Just got my 038 mag going today. It was my grandfather's he just past away at 92yrs old. Also, got 2 homelite xl12's one with bow bar. Tried cranking the other day and couldnt get it going and figured the carb was bad. I watch you and Buckin squirt the fuel down the carb and got it going in about 15 mins. Ordered carb kit, new fuel line and got it going without any of it! Appreciate yalls videos. Been watching Buckin Billy Ray for a while now and turned me on yall. Been waiting on this video since I got this saw ladt week.
Sorry to hear about your grandpa. Thanks for coming over and checking out my videos. Hearing from folks like you keeps me going as its great that my videos help. Take er easy
@@tinmanssaws all good bud I have one on mine with a 28inch bar great work horse I love it and I just finished rebuilding it with a pop up piston really good compression to
That carb grommet with the hose is for compensation for a dirty air filter or what Stihl calls intellicarb. I believe it was first introduced on the MS380.
@@edwingroening5087 last I looked at the IPL I believe you can buy the parts to convert older 038’s to have intellicarb. I don’t really see the point personally, I know when my air filter is getting plugged up.
Gotta say, they aren't the fastest cutters but I'm a sucker for the old school throaty muscle saws. I love my Homelite SXL-925, you can lean your whole body weight on the thing and it doesn't slow down at all... although it wasn't going all that fast to start with.
I wanna see that thing chew up that ash tree! Just finished rebuild and porting a 12mm 044 a few more heat cycles and it should be ready to eat some wood, can’t wait
Had a couple stihl saws the fuel hose makes a hard 90 into the carb Aftermarket fuel line kinks after a while I shove a pen spring down to the middle of molded bend works great
How and where do you stamp your pistons , when you work on them ? Great channel I put a modified muffler on a old 3400 Poulan just for fun and sold it to a guy who loves it. Thanks again
Nice job on that saw!! Would be interesting to see that saw pull a 32" bar!! I have an ms382 That I run a 25" hardnose bar on,the dealer where I am don't sell any rollernose bar
Great tip on the chain break and weak spring correlation. Also great channel. Question if you don’t mind. I have an immaculate 038 prob only 18 hours on her. Stored dry, dry tanks also. Run at least every other year. Dads old saw. Everything is original and seems to work perfectly. If I leave it on its side (saw turned off and cold) with gas in the tank, some of the gas, just a bit leaks into the air filter area. Also if I hold the saw upside down. - similar thing. Otherwise no gas leaking issues. Is this just normal or hints of issues? Thanks in advance Pal.

I was wondering about that since my 038 mag doesn't have that.

I have this same saw and love it. Great job Tinman !!! 👍
I have the same Mac screwdriver and I use it all the time for the same sort of tasks. 👍

Great to see another older legend brought back to life👍 excited to see her in the wood!
Always Prime for a good Time!!
Good Job Tinman , can’t wait to see her with the 32“ in the Wood.
I got my 038 Mag 30 years ago. She pulls hard with a sharp skip tooth.
That’s a good sounding Saw, nice Job!
Great content MR Tinman .All the best to you all.

Nice build. Can wait to see some FabWilly spikes on it. TC Tinman Mahalo 🤙🤙🤙

That's where this saw is going. Gotta buck up all that wood.
Thanks!
Thankyou Fat Matt!!
Just watching that thing idle you can tell its gonna be nasty. Good to see it running finally!! Very nice.
Sure love the sound of a ported saw
Me to buddy.

Good idea, particularly on 029, and 066.
I loved everything about my 026 except the airfilterchokestartpreventer.
Great to see this saw come back to life.
Man I have a stihl 038 AV Magnum 2 that needs some love.
Great video as always! I really appreciate your discussion regarding the perception of high compression immediately after a new build. Very well said!
Back together n lookn good buddy love it . good job as always.have a good week.
SHELL BE A VERY RELIABLE SAW THEY RUN NICE ,,great job TINMAN I'm sure fabwilly will be more then happy
Mornin Stevie
Top job, Tin Man 👍🏼
Awesome video Tinman love that saw !
Definitely a smart move on changn the crank seals.
nice well done
Great video tinman good work
sounds really good.
On first fire hold or tie the throttle wide open, it works.

Great content
it's a stihl theyall take many pulls i dont like the aircleaner choke , they suck, good job runs great
easier if you pull the carb boot thru with the string before you bolt the cylinder down.
Tinman brother. How you doin? ❤ from PNW oregon
It sounds very good!!
saw turned out great...looking forward to seeing it in the wood...a decent saw for your buddy for sure🦾
How is the no smoking going my friend? Thinking about you today and I hope all is well with your wife. Great video 👍👍
Haven't had one yet
@@tinmanssaws keep it going. Prayers for you and your wife. You are doing great 👍🙏

It's probably just the breather venting. It's a small tube on the left hand side of the carb box.
My 038 av magnum 2 is flooding before it can start and poors gas out of the muffler. I am guessing it just needs a carb rebuild?
Tinman, can you help me find some parts for a huskavarna 45 special. I need a chain brake.
Thumbs up 👍 love the saw .
Sounds 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
Take care with using carb cleaner in closed spaces. It's more damaging to lungs and eyes than cigarettes over time.
What you think about the combi-can? does the spring loaded self stop poring spout thing work ok?
I like it so far. Haven't used th3 spring loaded thingy yet.
I’m just wondering, doesn’t Stihl say to pronounce their name ‘steel’?
Consider attempting to trim some trees 🌳
Tinman would you happen to have a source for McCulloch parts ? Primarily the starter dogs for the recoil. A phone number would be great. Thank you.
Do you sell saws?
What are you goin to do for a pipe for it
Haven't decided yet
Amazing content as always tinman. How's the wife getting along? Hope all is well
She's doing great, thanks for asking
@@tinmanssaws glad to hear it.
Did you get a muffler for it?
That's the muffler that came on it.
Is that pretty much the same as a 440 magnum?
It's the same displacement but other then that it's completely different.
nuts
Hows the Jeep and is it still running good
Jeeps been great
Terra Tombada (part. Chitãozinho & Xororó)
Cezar & Paulinho
Hard to beat any 0model stihls but I think I like a 041 somewhat better
