  • In this video I set up a nano freshwater shrimp tank. Neocaridina blue dream shrimp is what inhabitants I chose. The tank setup is a aquatop cube running a finnex nano hang on back filter with intake sponge, a fluval nano 3.0 light, red lava rock and black standard aquarium gravel. The plants are crypt wendtii.
    Tank parameters are as follows
    Temp: 68F
    TDS: 300
    PH: 7.0
    GH: 180
    KH: 40

If that was my tank, I'd get some natural black sand and add 1-2 inches (total) in there on top of the black gravel. I love your shrimp. When the weather is nice, I would like a few of those Dream Blue Shrimp. Pea Puffer's would do well in there with all those snails. I have 5 adorable Pes Puffer's in a 30 gal. long with waaaaay too many Platty fish. I also have a 1 gallon dedicated only to a large Merimo moss ball and a bunch of tiny pond snails (Pea Puffer treats). Want some Platty fish? They are breeding out of control and I'd like to get rid of all 50? at once. Have any suggestions? Keep the flow up in your shrimp tank. The only shrimp, crayfish creatures I've seen in the wild are in moving water. I bet they would eat baby brine shrimp. My Brine Shrimp tank, inspired by you is really cool, about a year old now. I never vacuum my shrimp tank, I only subtract 1/2 their water at once "through a very fine filter" leaving the baby brine shrimp and adults in the tank. I love that tank. It is very relaxing to watch. They look like pink and white fairies floating around, pink femals, and white males with their big eyes, and the entire bottom 1/2 of the tank except for the heater and home made bio-bubbler are covered in it. It looks like lush green moss. The algae growing insides is gorgeous and came from simply adding blue green algae powder for their 2 times daily feeding. It took a while to grow, and I do use a credit card to keep the top 1/2 from growing. I could probably grow a round window or an oval window on the front if I wanted. They don't need much Spirulina at each feeding. A pinch is way too much. I use a teeny tiny scoop and don't even fill it to the top. I still grow baby brine shrimp in 3-4 day old batches I feed to the 30 gallon long Pea Puffer/Platty tank. FREE PLATTY'S if you want them.

Pea puffer would love the snails, but would destroy the shrimp. You could try and unload the platties at a local fish store but unsure if they would take them. Also could try local fish club.

@@SCAquatics I tried to bring them back to the shop where I got them, but of course they won't take them back. I was surprised that the Pea Puffer's do not eat the fry. I think the fry is too big for them to eat. They do not eat the Ghost Shrimp either.
