What an excellent intro to lap steel and C6. I've played standard guitar for 40+ years and recently became curious about lap steel. This was an easy-to-understand lesson, thanks, I'll continue watching/liking/subscribing.
Love your lessons Troy, I'm a complete beginner and I never played a string instrument,I've played drums for over 50yrs and now I'm trying to learn to play the steel, knowing that I'll never be a great player your lessons are very much appreciated, thank you.
Saw a guy busking a few weeks ago at local farmer market playing a steel lap resonator guitar and was amazing! Now I want to eventually learn to play one especially after watching David Gilmour play one for Pink Floyd.
Hello Troy! I am very excited about your lesson. Very thorough and "stick to the point." Many here on UA-cam are flying around between many things and breaking all the time out of what the lesson is all about, when they just remember something that not nessesarely fit to the lesson!! I like your way mutch better!!! I want to ask you "what is the most common string height for a lap steel guitar" (To the "frettboard", or the nut hight)? Thank you for passin your knowledge on! Cheers
Thanks for your video. It is very instructive. I am browsing to learn playing new musical instruments and lap steel guitar has currently attracted my attention. I like both blues and C&W and I understand these styles use different tuning on lap steel. Is it thus possible with the same set of strings to play both styles (subsequently)? Which tuning do you recommend? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Daniel.
Hey Troy, can you show us what your reverb and delay pedals look like in a separate video? I'm having a hard time getting a good lap steel sound from my Guyatone C6 Lap Steel with my Guitar Zoom 505 effects pedal. I probably need a volume pedal too. Thanks.
Troy Brenningmeyer I just got my first lap steel guitar , an Eastwood Airline Pro , and I am an absolute beginner . What key would you suggest I start learning with ? Many thanks to you , sir .
Hey Troy! I wanted to purchase part 1 and 2 of your first C6 Lap Steel Lessons, but I could not find anywhere on your website how long the lessons are. I want to know so that I can determine if the lessons are worth the price (which I'd imagine they are). I'm sure other customers would want to know as well. I've watched a lot of your demo videos on UA-cam and I am a big fan. You make everything really clear. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this lesson, I was struggling to even start playing, this is a great lesson even though I have no understanding of scales or triads I feel I can make a start 😀 x
A Rogue isn't a bad beginner lap steel. And if you don't want to put a lot of money into something better like a Duesenberg or a Wiessenborn, the Rogue can be upgraded with a humbucker pickup to get better tone.
Troy, I assume this is an old question for you. But would you please discuss your choice of your bar? I have gone back and forth from the traditional round bar, to the larger type you use. Why do you use that type? Is it more difficult to do slants? Is it a better grip issue? What brand is the bar? Thank you
how do I achieve a string pitch of 4 °, 5 ° and 6 °? do I need to invert the strings or tune in a lower tone? I'm having trouble with these strings, to achieve the same tuning as you.
Troy where can I find the ghs strings you’re using? I can’t seem to find the exact ones . I’m new to lap steel guitar and the stores around me have no clue , and try to change my instrument but I’m determined went to a local shop and the tech put on waaay rock n roll strings could you send me a link ???
Mate. I own a Duesenberg Fairytale. Immaculate sound. You must decide the type of tuning for you. Each tuning (D...G...E.....C6) all have different string sets to achieve the tuning and that works the same for every lap steel made by all makers. Check Morrell in Ebay or website. C6 Tuning (this one here) is usually 15 to 36. There should be a product sign on the package to identify the tuning of the string set.
Hi, I cant find lap strings in New Zealand, and the closest I can see on ebay has a 20 gauge instead of a 22, is that ok to use. At the moment using ordinary electric guitar strings I keep breaking them trying to tune to C6. Im currently in open e and open d
C-6 sets can be had through ...... Elderly.com ...... or ........ Tom Morrells' site (JMLS-C6 ..... 3sets under 20 bucks ...... you might have to call and order 'cause the site sometimes won't accept cards ....... )
You have the frets numbered however you're placing the bar between the frets. Cindy Cashdollar does the same thing and she believes this the correct way to place the bar. My old teacher Mary Smith taught me differently. I guess if it works for you then why not. Jerry Byrd used the C6 tuning and would defend his claim that he was the first to do so.
I'm trying to learn to play my lap guitar it's from 1946 or 1947...
It was my Dad's guitar...
I appreciate your lesson

Wow! Thx sir. Not everyone can teach ... you can. And you do it nicely & easily. Cheers to you!
I got a Rogue off of Amazon a couple of years ago, and I love it. Great tone!
Thank you for this lesson. It already taught me something invaluable.
Great start! Really looking forward to checking this out.
I just bought one of these laps to start on. Hope to benefit from your lessons Troy
Saw a guy busking a few weeks ago at local farmer market playing a steel lap resonator guitar and was amazing! Now I want to eventually learn to play one especially after watching David Gilmour play one for Pink Floyd.
Nice video. It helped me understand the C7 tuning.
YOU ARE THE BEST! THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR GREAT VIDEOS!
Very good lesson to tell you all about gauge of strings which was all new to me for a
lap.

How would i play it with other guitarist's playing chords? I'm extremely new to slide.
I've got one of those buddies too. Just put new CTS pots on it, works better than new.

C6-8 string. Tune 6 center strings CEGACE. 2 outer strings G,& G. The little G #12 is really handy. You'll love it.
My cup of joe! ;-) Thank you!
Troy Brenningmeyer I just got my first lap steel guitar , an Eastwood Airline Pro , and I am an absolute beginner . What key would you suggest I start learning with ? Many thanks to you , sir .
You teach well..............
Troy, wondering if you could do a Boot Scootin Boogie Lesson. It's one of the most iconic lines ever and i would love love love to learn it. Thanks
I think the guy who played on boot scooting boogie used open G tuning like a dobro.
Nice pacing on the lesson.

I just read this 😂 Troy it’s 2020 please answer my question ...
Thank you so much for this lesson, I was struggling to even start playing, this is a great lesson even though I have no understanding of scales or triads I feel I can make a start 😀 x
Its an airline rocket guitar, sounds nice
Very good lesson, illuminating to me. One of times when something clicks.
does it have a built in amplifier?
Just bought a "converter bridge" so I can convert my old strat to a lap top. Will see how it works out.
I did that, and play with it for a while, then I bought a Rouge off eBay, I am happy with it

What's the best beginner lap Steel NEW Production for a 53 y/o novice Guitar/ Decent Bass player who LOVES COUNTRY???
Troy, I assume this is an old question for you. But would you please discuss your choice of your bar? I have gone back and forth from the traditional round bar, to the larger type you use. Why do you use that type? Is it more difficult to do slants? Is it a better grip issue? What brand is the bar? Thank you
The best one in my opinion is the Dunlop Lap Dawg. That's the bar that really made things come together for me.
Nice and simple to understand . Can a regular electric guitar be converted to lap steel ? ?
You can. You can grab a nut extender off amazon for cheap. Get a steel bar and you're set
Can you please tell me what model of lap steel you used?
Artisan, I believe.....
Do you have to learn regular guitar before learning lap guitar?
looking for tabs Haverst Moon on C6 lap steel any lessons on it ?
how do i order this c6 lesson
Did I miss the gauge of the strings?
Alguem poderia legendar ou dublar esta video aula para o portugues
how do I achieve a string pitch of 4 °, 5 ° and 6 °? do I need to invert the strings or tune in a lower tone? I'm having trouble with these strings, to achieve the same tuning as you.
You have to use C6 gauge strings. If you don't, the string will snap or the neck will warp.
Troy where can I find the ghs strings you’re using? I can’t seem to find the exact ones . I’m new to lap steel guitar and the stores around me have no clue , and try to change my instrument but I’m determined went to a local shop and the tech put on waaay rock n roll strings could you send me a link ???
Elderly Music carries the GHS at a good price.
Is duesenberg lap guitar played and tuned in same way ? Or is there any difference between the two ?
Mate. I own a Duesenberg Fairytale. Immaculate sound. You must decide the type of tuning for you. Super newb question. What is the mat under the strings by the pickup? I've seen it elsewhere, also.

the electro hawaiian lap steel strings are like 12 bucks on amazon
What gauge is you guitar bridge to nut??
How does one print the tab you're showing on the vid?
Hi Toby, I make my living selling these lessons. If you want, you can buy it, download, and print. Thanks so much for your support!!!
Just go to www.LessonsWithTroy.com
Boa noite como fazer o curso
Hi Troy, is a different set of strings essential to switch from open D to C6, or just recommended?
Yes you would need all different gauges of strings
Can anyone tell me what kind of lap steel he is using ? I don't see a name on the tail stock.
Thanks !
Hi, it's an AIRLINE by Eastwood Guitars
Troy Brenningmeyer Thank you, Troy ! I really like the clean tone.
Troy Brenningmeyer I was going to ask the same thing. I will
also have to get one of these.
SO FAR AS i KNOW SIX STRINGS LAP GUITAR.
Artisan...I do believe...
Another site I was looking at has a different C6 tuning, (ECAGECorC#) are they both correct?
I normally name them from Thickest to Thinest string: CEGACE. It looks like that one you are talking about is named backwards.
I can't beleave I didn't notice that, thanks Troy, great videos, brand new to lap steel, I play Ukulele....Thanks
John Cacioppo Awesome! Thanks so much!
Definitely NOT C #
We call that third string (6th note) the "pineapple note" because it gives everything that Hawaiian sound!
That's GREAT!!! I'll have to use that.
Beginner question and hadnt read thru all comments, but what effects are you using playing this?
Just some reverb and a touch of delay
+Troy Brenningmeyer pLEASE TELL ME WHAT TUNING IS USING
+Felix Torres NEED TO KNOW WHAT TUNING YOU USE ORRECOMMEND. THANKS IN ADVANCE
+Felix Torres C6
what is the thing under the strings for? just to make them easier to see?
Yeah, just so you can see my picking fingers and what strings I'm playing easier.
Troy Brenningmeyer
Yeah, just so you can see the strings easier.
Cute how you put the numbers on the tape for the non-roman numeral people.
It's an optical illusion. For great intonation you play in tune by have the bar directly over the fret.
Tell me there's a steel played called "C6 Steve"
That's Steven Leach... he's from Santa Barbara, California; originally a hippie.
Fucking brilliant, kudos to you!
Sorry I didn't wait long enough on the string gauge.....
Hahaha watch this at half speed at this dude sounds high as hell
Hahaha!
That's really funny!
How do you get that sound ?
what strings do you use and what size? :)
He literally explains this 2 mins in to the lesson
