Good morning from the US! I now have two aqua scape tanks since I stumbled upon your videos in May when researching tank lights! Thank goodness my old style bulb burned out… yes it was a bulb and not LED! Happy to say I’m caught up with technology.
Was there yesterday and got some ember tetras and some pigmy corys for my cockatoo apistogramma pair, Matts a lovely person in videos and outside of videos
I would suggest against using seiryu stone, they aren’t inert usually. They’ll more than likely make the water harder, exhaust the akadama ph buffer capacity and lead to issues with most caridina shrimp.
Akadama soil ..what a coincidence just used it a month ago and felt the texture so natural compared to amazonia and cost is also reasonable..got to give a rinse though before laying it in water
All I'm saying is I had given up fish keeping until I started watching this channel now I have 4 tanks running and a fifth just waiting for me to set up

After I got sick with covid in 2020 and lost 2 colonies, I caved and switched to a more environmentally friendly version of RO water (sand, activated charcoal, and 2 membranes do the work with zero waste/effluent water). I learned setting up with RO and appropriate mineral re-supplementation, plus appropriate hardscape and plants (lava rock and wood for caridina, wider variety of rocks for neo & Palaemonetes paludosus) and waiting 6 to 8 weeks to establish a healthy supply of microflora and microfauna food sources (algae really is my friend... in balance) and I only have to top off with properly re-mineralized water. Made my life so much easier, and gave me more time to enjoy my tanks.😁 Only my shrimp get such selectively treated water😂
Hey MD long time fan Cotton balls make an easy glue substrate aswell! Also cyanoacrylate glue will set instantly with water so just put water in that spray bottle and it will do the same thing
This is so gorgeous MD. After watching this and your previous shrimp video from 8 months ago, I was specifically on the lookout for buce at the Underwater Pet Expo we had here in Melbourne over the weekend as I have not seen it locally. And guess what? An interstate vendor had brought some with him and we gushed about your work and I purchased a beautiful piece of driftwood scattered with buce. All this to say, thankyou for being a constant source of entertainment and inspiration. You are awesome!!
I have a 82L aquarium (about 4yo) with some neon tetras and two gouramis. Only plants are cryptocoryne and anubias (but in significant quantity). As a substrate I used Amazonia soil, and as a hardscape I used some redwood branches and a big piece of lava that I bring from Iceland. It's very low tech, and low maintaince tank - I'm doing water changes maybe once a year. Three years ago I added 15 red cherry shrimps - they absolutely thriving, the population is absurdly big. Once a month I give away about 200 pieces to anyone who wants them, because there are really too much for my tank. I never tested the water in here and I'm using regular tap water. I don't know how it works, but after 4 years the plants are beautiful, the fish are happy, shrimps are doing great even if I put almost no effort into maintaining this tank. I'm just lucky I guess ;)
If you have the time/resources, maybe look into making timelapses of, streaming, and/or just making more chill videos of your aquariums. Its neat to see how they are made but i think people also want to see them up and running!
i have recently been able to breed black Christal shrimp it was hard but i found that minimal water changes and feeding little bits of cucumber really get them going (really small pieces)
All my shrimp (caridina, neocaridina, and Palaemonetes paludosus) and snails appreciate blanched vegetables every other day. Guppysnail taught me that healthy beneficial bacteria colonies prevent any ammonia buildup from the veggies, so I throw veggies on a bamboo skewer and change them out every 48 hours. Baby brine and other microfauna & microflora guarantee successful breeding as long as I keep the water healthy, healthy plants, and right mineral balance.
I got a bunch of buce for a decent price a month ago and they just hanging around in one of my tanks. also have a 11l spare tank.. I know exactly what i will do next week :D
Glad to see the akadama soil is getting some airtime! Been looking at this as substrate for my first planted tank. Would be great to see an experiment from you using akadama fully in an aquascape in both low tech and high tech tanks.
unsure where you got 200-250 tds because most, if not all bee/tiger caridina thrive at around 120-160.. also, that stone changes the hardness of the water.. so bare that in mind.
Some folks asking if a Betta would work on this tank gonna say likely no. If the Betta was there for a while then sure, shrimp can sneak in and hide and the Betta isn't expecting new additions to an existing home. But adding both around the same time is not ideal for the shrimp since the Betta will likely try snacking on em and the shrimp will already be agitated for any number of shrimpy reasons.
That stone will raise KH which will not be good for the shrimp, going to be an expensive mistake using that😢. Keep on eye on GH and KH with regular testing or better still RO water.
I’m looking for inspiration/options for a betta tank. My Betta isn’t the bully, he’s the one that’s bullied. Thinking about buying him a separate tank. This video popped up just in time.
I know some people use unscented cat litter as their bonsai soil mix as some of them are akadama. Its supposed to be a cheap way to source akadama as bags labled as bonsai soil can be extortionate. Personally I tried to find some locally but most didn't list the ingredients and any that did listed other ingredients like wood fibres, so I don't think that would work for aquarium soil.
Great video. And stunning aquascape as always MD. I love the multi-colored shrimp. They're my favorite. And now I know what it takes to have a successful tank of them. My PH is naturally low. 6.8-6.4. I'm usually trying to bring it up with cuddle bones. LOL. This would be the exact opposite for me. Jahah-!!n!!!n+ Thanks again for a wonderful video.
Hey MD I saw your Walstad aquarium can you keep us updated on how that tank does. I am thinking of doing one myself, so I would like to see any issues you might have had a month from now or so. Btw I love your videos I binge watched just about all of them from years ago. I love the scapes, plant choices, etc
My dirt bottomed tank was the roughest from 13 months to 18 months. I developed a potassium deficiency by not including enough short lived snails and leaving shells in the water. Once the problem was identified and I replaced plants that died due to the deficiency, the tank blossomed. I only top off now, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates stay at 0 ppm, shrimp, plants and fish are reproducing beautifully and pH stays a constant 6.6 pH (no rocks in tank outside of lava rock). Set up a second Walstad type dirt bottomed tank with more rock. It's almost 6 months old. If it's still maintaining a pH of 7.5 next spring, it will get my baby Blue Dreams transferred over.
Actually aquasoils comes from Akadama which is a bonsai soil. The only difference is that aquasoils are loaded with nutrients to promote aquatic plant growth. ADA use to offer a range of aquasoils with reddish/brownish color (the Malaya and the Africana) but is was discontinued and only the Amazonia remains.
"AQUA ESSENTIAL" IS SPECTACULAR ACCORDING TO TOSHI,JARETH&JOSHUA. ALSO, THE SOLUTION SMELLS SO FANTASTIC,I ACTUALLY THOUGHT TO MYSELF"IF YOU DIDNT KNOW WHAT IT WAS,YOU MIGHT GRAB A CUP OF ICE & HAVE A SIP"

Awesome, nice watch during lunch! Thanks for the great vids! Greetings from the Netherlands 🎉🎉
A very beautiful fish with a red muzzle at 1-58, as I understand it, this female guppy has never seen such a beautiful color.
I saw some Pinocchio shrimp in my local store in Plymouth yesterday which were really unusual looking
Keep up the good work. I've learned so much about my tank thanks to these videos.
If you have the time/resources, maybe look into making timelapses of, streaming, and/or just making more chill videos of your aquariums. Its neat to see how they are made but i think people also want to see them up and running!
Literally got my shrimps I have now because of MD! Being a beginner in this and watching your videos is just very motivating to me :D
i have recently been able to breed black Christal shrimp it was hard but i found that minimal water changes and feeding little bits of cucumber really get them going (really small pieces)
I love these aquascape videos, wish I had the space for more tanks 😢
I got a bunch of buce for a decent price a month ago and they just hanging around in one of my tanks. also have a 11l spare tank.. I know exactly what i will do next week :D
Glad to see the akadama soil is getting some airtime! Been looking at this as substrate for my first planted tank. Would be great to see an experiment from you using akadama fully in an aquascape in both low tech and high tech tanks.
Those guppies are gorgeous
I love how you are showing the testing!
Absolutely beautiful tank! This is such a great tank to sit at a desk and watch for hours ❤❤ wonderful job!
fantastic setup n beautiful scape
Nice with a different layout.
Thank GOD for you telling me about "aqua essential"tap water conditioner.
Loved this video💯🙌🏼🌱👊🏻 the Bruce, the shrimp and specially the bonsai substrate you used 👏🏼👍🏻
Fingers crossed they do well.
unsure where you got 200-250 tds because most, if not all bee/tiger caridina thrive at around 120-160.. also, that stone changes the hardness of the water.. so bare that in mind.
I'm so jealous that you can get all that bucephalandra! I can't get my hands on any of it in my neck of the woods at the moment 😐. Beautiful scape.
Love this and hope it continues to go great! Love how you show us the shrimp and fish up close.
Brilliant! Looking forward to the update.
Beautiful setup. Simple, yet, interesting.
Awesome tank MD. For crystal red shrimp ive had the best luck with tds around 100-200. but im guessing 250 will be fine. awesome video.
Yet another fantastic setup. I love the shrimp tanks. Great job MD.
love ur accent bro
That stone will raise KH which will not be good for the shrimp, going to be an expensive mistake using that😢. Keep on eye on GH and KH with regular testing or better still RO water.
I love pure Bruce tanks
"Aqua essential "is incredible.
I look forward to every one of your videos.
Love nano Shrimp tanks. I want to setup another one now. lol thanks MD
You love a gadget! That little tap is pro, I just tie a knot in the tube like some kind of caveman.
Love! I'm obsessed!
The tank is brilliant!
the last bit with the duckweed made me laugh harder than it shouldve. ah i feel your pain XD

one of my favorites so far!
Epic tank
Eyh ! I see that you are making new tanks again and again, every week or so... But how long do you keep a tank before changing it ?
Great success! 👍👍
Just wi watch the plants grow in
Great Video
Tanks always look good
Little Manny koshbin shout-out there? Lol
Wicked love it Mate
This looks so good!
ALSO, THE SOLUTION SMELLS SO FANTASTIC,I ACTUALLY THOUGHT TO MYSELF"IF YOU DIDNT KNOW WHAT IT WAS,YOU MIGHT GRAB A CUP OF ICE & HAVE A SIP"
would love to see a vampire crab set up
Is Timmy still alive, we are getting very worried for him now with no updates.
Of course he is 🤣
The water couldn’t be any more clearer, It’s like gin! Had me laughing so hard😂
