As an ex cashier , I can say there is no secret,. It's all about randomness and timing on when you buy a ticket.
in a way you are right but people who know how to play know which games to play. California has their lottery website shows which games already has big wins. If that game has big wins then dont play it. Play scratchers that have less wins. You do that then your odds are much better at winning. Most have only 5 jackpot wins. so if a game has 4 out of 5 wins then dont play it.

In my country New Zealand, the lottery stores have to remove that game once all the top prizes have been won. You can also ask the shop owner for a print out showing how many top prizes are left in the game/ticket you're buying.

Once the lottery knows all the top prizes in a game have been claimed, how are they not forced to pull the game from store shelves? Leaving them up is false advertising. A ticket claiming a top prize that they know is not possible should be illegal..

Well, here's what you could do: Since you won a total of $3,100 and you only spent $110...your net profit was $2,990. So, since you have that much in easy profit, why not spend $490 of it on the lottery or at a casino...or a combination of the 2. That way, even if you lose the entire $490, your total net profit would still be $2,500. I mean, it's still a good profit for money that came to you so quick and easily. Plus, you'd be giving yourself the chance to make even more profits because you might just win something out of that $490 spend.

I know a convenient store worker that made tons of money off digging tickets out of the trash. He said alot of people don't fully understand the directions and end up throwing away winners.
I also know a gas station attendant that did same thing. The store had like a round table where you could fill out your cards to print your numbers chosen for Powerball and others. Also where you could scratchoff your tickets with a round opening in the center to throw away losing tickets. He would take home a couple garbage bags full of scratched losing tickets. But going through thousands of tivkets, he would find quite a few of winning tickets. Usually just for dollar or two, but it all added up to be quite alot of money. It's how he played his payments on a new motorcycle and then some
Actually in California we have 2nd chance for scratchers with up to $100,000 grand prize, so sometimes if I see a bunch of tickets in trash ill grab them and scan them for second chance, Ive been doing this for a year and I’ve found 3 winning tickets one $10 winner and two $5 winners. He was probably doing the second chance lottery.. I do it . There's only certain tickets that have the entry numbers on Them. Here in Detroit, you can use the Wild Time, Cash word, and Bingo tickets for the 2nd chance lottery

I used to have to park far from my job at one point. To get to my car faster, I would cut through the parking lot of a liquor store. I started collecting scratched off tickets, and entering them into the CA lottery second chance bonus round. I found 3 $10 tickets. One was entered. The other two kept popping back, saying they may actually be winners. On closer examination, there were no matching numbers, however there were bonus games in the top corner that blended in too well with the rest of the game. The first one was a quick $50 bonus. The second was was an automatic 10X bonus for $10. I won $150, and didn't even buy any tickets!

I remember working at a convenience store and we had new lotto machines put in that take cash or card and there would be lines all day. So many people left tickets with money on them, they didn't know how to play them or scan them on the machine and check them. One lady bought ten 10 dollar scratchers and left them on top of the atm and came back an hour later to see if anyone turned them in, that would be a no. And the best was when someone would come up with a losing ticket and try to convince me it was a winner.

Actually I work at thortans and there was a guy that came in our store he bought a $20 monopoly ticket and walked out the store a million dollars richer. It was a sight to see i was there I couldn't believe it. The guy came back and threw my co worker who sold him the ticket some cash. I haven't seen him since. So there are winners out there. Don't be so fooled. It can happen. I myself have sold lots of winners big and small and have gotten nice surprises for it to.

Im sure this is what they were considering. Last year 4 store clerks were tried and convicted for felony fraud regarding the ohio lottery. All for lying to a lottery customer during the ticket verification process. They were told the ticket was a loser by the clerks who pocketed over $24,000 total claiming the ticket themselves or recruiting someone to do so. BTW this is just ohio...
Sometimes the scanners don’t work either. I had a $100 winner and the scanner said no winner. My rule is scan first then watch the cashier carefully run your ticket.
These people won't say how much money they've pissed away trying to win.
Odds on many are 1:3.75 or so. Some are stupid 1:9. I normally win about that much. I play 30.00 a week or so. Just for fun.
I always check it out online before I buy a ticket to make sure the big prizes have not been won and I still don't win!
Maybe cause every store in you're state sells them 😆. The top prize winner can be in a big city. Or a small town with 1 store. It's luck of the draw
Do like Connecticut does: When the last top prize is sold for that particular game, take it out of circulation. Not all states do this for some reason.
This is 100% true also in California . We always check odds before buying tickets and also usually the whole books really makes sense.
The Sad part about this is, the $1-$2-$3 and $5 Dollar Scratch off tickets always come out losers for me.

The odds of winning a big prize are so high that you shouldn't even spend any money on that bet. The states never lose when it comes to the lottery, the odds are worse than vegas and the house always wins.
I don't regularly play, but I remember a few months back I had 3 of the $5 crossword tickets. 2 of the 3 were winners when I checked them. I thought I won a free ticket and $20. When the clerk scanned them (including the losing ticket) he said I won $120. Lesson learn: scan losing tickets too.

Pay attention to the 3 numbers in the low right corner as well. I play the lotto frequently and I will state those numbers have alot to do with winning numbers. Be careful, some places will disable the scanning machines so you have to give them the ticket. Always scan your ticket before handing it to them.

You can win big but it’s all about timing and luck. I wouldn’t recommend playing the lottery everyday. I get one scratch off every time that i get paid. The most money that I’ve won was $500.00 on a 10 scratch off.

I've been playing $10 and $50 scratch offs here and there just the last 3 months, I've spend 2500 so after several $100 winners, one $500 winner, and one $1000 winner(odds of 1 in 1000) it's possible that I'm breaking even but even with good luck the last two weeks the most I'll be winning is a couple hundred if I'm not losing money compared to my overall purchases. No more scratch offs for me except I'll buy one ticket every few months just in case lady luck is looking for me

NY lottery puts out a list of all the tickets and how many top prizes and 2nd prize winners are left for each ticket every Monday... And if a ticket has no more top prizes left they AUTOMATICALLY go around and take those tickets away from lottery retailers so they aren't selling scratch ticket games that have no top prizes left even if there are still 2nd top prize winners remaining. Plus in their list of tickets online they highlight the scratch games that no longer have top prizes left in red

I saw a undercover news special where people would have their lottery tickets and scratch offs checked for winnings. Store owners where telling customers they didn't win and would cash in the tickets themselves.

In Kansas seems like all the big winners are in Rural areas and towns I've never heard of, less so in bigger cities. I wonder how they decide where the big winner bundles get shipped out too?

I checked odds of winning,chose best ticket ,bought last 3 tickets in a roll that was left,$5 tickets & won $30, so I got my money back plus $15 more
The problem is they are ignoring that they don't know how many tickets are left out of the total amount. If the game has only 2 out of 10 prizes left but they sold 90 out of 100 tickets you 2x the odds when the game first came out. Or if they have 7 out of 10 prizes left and sold 20 out of the100 tickets you actually have a worst chance than when the game first came out. This is why most states don't let you know the sale data on tickets or you could actually find their true odds and it would bring in advantage players.
Way too many times, have i seen cashiers hand you a ticket from a different area from under the counter and not torn from the roll shown. Ticket boxes are marked upon winnings per boxes.
NEVER hand over your ticket to a clerk unless you have scanned it YOURSELF. If it is a winner, sign it
