    I started a class a week ago for an introduction to quilting. I've since finished my project at home feeling disheartened at how awful it looked. I cut the squares right and yet sewing them together was not right. I was told that quilting has to be precise. Even a cm out will mess up a project. The project was to make a star. I didn't feel like attending the next session. But since seeing your tutorial, it has made me feel I can enjoy quilting without it being that accurate. I like the idea of being able to use my scraps whatever measurement they are. Thank you for sharing.

      @teresadownunder  2 роки тому +2

      Absolutely. Quilting is to be enjoyed. Maybe you can start with easier blocks than a star and build your skills slowly.

      @@teresadownunder I will definitely try that. I have unfortunately joined on the 2nd session of the all levels class so I guess, they did the easy one which I missed.

    Love your videos! You make it look so easy! But I do have to point out that this is not truly "quilt as you go" because there's no backing used, so you still need to quilt it after you layer it with the backing. But thanks so much for all the great inspiration and clear demonstrations!

    Theresa,
    I wonder if you have done a quilt using those beautiful Japanese fabrics, with gold, beautiful birds, butterflies, blooming flowers ? I received few fabrics as such and have no idea how to showcase them in a quilt, maybe a wall quilt versus bed quilt (?)
    If you did a video on anything like that or know someone else who did, I would appreciate any idea or suggestion. TYIA.

    I am a beginner quilter. I appreciate your videos - I have learned a lot. Two quick (newbie) questions: 1. Do you use your walking foot when you are doing QAYG and 2. What size needle do you recommend for this method? Thanks very much!

    • @teresadownunder
      @teresadownunder  5 років тому +1

      For QAYG I use my 1/4 quilting foot if I need it as a guide. I use an embroidery needle for all my quilting. I got into the habit when I did stipple quilting for a while and had problems with thread breaking.

    Your close up captioned "stitch in the ditch" isn't. You are stitching a small distance away from the seam. "Stitch in the ditch, at least in the US, means stitching right on the seam line, which makes the stitches invisible (except where one wobbles.)

    I need help. first time ever sewing.been practicing hand sewing pieces of fabric to foundation fabric ,which I like doing.now I have started a small quilt for my cat. I have cut out her name and want to sew the letters made out of fabric onto the foundation piece with black fabric between and around the edge of her name so it stands out.I want to join the letters onto the black as you would when joining random scraps together ie with a seam,then press open and join another piece.but it is not working out after a time.the black piece of fabric separating the next letter is already joined to the previous one and I am left holding the actual letter to join on ,not the reverse. oh hell,I hope you understand all this,I am about to shoot myself.I can see why I was not meant to sew. I am taking all of it apart and my heart is breaking.

    • @teresadownunder
      @teresadownunder  4 роки тому

      Hi Jan, I'm not sure if you're trying to applique the letters or trying to do foundation piecing. If you've cut out the letters then I'd say you're trying to applique with a blanket stitch. This is a demo ua-cam.com/video/bqi86fVpJ1o/v-deo.html
