  • We love all 469 Miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway. But in this video, I’m going to share 10 reasons to visit the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. The Blue Ridge Parkway is called “America’s Favorite Drive” for a reason. 15 million people visit the Parkway ever year. The parkway in North Carolina is amazing, but the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia is amazing too!

I live in VA, and I love the BRP and the Skyline DR. It's so beautiful. I do favor NC because the elevations are a little higher. But I'd take either way any day that I can. Just dont get to do it as often as I would like. Thanks for the video.

I live in Roanoke, Va, and I'm planning on biking parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway soon.

Some amazing mountains. Not much time left this year. I’d get up there quick. Once the weather starts they start closing it down, especially in Virginia. North Carolina isn’t as bad except around Boone. But you’ll love it!

Ever since the early 70's, my grandfather would get drunk and have to take us on a drive here. Lol. On one occasion he scared the crap out of me while he was tipping back a bottle of wild turkey, 101 proof. But we made it somehow anyway. I was about 4 or 5 at the time. My grandmother and older cousin thought I was being ridiculous. LOL. Oh, the good 'ol days. 😂

That would be scary on the Blue Ridge, but you survived to tell the story! Thanks for watching!

Beautiful from sky to valley. The scenery and views are phenomenal. (How do you like my name change. Google/UA-cam changed it from Bren g to breng5767. I noticed in comments of other videos I have watched that there are now a lot of numbers flying around. lol.) Anyhow, continue to show us these wonderful videos. Take care and God Bless.

Hi Bill, thank you for sharing all the knowledge about the BRP, i will be driving the entire road from north to south this year, and i can't wait, my question : is the end of april/begin of may a good period to do it (between in 20th of april and the 10th of may) ? That's when we are going, we live in Montreal and over here at that time spring isn't arrive, i would like to drive the BRP in full spring season, is this period great for it ? and do you recommand more beginning of may or end of april, if there is any difference ? (we will also drive the Skyline before the BRP) Thanks a lot in advance for your respond 🙂🙂🙏🙏

Sounds like a wonderful time of year for the Blue Ridge Parkway! I'm grateful you're requesting recommendations! I would begin at the Norther Terminus of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia towards in the end of April. It's not uncommon for a few sections of the BRPW to receive a little snow during that time of year. The beginning of May is probably a a better time. Make sure you have this site saved on your phone: www.blueridgeparkway.org/parkway-map/. It's a decent website/app.
But remember, cell service is sketchy at best on the Parkway.
But let's back up. If you're planning Skyline Drive as well, without a doubt, plan on May. Remember, there's a fee for Skyline Drive. From start to finish Skyline and all 469 miles of the BRPW will take you anywhere between 5 and 7 days (and longer, it really depends on how often you want to appreciate the views). The website I provided will help you with lodging off the parkway.
Skyline Drive has lodging in Shenandoah National Park. But there are only two lodges that are actually on the Blue Ridge Parkway. One is in Virginia at Peaks of Otter, and the other is outside Asheville, NC. Of the two, I recommend Pisgah Inn in North Carolina. You'll want to make reservations at least a week out. They close for the winter but open back up right when you'll be heading that way. It's worth it. Fantastic view, friendly staff, and a very popular "old school" kind of vibe.
While this may sound like a shameless plug, I also highly recommend our Blue Ridge Parkway Playlist, and our Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park playlist. Sure, a few of the videos are cringe. But there's not a single channel on UA-cam that provides as much information as we do. Many of our subscribers and viewers have planned their Shenandoah National Park/Skyline and Blue Ridge Parkway getaways using our playlists. I'm told they're quite helpful. (Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that we're the best channel covering the Parkway, I'm just saying we've made over 100 videos on BRPW and about the same on Skyline Drive. If you love planning, you'll appreciate the videos.
You shouldn't have a hard time with lodging just off the parkway. I'm not a fan of the lodges on Skyline, but they have a lot of fans. Crowds will vary depending on the day of the week. That time of year isn't peak season. Honestly, things are just getting started up there in April, unless you're local, or like us! But even in March, if a section is open on the weekend and its warm, it can get crowded quickly.
Once in NC, we find that Boone is a great place to stay. It's just off the Parkway, near Grandfather Mountain. Let me know if you have any other questions, and tell me how it goes. Also, feel free to contact us through here or our FB page if you have questions during your trip. Thanks for asking!

I am so sorry for my late response, i didn't saw you had replied to my question 😅
Thank you so much Bill for all the information 🙏 It's really appreciated and helpful for planning my trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The trip is booked and we will drive from Cherokee to Front Royal, so South to North, early May (5 to 11th may 2024). Hope that's a great time to do the road trip and the weither will be with us 🙏 ! We also will visit the Smokeys Mountains NP and the Shenandoah NP (both 2 nights/1 full day) and 3 days of driving on the blue rigde/Skyline in between. I can't wait !
Thanks a lot for your help and kindness. Gonna watch all your video on your chanel.
      Best regards

Planing to do the Parkway this summer from Shenandoah to Southern end. Any tips for a 6 day itinerary?

    • @BillMarion

I'd need to write a book! 🤣 But seriously, watch our BRPW playlist. I know that probably sounds like a shameless plug to watch our videos, but there's a lot of information that will help you plan. There are only two lodges on the Parkway. One is in Virginia and the other is in NC. Make reservations and stay at both. They are quite charming, and each offer a unique experience. If you enjoy camping, there are campgrounds at high elevations in both Virginia and NC. You have 6 days, so take your time. Don't stay in your vehicle for more than 30 minutes. Get out and walk/hike. As much as I love the Parkway itself, and its landscape architecture, there is so much more to see. Drive the parkway at night, but drive real slow and watch for deer and bear. Driving up there at night is a interesting experience. Get a map! And plan day by day. Mt Mitchell is a must. Goodness, there is so much more, but I've already written quite a bit. So many people watch our playlist and get the information they're needing. Some of the videos are goofy, but just scroll through them. We're hoping to get up there this summer as well. Enjoy! Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!
