Star Trek didn't initially take off because people weren't used to such an idea in the 60's... in fact, the reason the original series had a second pilot is that the studio thought the first pilot was too cerebral for audiences. Having a female first officer, etc. They wanted to get rid of Spock because of his "satanic" appearance, they felt it wouldn't sit well with the bible belt south. Then you had the interracial crew, in the 60's, having a black woman in such a position of power was groundbreaking. Star Trek also addressed contemporary issues, just set them in a futuristic setting. Star Trek is for people who don't want to see explosions and conflict every two seconds. :)

Better is subjective. They appeal to different audiences. They also are vastly different in their own right. Star Trek is an optimistic view for humanity's future. Star Wars is a good vs. evil type thing.
Star Trek : Futuristic Sci-fi Star Wars : Fantasy Sci-fi I like em both but I prefer Star Wars more because cause of thee things Darth Vader Darth Revan And BABY YODAA!
Darth Vader was a waste of time character with no real purpose. He was supposed to bring balance to the Force and he completely failed. As a matter of fact the first 6 movies are completely meaningless because the First Order came about and Palpatine was still alive. Mostly, Star Wars is a meaningless go nowhere story that has no reason to exist.
@rangers94ism Darth Vader was Manipulated into going to the dark side, tho Palpantine hidden as the senate was not known until Anakin turned evil.Still Many opinions are Theirs and what they think
@@rangers94ism baby yoda rules also Darth revan is way better than Vader storywise. Vader may be iconic but his story was resolved with luke coming into play
Eric Melendez If the right behind the scenes people are in charge. Star Trek is now just for kids; and as for Star Wars, that remains to be seen what the final verdict will imply.
From what I can understand in general terms Star Trek fans are more serious sci-fi connoisseurs, than most Star Wars fans. Star War is really a standard heroes journey story set in space, it could have taken place in any time period or location. It is not an unique story, but the characters and locations make it great. That why it appeals to such a wide audience. Overall Star Trek is much more intellectual and has its own strong following in the sci-fi world. Granted I know plenty of people who are complete geeks about both. Personally I like both but I can watch the original Star Wars movies over and over again.
Star Trek hands down! For those of you that say Star Trek has no action...have you watched Deep Space nine seasons 4-7? Space battles galore amongst 5 species.
All those Star Wars fans calling Star Trek boring when they’ve only seen like one episode of TOS, there are other Star Trek shows, you know. I’ve seen almost all of the Star Wars movies and I personally prefer Star Trek, if I hadn’t seen Star Wars I wouldn’t judge it
Ok so let me get this straight when they were talking about villians and Luke said none really come to mind for Star Wars that's a load of shit what about Darth Vader or Emperor Palpatine
BOTH!!!!! I love both of them they are both the best science fiction universes out there and I grew up with both of them because why not have one without the other!!!!!
In my opinion Star Trek is Better and Star Trek has an actual possibility of being our future and plus in the documentary that Gene Roddenberry's son made he interviewed George Lucas and George even said that without Star Trek there would be no Star Wars plus Trek has the Q and the Borg
In my opinion Star Trek had a greater social and cultural impact. If we look at it entertainment wise then all I can say is that both franchises fed of of each other for success. Yin and Yang? They are both excellent creations and should not be compared.
+Chris Cunningham The force is actually very relevant to use the weapon Because the blade is weightless, you need the force in order to wield it without cutting yourself in half
***** Light sabres can block all kinds of blaster and I am sure it can do the same for phasers and they can cut through pretty much any thing. Go Star Wars
Charles Gabriel Well, phasers can be set to wide beam, so they can cover an area instead of a single target. Also, phasers can cut through pretty much anything either or simply vaporize it. You also have to demonstrate how a light saber would actually work, in regards to physics. Since light only stops due an object in its path... how does a light saber blade work?
Chris Heyburn Star Trek has plasma weapons. Most phasers were classified as particle weapons and fire nadion particle beams, but some like the Ferengi hand phaser were classified as plasma weapons and fired forced plasma beams. Of course, Nadion particles are a fictional artifically generated particle from processing plasma. In the nadion particle beam phasers, plasma was passed to a phaser emitter resulting in a discharge of nadion particles.
I'd say having a number of iconic actors/actresses, and even real scientists on Star Trek is a call to which is preferable. :p Steven Hawking, Mae Jemison, The Rock, Iggy Pop, James Worthy, Seth MacFarlane, Bryan Singer, Kelsey Grammer, Ken Jenkins, Kirsten Dunst, Jason Alexander, Christopher Lloyd, Terri Hatcher, Ashley Judd, Sarah Silverman, Kurtwood Smith... to name a few.
Trek = Science fact based Stat Wars = Science fiction based Chalk = Something you can write with Cheese = Something you eat I respect both of the shows/films but Star Wars is the better everytime a new Star Wars film or game is made the world goes crazy for it. I'm not rubbishing Trek by any means the thought and scientific evidence is clever but the impact the 2 respective brands create are worlds apart! Star Wars simply leaves Trek in a galaxy far far away!
IMO, "it is a franchise that shows us what we, humans, can achieve and how we can overcome our differences and eventually find delight in them" is a better argument than "it's fun to watch because pew pew"
Actually, Luke is incorrect. When Star Trek first came out in the 1960s it was popular as any TV show could be. However, the studios didnt know how to measure their viewership correctly. Because of their inaccurate polling, it appeared as though the show was not popular among their target demographics and so planned to cancel after 2 years. When the public got wind of this, they flooded the studios with letters begging to bring the show back. And so they did for a third season. Again, because the studio execs still werent enamored with the show, they aired the 3rd season on a Friday night at 8 or 9pm. In the 1960s, thats when the majority of their target audience went out; they didnt stay at home and watch the tele. And so that effectively killed the show. Also, the studio execs didnt like Rodenberry and his liberal/progressive nuances so they were actually glad to be rid of it. A resurrection followed in the early 1970s when Star Trek the animated series came out. And eventually the movies followed in the 1980s. but the followup early 1970s would never have occurred if the show wasn't already popular, and same with the movies. Also, sci fi conventions weren't a new concept. They've been occurring before the 1970s, just in a much different form. But at these conventions you also had a lot of star trek fans. The first official star trek convention didnt come out until 1970s, I believe. So Richard, you are correct. LLAP.
I love them both, but I slightly prefer star trek. I'm sorry when people say it's boring, because it's not, star trek talks about a lot of serious issues and no one EVER focuses on the amazing relationship between the characters. I'm in love with TOS (even if I reeeally like TNG's crew as well) and to see the dynamics on the vessel, the love and the respect between Kirk, Spock, Mccoy, Scotty, Uhura and all the others, the way they treat the women and the foreigners and the other species always makes me hopeful for our future. I think that star wars with its everlasting fight between good and evil will never truly describe the shades of human nature and the variety of beings that could dwell in our galaxy alone! but it provides good entertainment anyway :) and I must admit that I like lightsabers more than phasers (although nothing can beat a tricorder 😂)
Star Wars : Baby Yoda Star Trek : I SURRENDER! Star wars is way better in my opinion We have way better factions more aliens Better vilians like Darth Vader Emperor Palpatine Better spaceships like Tie ,X Wing star destroyer
But they aren’t “realistic” and “helpful” to humanity tho, is it? There is nothing your franchise has that means value to humanity, WE MADE OPENING DOORS AND IPADS, the tools everyone uses today. STAR TREK IS SO MUCH SUPERIOR THEN YOUR PRETEND LAND.

Star wars fans have no nickname. While Star Trek fans are called Trekkies and they are way more hardcore with their sci-fi. If any offense was given, i meant no harm.
Bob they’re called Star Wars fans Inside the Star Wars fans, there are 3 groups: Prequel fans Sequel fans Originals fans Prequel and sequel fans usually argue though it’s common for people to be an original and other thing fan. Finding a fan that fits in all 3 groups is quite rare
Marcelo B dude jihad means struggle, it doest mean to fight , like a struggling scientist or A struggling Artist....just stop following a media baron like Rupert Murdock's Fox....And Sorry for everything...
Spongebob has much more scary bag guys than either. A HOOK! Imagine your walking around and a kind looking metal thing offers you food, who doesn't like food- you get it- YOU DIE!!!!! The Borg don't have nothing on that!
Has he never watched Star Wars, like ever? Talking about bad guys- Borg, Romulans, Klingons for Star Trek- Star Wars...Let's see... bad guys... huh.... bad guys... No... No everyones friends in those movies... no definitive "Bad Guys", Anakin, Palpatine, the Jedi Order, Battle Droids- they just have a friendly discussion over who should rule the Galaxy and Palpatine wins, with Anakins help, so all but Yoda and Obi-Wan (and maybe a few non movie Jedi's) agree to leave the Galaxy until Palpatines Empire and Luke Skywalker with the Rebellion have another Friendly discussion and Palpatine looses because of Anakin. Yeah... no bad guys in Star Wars... It's simply just Star Friends. WHAT DO YOU MEAN "Lazer Brain" THERE ARE NO EPIC BAD GUYS!!!??? Darth Vader! Emperor/Chancellor/Old Guy Palpatine/Darth Lord Sidious! General Grevious! JABBA THE HUTT! STORMTROOPERS! GRAND MOFF TARKIN!!!! SITH!!!! BOBBA FETT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This guy does not know Star Wars and has clearly only read a script to skim a few points here and there about Star Friends- I mean Star Wars. ...Video Fail... Let me add just a more if I may- you can't stop me by the way- JABBA...Jabba the Hutt is an Intergalactic Gangster that'll probably eat your prime directive for breakfast and have starfleet for lunch. He runs a significant portion of an entire Galaxy that would take Star Fleet decades/centuries to travel- since Voyager takes time to get from Point A to Point last episode. Jabba has everything but a Lazer Tommy Gun . Not nearly enough of him is seen in the Movies but you have to be pretty powerful for a Galactic Empire to leave you alone, and share the Galaxy with. The Only reason he was defeated was because he underestimated the strength of a slave girl. Bobba Fett- Cool bounty hunter- beloved by all despite appearing 3 times in 3 original movies. He's got a Jet Pack, Flamethrower, cool armor. Try to Phazer that armor, he'll cook you for Dinner since Jabba needs a third meal and he needs pay. General Grevious was pretty much a loser coward but he did some cool things like be a cyborg and be the first non force user in Star Wars movies to use a lightsaber. He put up a good fight/run away and attack enemy in his air time. Grevious commands a Galactic Army/Navy who are fighting for freedom (I wonder who Star Trek would support- Clones or Robots- There is a great lack of machine people in Star Trek- but Grevious he would lightsaber a Borgs cyborgness off as he runs away on his wheel mobile. DARTH VADER!!!!! He teaches his officers that choking on you aspirations is not a good idea, He'll kill a Captain of his if their just not operating well enough for him. He'll cut his own son's hand off- force choke his own pregnant wife- that's pretty bad guy don't you think? His lightsaber will knock that phazer blast back at that red shirt while he plot twists into being the Captains Cousin three times removed's father. And he's smart off to take the Passengers Alive incase they know something unlike Kylo Ren. He'll even throw the Galaxy at his Son's feet or for one he call's sister if he doesn't accept. HE IS SUCH A BAD GUY HE BECAME GOOD AGAIN JUST BECAUSE HE COULDN'T BE ANY BADDER OF A BAD GUY AFTER BAD GUYING AROUND FOR A BAD TIME!!!!! You could even make the case he was the bad guy in the prequels with enough evidence. And EMPEROR PALPATINE DARTH SIDIOUS OLD GUY who really doesn't want to be CHANCELLOR but will for the "good" of the Republic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't say enough about him! he's the Baddest Bad guy that ever badded a bad guy! Experience: Manipulated a child into eventually becoming a bad guy. Manipulated the emotions of Teen/Adult into becoming a bad guy. Logically pointed out the flaws of most of the Jedi Console. Was able to hide his ultra bad guy power from all of the ultra good guys until the ultra conflicted kid finds out about and then he still bad guys this good guy. Started a Galactic Civil War. Fought Against both, fought for both, destroyed both. Was able to manage a Galactic Empire pretty effectively for at least a decade while most great people have trouble even running an Empire or even a Kingdom for just half a decade. He was able to make ultra hero Luke fight his own father, and possibly consider joining the dark side out of grief for his could be killed sister. He was able to keep super bad guy Darth Vader on a leash until the very last seen of his very last movie at pretty close to the very last part and only couldn't keep him on said leash because of Paternal Bonds and turning his back to a potential threat- which he was also smart enough to prepare for by making Vader purposefully vulnerable to electricity incase he decided to betray him. This man is responsible for genocide, for labeling creatures no sentient, for an evil galactic empire, for the near extinction of the Jedi, For the almost downfall of the last Jedi, for so much. And somehow Borgs who choose to learn from everyone rather than EXTERMEEENATE!!! EXTERMEEENATE!!! rather than kill, somehow out bad guys these bad guys. I get it, Star Trek bad guys are bad guys. And all the Star Treks put together have a longer run time than all the Star Wars movies put together. But come on. At the very least don't discredit Darth Vader or Jabba the Hutt. At the very least mention one of their names, even in passing. Next time get an actual fan of Star Wars to discuss Star Wars- because he totally lost all credibility at that point, whatever else he might of said or done in this video or his life. He did not do it as genuine fan or even honest viewer of Star Wars. "And that's all I have to say about that." ~Forrest Gump Well then... in his defense... he could just be making a point of how there definitely is iconic bad guys... there is a chance of that... and if that is the case... well I went from Warp Drive to Hyperspace a little quick.... but... well... he should have made that a little more clear... before fans of both fly off the handle......................... I WIN!!!
I love the fact that these two guys are being nice and civil about this while everyone in the comments is just murdering each other to see if pajamas can beat a man with a dog

And nihlius to so as obi wan
General grievous has to be the ultimate bad guy
Darth Binks is the best
Better is subjective.
They appeal to different audiences. They also are vastly different in their own right. Star Trek is an optimistic view for humanity's future. Star Wars is a good vs. evil type thing.
Good vs Evil? Are u kidding me? It's WAY deeper than that dude.
@@theemperor1379 Star Trek is more science fiction whilst Star Wars is more like epic fantasy. For me they're different geners, not comparable.
Star Trek : Futuristic Sci-fi
Star Wars : Fantasy Sci-fi
I like em both but I prefer Star Wars more because cause of thee things
Darth Vader
Darth Revan
And
BABY YODAA!
One of our Scout Troopers punch Baby Yoda.
Star trek all the way
There is room for both in all our hearts!
Eric Melendez If the right behind the scenes people are in charge. Star Trek is now just for kids; and as for Star Wars, that remains to be seen what the final verdict will imply.
DrMacintosh, except me, Glory to the Klingon Empire!!!
Star Wars for the win!
Holy shit it's Luke from outside xtra
May the Force be with you!

+Sir Pikachu I have to represent the Star Wars community!

I’m glad this video exists, purely because it’s connected Luke Westaway and Data in my mind and now I’m convinced they’re the same person.
The question of the ages
Star Trek hands down! For those of you that say Star Trek has no action...have you watched Deep Space nine seasons 4-7? Space battles galore amongst 5 species.
Star Trek sucks... Star Wars is awesome, u are old, that's y u like Star Trek!
That's not true! Why would you say that Star Wars is old too!
+Owen Seleski Star Trek probably predates your birth by 30 years
*****
lol true
shut up
Star Trek is based on Science and Star Wars is based on Good & Evil (i.e. Religion). This is now the 21st century. Science trumps myths.
The thing is jedi are litterally child obducting space wizards.
Star Trek is not about phasers and photon torpedoes... grow up star wars fans
The Borg fail in comparison to Grand Admiral Thrawns strategic prowess!

All those Star Wars fans calling Star Trek boring when they’ve only seen like one episode of TOS, there are other Star Trek shows, you know.
I’ve seen almost all of the Star Wars movies and I personally prefer Star Trek, if I hadn’t seen Star Wars I wouldn’t judge it
Kim I’ve seen all the recent Star Wars movies and am currently working my way through DS9, but I still prefer Star Trek, by a few trillion lightyears!
Papyrus Playz yesss!
Ok so let me get this straight when they were talking about villians and Luke said none really come to mind for Star Wars that's a load of shit what about Darth Vader or Emperor Palpatine
star trek was on star talk on nat geo
BOTH!!!!! I love both of them they are both the best science fiction universes out there and I grew up with both of them because why not have one without the other!!!!!
Because one is better, helps you learn. (A.K.A. Star Trek)
Bob you Star Trek fans are so annoying, always acting like your better then Star Wars
Edit) why can’t you be equal for once
In my opinion Star Trek is Better and Star Trek has an actual possibility of being our future and plus in the documentary that Gene Roddenberry's son made he interviewed George Lucas and George even said that without Star Trek there would be no Star Wars plus Trek has the Q and the Borg
Kaleb Gee YEah, agreed...can you actually see in the future Lord Vader swingin a light saber at some kid yellin "Im yo Father boy!"
I HATE U BOTH
If you don't want to eat lunch in the mess hall on a ship, there is Quarks bar which beats the Mos Eisley cantina
By galaxies it does, Quarks bar is the best place for a good drink or some illegal business transactions.
In my opinion Star Trek had a greater social and cultural impact. If we look at it entertainment wise then all I can say is that both franchises fed of of each other for success. Yin and Yang? They are both excellent creations and should not be compared.
Whos here for Luke Westaway from OutsideXtra
+Chris Cunningham
The force is actually very relevant to use the weapon
Because the blade is weightless, you need the force in order to wield it without cutting yourself in half
Do not under estimate the power of the dark side
Sorry, just did. I think you should have a talk with Q he’ll “snap you in shape.” Lol! 😂
To me, Star Wars will always be better than Star Trek. I don't care what Dinsey does to Star Wars, it is the best. You can't change my mind.
Always?. not always
Keep doing this Captain.
Phasers can vaporize things, including people. I'd hardly call that weak.
A lightsaber is plasma
Chris Heyburn Star Trek has plasma weapons.
Most phasers were classified as particle weapons and fire nadion particle beams, but some like the Ferengi hand phaser were classified as plasma weapons and fired forced plasma beams.
Of course, Nadion particles are a fictional artifically generated particle from processing plasma. In the nadion particle beam phasers, plasma was passed to a phaser emitter resulting in a discharge of nadion particles.
That's cool and all but
How was that relevant
You were saying lightsabers were light and I said they're plasma
No mention of the Force! that is by far the coolest aspect of the Star Wars universe.
Alvin Moore maybe so but Q can make it all disappear
@@camdondavis470 Q?
How could a letter do that?
Star Wars is better because it's Super Epic.
Marcos Acosta, I respectfully disagree.
@@camdondavis470 I respectfully disagree.
I'd say having a number of iconic actors/actresses, and even real scientists on Star Trek is a call to which is preferable. :p
Steven Hawking, Mae Jemison, The Rock, Iggy Pop, James Worthy, Seth MacFarlane, Bryan Singer, Kelsey Grammer, Ken Jenkins, Kirsten Dunst, Jason Alexander, Christopher Lloyd, Terri Hatcher, Ashley Judd, Sarah Silverman, Kurtwood Smith... to name a few.
You can simply create the Star Wars universe on the Holodeck. Star Trek FTW! (I love them both though).
If you like em both your ok
Trek = Science fact based
Stat Wars = Science fiction based
Chalk = Something you can write with
Cheese = Something you eat
I respect both of the shows/films but Star Wars is the better everytime a new Star Wars film or game is made the world goes crazy for it.
I'm not rubbishing Trek by any means the thought and scientific evidence is clever but the impact the 2 respective brands create are worlds apart!
Star Wars simply leaves Trek in a galaxy far far away!
“Star Wars simply leaves Trek in a galaxy far far away!” HUGE disagreement there.
They're both great. I like Star Wars more, but I like Star Trek a lot.
Why can’t people like both! I like both, but I prefer Star Wars!
“Prefer”, hm..... sounds like BETRAYAL to me.
Papyrus Playz how? Grew up on both, still like both, just like Star Wars more
Chase McAndrew don’t bother talking to him, I saw him talking crap about someone on a comment ago cause the other thought Star Wars was good
Star Wars is better but I do enjoy Star Trek
Good
IMO, "it is a franchise that shows us what we, humans, can achieve and how we can overcome our differences and eventually find delight in them" is a better argument than "it's fun to watch because pew pew"
LLAP.
So much word shut up star wars better nothing u can do
Star Wars is the geek man child franchise. Star Trek is the guilty pleasure of normal people.
Its kinda the other way around.
star trek is for people who think tv shows can change the world and create a perfect utopia.
Star Trek fans also like Star Wars for most part
Im pretty sure Star Wars 7 will break movie record in most money in opening week.
Anyways Star Wars is far better than Star Trek in my opinion.

Better spaceships like Tie ,X Wing star destroyer
Yup,i agree! And i really like their droids... bb8,r2-d2 and C-3PO,they are so helpful😅😂

Star Trek is more sophisticated and is not meant for infants. SW is basic and is meant for anybody.
@Dread StarZ Star trek is about humanity who destroy the eart foe their business
Apple!, Wait, what was the question again?
Battlestar Galatica (the re-imagined 2004 series).
He really could come up with DARTH VADER😱 Like come on man wtf? Like majority of the population knows who Darth Vader is. But millions upon millions have not a clue of any villain bestowed within star trek
I can name a few.
Star wars fans have no nickname. While Star Trek fans are called Trekkies and they are way more hardcore with their sci-fi. If any offense was given, i meant no harm.
Bob they’re called Star Wars fans
Inside the Star Wars fans, there are 3 groups:
Prequel fans
Sequel fans
Originals fans
Prequel and sequel fans usually argue though it’s common for people to be an original and other thing fan. Finding a fan that fits in all 3 groups is quite rare
What do guys think. Star Wars or star trek. Me. Star Wars
It's a tie. I like both equally

STAR WARS!!!!!!

I LOVE STAR WARS AND STAR TREK
It's like choosing between two beautiful women. I take them both.
Star Wars. Legendary.
"And that's all I have to say about that." ~Forrest Gump
Well then... in his defense... he could just be making a point of how there definitely is iconic bad guys... there is a chance of that... and if that is the case... well I went from Warp Drive to Hyperspace a little quick.... but... well... he should have made that a little more clear... before fans of both fly off the handle......................... I WIN!!!
Definitely Star Wars!!!
