as soon as he spawned reinforcements in phase 2. But only one scouting attempt, I was pretty sure I could complete it with enough death defiance and patience.

And yeah, no surprise the reinforcements got you the first time; they can be rough enough with most weapons, never mind no weapons. I'm glad you managed to get your clear the first time you got to Chronos, between all the restarting and the agonizing clear through Scylla / the Fields / the Satyrs.
Love to see an amazing challenge run; here's hoping your next run is a little kinder to you than herding cats!

With the Queen Lamia / snake lady mini boss, you don’t need to kill the 4 ones on the islands. Taking out the Queen ends the battle.

This was wonderful. Came for the cat, stayed for your commentary and patience (and unceasing cat adoration) through what must have been an exhausting challenge run. Thank you for doing this so that no else has to; truly you are a hero almost as mighty as Toula herself.

Fire idea sounds quite interesting. It's certainly a challenge itself to find something that can top a Toula only run.
I've seen a few hitless runs around, I wonder if there could be an interesting spin on a no hit run?
Oooh maybe no hit with each different weapon or something? I'll record the fire one today too so I should have that up within a week.

Yessir the keepsakes guarantee one boon and allow you to "Rarify" one. I honestly just didn't think to swap off of it
Not sure if someone mentioned it yet, but in early Greek mythology Zeus and Hades were often conflated with each other - Zag's dad is also technically Zeus in the myths, if you really want the most solid answer, but in truth there's no real way to know for sure if ancient greeks that were coming up with all this stuff meant Zeus, or Hades, or both in some weird way. Them being distinctly different is more of a later interpretation.

34:54 - The Queen Lamia mini-boss battle doesn't require you to kill the smaller mobs. Just like with the Phantom mini-boss, the mobs die as soon as the boss itself does.

43:45 Well yes, for the most part Hades is not “evil.” But at the time when they were worshiped and people were making stories about them, neither were Zeus or Hera. It’s only in our modern interpretations that their actions seem sour. It’s also important to understand that Hades and Persephone’s “love story” has also been heavily modernized. It was a WHOLE lot less consensual in the original sources. So Hades isn’t evil, but he did (in the original myths) kidnap and assault his niece, then later cheat on her with a nymph named Minthe… so not scot-free either…

35:10 good news. The non mini-boss snake women actually just die if you kill the main one. So you could have gotten either mini-boss, though the snake one does seem a LOT harder for this challenge.

35:10 You actually only need to take out the big lamia in the center. I believe it's the same with the Hydra fight, the trash mobs simply instantly die once the boss is gone.

a duo boon from apollo and aphrodite will let you restore 3 health per second by doing absolutely nothing... that might have helped i guess

In case you ever need to know this. SPOILERS FOR FINAL FIGHT
Before you can get a fix for the pausing thing in game. If you window out (alt tab) you can pause the whole program which the game can’t do anything about. I just know if I were you I would cry having to sit in one spot for 50 minutes no breaks

@@JackOfAllGame well... there is an upgrade to Frinos, our froggy friend, where he does 10 damage when he lands on someone... LMAO. In some ways it might be easier than with Toula since you kind of can control where he lands? But it might take a LOT longer either way since that's only 10% damage. Maybe it can be upgraded to do more damage, but I haven't tried.

I tried, but I'm afraid that as Frinos currently is, it is an impossible task😭
Amazing run. Idk why the cat is programmed to run away after using all attacks. Feels unnecessarily annoying. Why didn't you take skelly tooth for your final keepsake? You could have had an extra DD for the final boss. Especially since the silk sash went away very fast.
I probably should've, I'm pretty sure I just didn't have it unlocked at the time of recording? But if I did have it unlocked - I definitely should've used it lol
@@JackOfAllGame you could have also taken Odysseus knuckle bones instead. it reduces boss health and decreases damage taken from the boss. might have helped against Chronos. if you do a future challenge run, I recommend this!

53:45 if I'm not mistaken there is an item you can craft to be able to pause at his fight, kinda useless information now that you've already done this without it
