Tempering Brand new crucibles with calcium & Borax

  • This day we temper brand new crucibles , 1st there soaked in calcium carbonate dried then heated in the furnace .

    Thank you. I watch a lot of casting and smelting vids and knew about using borax as a flux but much of this was new to me. Nobody else has talked about prepping crucibles that I've seen.

      Thanks Jakesmerth1919 I hope this helps works on my crucibles , there siica clay graphite crucibles you can get them most places

    Great video with very interesting ideas. I had never heard of that before. Can this be used on old crucibles?

      you can try to do this to a old crucible I haven't tried this to a old one but make sure you dry it out completely let me know how you get on , I will probably try this layer on

      No I should get a longer one !
