Welcome to the 70s when music was fun. This one of those songs that just brings a big smile to my face. There's a lot of great pop bands from this time. Edison Lighthouse "Love Grows", Looking Glass "Brandy", Shocking Blue, "Venus", Steam "Na Na Hey Hey", King Harvest "Dancing in the Moonlight". Thanks guys.
They've already done Brandy, Dancing, Venus, and Love Grows. Couldn't find the Steam song though, that would be a good one for them.
To that list of fun 70s songs I have to add another fave of mine, Get Down by Gilbert O' Sullivan. I have suggested it in the comments before, really hope they get to it!!
told you once before and i won't tell you no more... forgot about that one. thanks.
Happy to oblige! :) @@RasorZedge
I always loved Beautiful Sunday by Daniel Boone!.
People were happy back then unlike today. This is just feel-good music.
WOW - What a BLAST from the PAST!!! GREAT PICK, YOU-GUYS!!! Hadn't heard this in YEARS!!! Thanks for the Great Reactions!! Hugs!!❤❤❤❤❤
Took the WOW out of my mouth.....
@jude. The last time I heard this song, was in an episode of The Wonder Years in the early 90s. There's a scene where Kevin and Winnie are eating at a Pizza joint, while HDYD plays softly on a Jukebox. 😊
@@oldiesgeek454 I think I REMEMBER that episode!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣❤❤❤❤❤
@@davidjones6389 If I'm not mistaken: it may have been IN STEREO!!! 🤣🤣🤣❤❤❤❤❤
@@Jude_196 Maybe I'll do some research and see if I can find out the name of it. It's too bad they stopped showing reruns of that show.
No. 1 hit in their native Netherlands and Europe; #2 in Canada, and cracked the US top 10. Hella earworm when it came out!
My dad actually knew the singer through a cousin who sometimes drummed for him in the background band. Also, my mom and dad were once mistaken for Mouth and Macneal when they went out one time, because they were similarly dressed like them. Yeah, those were the seventies, kids !
A personal favorite!! Mouth looks and sounds like one of those life-size Muppets. Catchy as hell.
true but both of these artists could sing and have great voices.
🤣 -xD !-
Mouth = Dr. Teeth?!? It would make sense! LOL!!
Sweetums?
@@jancw exactly!! 😂
Sometimes a song just doesn’t have to mean anything, just have a good vibe, to hook you forever. ✌️
Exactly, that's the power of music👍✌️
"I Am The Walrus"
Mouth & MacNeal were a pop duo from Holland. "How Do You Do" peaked @ #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1972. A follow-up single charted @ #87. That was it. (In the USA).
That was it in the US.
Different story around the world.
Jeez, I was born in 1972 and never ever heard this song before! Lol of course we had no internet until around 1997 so we have an excuse for not hearing a lot of music that came out in the 50s-70s lol
@@DPRyan-vd5pp Yikes! I was in college in 1972 and I never ever heard this record either! I can hardly believe that it was in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and, after all these years, have no memory of ever hearing it played anywhere! (Unless the clapping & beer hall vibe in the video clip changes the sound of the original record significantly?)
That was enough for me! What a wonderful song.
In 1974, they came 3rd in the Eurovision Song Contest with 'I See A Star'. ABBA won with 'Waterloo'.
And Abba only won by 6 points over the Italian entry. Just think how different pop music would be if Abba hadn't won.
Maybe you're about to fall into the Eurovision Song Contest. A few famous people have performed in it over the years.
Olivia Newton John, Celine Dion & Engelbert Humperdinck to name three of them.
Actually, "I See A Star" would be a great Mouth & MacNeal song for Jay & Amber to react to. Another one would be by Willem's later pairing with Ingrid Kup as Big Mouth & Little Eve performing "Uncle". Now that is a catchy song that you can't help but sing along with.
Have any of you ever heard of Champagne? Another Dutch group with two great songs "Rock N Roll Star" and "Valentino". Very ABBA-esque!
I was five when it came out. For over 40 years it haunted me, just the beat of the choirs stuck in my head randomly playing and I could not find the song. It stemmed from the summer of my 6th birthday a great one involving a trip to the beach with my best friend and family. I can easily remember the hot backseat of my best friends moms 1960s round back Volvo that smelled like PeanutButter. A beautiful summer day on our way to meet up with my family at the beach for a BBQ. This song playing as we drove and talked about the coming Hydro plain races and the Stock car races soon after that we were all invited to. The song would be forever tied to that day, but I could never remember more than the choirs. On my 45th birthday my daughter, after herring me humming the choirs over and over and asking about it some months before, somehow found it and got me it on iTunes. This song will ALWAYS be in my heart.
Thank you for sharing this special memory!
Same here, we appear to be the same age then.
This is one of those songs you remember when you were a kid and have no idea who did it or who they were. Remember young folk of today, it was only radio then, maybe you could see them on a show like TOTP or Bandstand but usually kids younger than teenagers weren't watching those shows and you'd likely not catch groups at this level very often on TV (outside the UK).
I grew up in the US and for years didn't know the names of songs from my early childhood or who sang them. The DJs rarely said the names of songs or artists that I remember. But I was quite little then so maybe I might have missed some.
This started playing and I instantly remembered all the words 😁
@@shelq3814 Until the advent of the Internet search engine where I could search lyrics I remembered, there were tons of songs I remembered but didn't know who performed them. Strangely, many of them were by (The) Sweet: Little Willy, Fox on the Run to name two. That was one great benefit of the Internet.
Oh gosh, I was so afraid you were going to shred this song to bits... SO GLAD you liked it. This song is just one of those songs you cannot help but sing and clap along to. It draws you in, she has a sweet delivery and the flirtatious tone of it just makes it awesome. Thanks for this reaction.
Daniel Boone:
“Beautiful Sunday”
So perky!!
I have a memory of riding in my dad's GTO, with this blaring from the radio and all of us singing along. It makes me smile.
Thanks for playing this one
That word/phrase "Na-na Nana" is doing a LOT of work in this song as a euphemism for sexytimes.😁😁 My family was traveling through Europe in the summer of 1973, and this was a HUGE hit in Europe back then.
She was a cutie pie!!!!! They had several great different videos of this song! Glad to see you choose a video, instead of the studio version!!!!
Delaney and Bonnie:
“Never Ending Song Of Love”
Sweet duet
My mom loved this song. She passed last May 16th, 2022 at the age if 73.
Sorry for your loss.
How could I forget this song? Such fun!!!
Another great Dutch act, along with Focus (Hocus Pocus) and Golden Earring. This is such a great song . The vocals and arrangement are awesome!
...and the George Baker Selection, a 1970s Dutch group that had US hits like "Paloma Blanca" and "Little Green Bag," which Tarantino used as the opening theme in Reservoir Dogs.
The Tee Set with their hit “Ma Belle Amie” is another great Dutch musical act.
And to add another Dutch band: Lucifer with “House For Sale”.
I MEANT THIS IS OUR TYPE OF MUSIC AMBER !!!! PURE 70'S!!!!!!
Not all pop gets a bad rap Amber. Today’s pop is what is terrible.
Today’s pop should be called poop

This was one of the first 45s I ever bought. Thanks for the memories!
Damn. Heard it as a kid almost 50 years ago and never again till now. Amazed how those memories are still locked in there.
Once you hear it, it never leaves you. You end up thinking about it randomly throughout your life. It's such a wonderful, happy, catchy tune.
Instant Party Man! that was the 1970's people ,A party time could occur anywhere anytime! LOL!
So glad I grew up in the 60's and 70's! We had the best music ever.
YES!!!! I'm SURPRISED this was picked, and THIS VIDEO VERSION! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👍🏻😄💥POP💥
This has been stuck in my head since 1972!
In about 1970 when I was a kid I remember this and “United we stand” on the radio.
i know so many are familiar with 80s music. but the 70s were a real special and unique time for music. i guess cuz i grew up with it
I probably hadn't heard this in 50 years. Didn't recognize the opening, but that chorus - can't ever forget it :).
I haven't hear this in a million years. One of those songs you'd hear on the radio driving to work.
I remember this song from early early childhood
Me and a buddy had left one of those parties of which Amber was speaking 1971ish.
This song, that we had never heard, came on the car radio.
Within 60 seconds we were popping the dash in time to the beat and singing.
We couldn't help ourselves.
Nice blast from the past.
Loved this so much. Another great 70’s pop song is Sugar Baby Love by the Rubettes with an amazing falsetto
Lee Michaels:
“Do You Know What I Mean?”
Great one!
In the 70's we had "Purple Jesus" parties where everyone brought their own alcohol but it was thrown into a communal tub and everyone drank from it. Good Times!!!!
Top of the Pops in Europe when i was growing up in Belgium.Always played the best stuff
63 year old fan from Iowa
Such a great happy song from my childhood! Fun for any age really! Kids can sing it obviously but then a good pub drinking song too! Puppets seem to enjoy it as well!
This is a song from when I was a young teenager ... very good memories!
How do you not smile when listening to this??
MAN....I totally forgot about this song.
If you ever find this , THOSE WERE THE DAYS MY FRIEND. Listen to it. Even if it's not on your show 🥰
Nice one-hit wonder, in the US anyway 1971.
edit- an excellent one-hit wonder from the same year was Lee Michael's "Do You Know What I Mean"!!
-the states here !-
That little girl that "Mouth" dances with and lifts into the air, if she still lives, remembers that moment in every tiny detail to this day.
I was 7 when this song came out. It was a catchy song and at 7 wasnt a music critic lol but you find yourself humming it
, is yours and Mine Tipe of MUSIC!!!! PURE 70'S !!!!!!!
Man, I had totally forgotten about this song and group!
Jonathan Edwards :
“Sunshine (Go Away Today)”!!
Great one
Wow! I never thought I'd see a reaction video of this song! And, I've NEVER seen a video for it! LOL I'm glad you gave this one a try. Just a good fun time song.
Oh boy. According to my parents I was crazy about this song as a little kid and made them play it over and over again ...
I haven’t heard this song in probably nearly 50 years. I never even knew who sang it, and I had never seen the video. This song is a perfect example of how fun, and simple the 70s were. Of all the decades I’ve lived through, the 70s are definitely the decade I would relive if I could.
Me too, if I ever win the lottery I'll buy a house and have it decorated '70s style, seriously.
70s Europop is in the chat! Middle of the Road and their hit "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" and The Tee Set "Ma Belle Amie". Your brain will never forget them.
In America Chirpy was a hit by Mac and Katie Kissoon.
Pussycat and their hit Mississippi
Oh I’ve always loved this one!!!!!
SAME HERE!!!!!
This is one of my absolute favorite pop tunes. It's an irresistibly catchy slice of '70s Europop. They had many more catchy songs as well that did well in Europe. After they broke up, Maggie MacNeal became a solo act and really showed everyone what a powerful voice she has. I suggest you react to her singing "When You're Gone" for a good example of her pipes.
She took part in the Eurovision Song Contest later solo with "Amsterdam" in 1980.
@@LarryFleetwood8675 Yes, I almost mentioned "Amsterdam," too. I've watched it on UA-cam a few times and really like it.
AHahaha! OH MY! I haven't heard that song in FOREVER! And yes, you HAVE to sing along with this. Great reaction. It's so funny because I was thinking about how clean and family friendly this song was, then Amber comes along and says the same thing.
Mouth & MacNeal's 'How Do You Do' is an absolute classic that never gets old. The song was written by the band's guitarist, Hans van Hemert, and was released in 1972? It reached number one in several countries, including Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The song has been covered by many artists over the years, but the original version remains the best.
Yes Mouth (Willem Duyn) is the man and Maggie MacNeal (Sjoukje van't Spijker or Sjoukje Smit) is the woman. She does get a moment to show what she can do here. This is an extremely fun, catchy tune that is hard not to join in to. I was 11 when it came out and sang along whenever it came on the radio. I hadn't seen this video before. I have seen a few with Mouth "playing" the violin that you hear in a funny bit. Glad you enjoyed it.
One of my all time favorites since I was a little kid!!
This song will always put you in a good mood.
What a flashback! I remember my brother and I using the coffee table in the living room as a stage and singing along with this song 😊
Lol Mouth and MacNeal. Haven’t heard this in eons!! The 70s just hit different
I swear, I haven't so much as heard that song for 50 years. Seriously, I mean it was "one hit wonder" that did fabulously well. Wow!
Another fun song is Shame Shame Shame by Shirley & Company. Real fun dance song. ❤❤
I used to love this song. It was so goofy but good at the same time brought back a lot of memories. Thanks my friends.
1970’s pop music was fun, unlike the angry, in-your-face music we see today.
So called "pop" has been the backbone of the music industry since Chuck Berry, Elvis and the Beatles. Pop is after all short for popular and there's nothing wrong with that when it's done well with musicians, writers and producers who care about their craft.
I have liked this song for a half a century. And yes, this video has always impressed me as a real life precursor to the Muppet show.
I'm 55. I have never heard of these guys or this song. It's so fun.
THis was EXTREMELY popular while I was stationed in Germany! The dance floor would rock! Add a couple liters of good German Fest Bier and you have a party!
I remember this when I was in junior high school.
This was such a fun song. He had such a great voice.
I remember buying this record back in 1972. No hand claps on the original, though.
For real NO HAND CLAPS in the original. The claps in this video are actually annoying, cause I LOVE THIS SONG!!
@@islandgreenstrong Amber and J keep forgetting that these songs were way before music videos. So some of these odd vids they see have these horrible add-ons like the clapping.
@@carlaglewen5348 The clapping was the live sound from the audience, it's from a German TV New Years show going into either 1973 or 1974 I think, so they were performing the song here well after it'd been a hit.
@@LarryFleetwood8675 Right. And it's a fun version, but it's the kind of song I'll always prefer as the original track that got radio play. Probably more nostalgia than anything else. 🙂
I love pop too! My favourite flavours are Grape and Cherry.
Oh Haven't heard this in years! Such a fun song!
The way the two of you are dancing and having a great time to this song is awesome. I love how his face goes from “oh no not this.. to ☝️☝️ is great!
Not a lot of lyrics, but I remember this as a unique and upbeat song from 1972.
And it didn't get airplay, so I basically never heard it again until the Internet came about.
They broke up a few years after this. "Mouth" died in 2004, but Maggie McNeal is reportedly still touring.
This was a big hit when it came out, such a catchy tune
great selection ! I thought I remember this 70's gem
Mad props to whoever recommended this one. Loving it!
What did I just watch?!?! LMAO Hilarious...I missed this when I was a kid in 1972. Love the energy!
Pure early 1970s fun! Mouth and MacNeal! Loved that catchy fun song! Also loved her shag haircut! So many guys and gals got this cut in 1971. We were cool fifteen year-olds!
That's why we don't see any movies made now taking place in '71 or '72, I'm not sure they could even do styles like that today... lol
I have this 45!! What a great song this was back in the day
I remember it from local AM pop radio of the early 70's.
One-Hit Wonder (in the US at least).
Have not heard this song in forever and that video was a hoot-and-a-half! Always a sucker for a song with some good na-nas in it.
First rule of parties in the 70s is they don't talk about the parties in the 70s! No social media, you lived it or you weren't there! our parents had a great time back then that's all I know.🤣
Thanx guys. I'd completely forgotten bout this one. It was all o er the radio bout 1972 or so.Thanx again. I can't stop grinnin.
I'm back. What was so hilarious? This was a feel good song. She wasn't bein catty, bitchy, slutty, and he wasn't bein no ho'dog. This song had a lotta heart. I miss that. We need to get that back again, but I'm just an old fart. Nobody listens to me anymore.
Oh my! Haven't heard in a long time. Fun song. Psychedelic bar music indeed. Great stuff.
Another winner 🎶
I'm glad you did it with the video. Such a 70s thing. Kids in the bar LOL
I remember listening to this in my mom’s station, on the radio!
Early 70’s.
This is cool I remember listening to this in the 70s as a kid i must have been about 10 good times indeed
Yes! I can die happy now :) as a kid living in Germany in the 70's I loved this song. Thanks for the reaction Rob Squad! This song makes me so happy every time I hear it.
A blast from the past thank you ! Please do not forget Jimmy Buffett RIP this was a great loss!
I know it might be too slow for Jay but a reaction to Come Monday would be great
wow, that was a blast from the past, thank you. much Love Blessings and Peace
Another reason why radio was cool in the 70s. One hit wonders. Try The Last song by Edward Bear from Canada 🇨🇦
The GREAT Willem Duyn & Maggie MacNeal. Willem was quite the showman!!! While this was their only big hit in the US, they had quite a few hits in other countries. If you want to see one of their best videos, check out the video for their hit "Hello-A".
-the states here !-
Yes, that was their next big hit and it's just as good, in fact most of their singles were very good this was right in the middle of the glam rock era and their music has a bit of that to it also.
I 😍 loved this song so much when I was a kid❤!!
I haven’t heard this song probably since the seventies. Brought a smile to my face. I had to listen to it a second time. Yes Amber, good clean fun!
