I love the way you lay it out on the screen. For the advanced player that already knows the chords, can you show us some runs (played between chords). I can do chords, but cannot figure out the beautiful runs I hear on the PSG.

Much gratitude Troy... yesterday was day 1. I'm using my bare fingers for moment as it feels like way more control for me...that long thump pick feels so foreign to me as well as the finger picks...but I know i'm gonna have to put em on sooner or later :(
I would like to find a thumb pick that's "shorter" and more "rounded" if possible..been playing rock traditional guitar for 40 plus years
We need a video of how to maintain the guitar, what to keep lubricated, what to use, things like that. Dos and don'ts. I have looked for one but cannot not find any.

hey neat-o! i have never even touched a pedal steel guitar, but i just kind of wanted to get an overview of how it works (tunings & neck) and this video helped...i think its a great sound that could be exploited in genres other than country more often...so rarely we hear it elsewhere, and even when you do, it often refers to that "rural" country kind of atmosphere...i think the instrument could be processed in a way that sounds more avant garde or experimental too... :)

Troy, did you ever contemplate playing the Pedal Steel in the Jimmy Day setup (ergonomically correct), rather than the Emmon's way, that is a bit difficult, as far as contortionist is concerned. JMHO.... I was instructed at day 1 to do this, by a great player.
This extremely helpful! However, I think the first lesson should be setup and tuning, especially pedal tuning.

Great, my B string isn't bending all the was up to C# when I press the A and B pedals, and it doesn't come all the way back down to B when I let go...

I have had no musical experience whatsoever and I’ve heard that most people learn lap steel or know the basics of accoustic guitar before learning pedal steel. Is it possible for someone like me to start learning pedal steel or would you recommend learning lap steel first? Thank you.

Aiden it isn't necessary to have previous musical experience to play pedal steel. Sure, it puts you ahead as far as theory, but that's about it.
The pedal steel is its own monster, lol. I hope you've made the move to begin your journey. Did you ever start playing?
But I would like to see only Steel guitar lessons and guitar lessons when they play a song we need to know what tuning they’re playing the song and we can find the card but we need to know the tuning if it’s the sixth open ED or whatever but we need to know the toning for each song be nice to have that posted

It seems to me that this lesson is designed for the absolute "beginner" (as he labels it). In my experience teaching music, it is like teaching a set of athletic skills: you start with basic motions that enable you to do something, then add a repertoire of more motions, then learn to use them in combinations in dynamic and less predictable situations. Here he just shows the absolute basics, but maybe you can find other lessons that would suit your needs if you look around.

Play pedal steel guitar for years they have to learn how to hold the bar I put the pics on their fingers what you're showing them is is scaring them and confusing them they won't understand that just teaching like Jeff Newman does they'll understand

Pay for one of his lessons and you will see. I was skeptical until I did one. He went through all the time to make charts, tabs, backing tracks, and the videos and they do really help. Im sure it took quite a bit of work. You can get all 10 for $72.00 which is a hell of a deal when normal live lessons would run you $40 an hour.
well the poor guy gotta survive somehow...im a percussionist and even im interested! would you spend hours preparing lessons for free!...the old addage....time is money!

Seriously though? Practically everything new I've learned on guitar that I didn't figure out for myself has been from free youtube videos.
