Congrats on the marriage! The happiest musical release is Dead Before Death by Emit.
I remember when my grandma would sing that to me, so soothing and happy...
#1 - Picnic of Love
sweet pfp
/thread
RIP Seth Putnam
Picnics r gay 😎🤘🏻
ZOO!! by Necry Talkie or any album by Necry Talkie
The Mollusk by Ween is one of the happiest albums I know
Mollusk is a great answer
WOOCEAN MAN
Ween is just a great band
I only know that band from Pure Guava, thanks
Nah I feel like this is too melancholic of a record
Equilibrium - Erdentempel
Cascada - Everytime We Touch.
Yes - Fragile
Glad to have you back Wyatt! Congrats on getting married.
Carly Rae Jepsen's Emotion it's just musical serotonin. Also Enema Of The State by blink-182 (except Adam's Song)
Travelling Without Moving - Jamiroquai. Full of upbeat joyful danceable 90s bangers. It's got so much variety from songs like Alright which are more lowkey to songs with pure energy like the title track and even heavy use of didgeridoo in the relaxing instrumental cuts of Didjerama and Didjital Vibrations
I hope "The Silliest Albums I Know" is next
I would say the happiest album is Intro Bonito by Kero Kero Bonito, great record
After thinking about it - I think the happiest music comes from happiness that is 'earned' after hardship.
Greatest example of this is Beethoven's 5th Symphony - the last movement is among the happiest music I've ever heard - but it's only that happy when listened to in the context of the whole thing. The music before it is full of drama, anger, pain. So that glorious radiant sunshine after all of that shines all the brighter due to the context of what came before.
Congrats on your marriage big man.
Happiest music you'll ever find is almost guaranteed to be in the Japan.
Masayoshi Takanaka is the master of it.
Just pure tropical dance vibes on basically every album.
AN INSATIABLE HIGH is my personal favourite but legitimately his first 10 albums are straight bangers front to back.
Korpiklaani radiates happiness! A lot of Folk-Metal does, probably more than other subgenres.
Power Metal like DragonForce, Freedom Call, Stratovarius, Heavenly, Power Quest.
In terms of Classical - I think of Mozart when it comes to happiness, a particular example might the overture to "The Marriage of Figaro".
One that always comes to mind is Felix Mendelssohn - String Quartet No. 3 in D major too - very exuberant.
Jupiter the bringer of jollity (The Planets) - Holst.
Wedding Day at Troldhaugen - Grieg.
I would also say a lot of Chopin's Mazurkas qualify too - partly due to their dance rhythm but also due to their frequent use of the 'Lydian' mode which is the same as 'Major key' but with a raised fourth - giving it a lift beyond even 'Major'.
Honourable mention to Steve Vai's instrumental - 'Lucky Charms' - sounds like a bunch of happy leprechauns dancing!
Here are some albums I find incredibly happy or positive:
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
Loverboy - Get Lucky
Bryan Adams - Reckless
Duran Duran - Rio
Styx - The Grand Illusion
REO Speedwagon - You Can Tune A Piano, But You Can’t Tuna Fish
Poison- Open Up and Say…Ahh!
Def Leppard - Pyromania
Edit: Forgot you included Duran Duran, but I completely agree, it’s an incredibly happy sounding album that I adore.
Pet sounds is pretty cynical
candy claws - two airships / exploder falls
an entirely instrumental shoegaze/indietronica album. despite being noisy to an absurd degree, it is extremely warm and uplifting to me. the guitar melodies are very bright and catchy, there’s a lotta very psychedelic synth work, and there’s one section of the album that sounds like a song you’d hear in a dance club circa 2008 got put in a deep frier. it’s such a strange fusion of sounds, yet the way it’s played gives me so much hope and motivation, and i absolutely adore it for that reason
Jethro Tull - Songs From The Wood. This album to me is always incredibly uplifting and joyful, makes me want to go outside and take a walk through some fields and forests immediately. Great video, and congrats on the marriage!
"Bonito Generation" is pure happiness. And "Believe in me, who believes in you" by Aries is the most happy [pop] rap album by far.
Both amazing picks
Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine: This album has an absolute dark undertone on the second half of the record. I cant deny that but the music itself just hits me in a way that just makes me smile in a way. the hooks, the riffs, the scale of the production.
Baroness - Purple: Johns voice being as powerful as it is just puts so much more memorability on the vocal hooks of the album, the songs are structured so well, its such an easy album to get every song stuck in your head.
Yes - Going For The One: any yes album could go here but this one just has such a whimsical tone and mood to it that always gets me smiling.
Alcest - Shelter: i know this album gets hate, but the goal Neige sat at for is absolutely aparent, Pillowey post rock/shoegaze that evokes a sense of comfort. it feels like sitting on a beach at sunset.
Solstafir - Svartir Sandar: its the album thats feels the most just, pure rock n roll to where the songs can go on for so long but feel like their four minutes long. Otta as a whole is the better album but Svartir just gives off nothing but evergy as a good time.
Literally anything from the Electric Light Orchestra, from the debut to Time. such an incredible streak of catchy beautiful happy albums
Falkenbach makes me happy....
...I remember Lykathea Aflame from like 20 years ago, damn are they still around?
Yes Falkenbach makes me happy too, and not really Likathea Aflame only released one album
The happiest album that I know. Is Follow The Reaper by Children Of Bodom
She's so Unusual by Cyndi Lauper
Stardust - Willie Nelson
My most favorite happy album I know
Screaming for Vengeance by Judas Priest
Ealry 80's Judas Priest never fails to uplift me
Avalanches - "Since I Met You"
So good!!
One of the best albums ever made.
#1: Mats/Morgan Band - On Air with Guests
#2: The Presidents of the United States of America - self-titled album
#3: Earth, Wind & Fire - Plugged In and Live
Discovery and Random Access Memories by Daft Punk never fail to fill me with this dancey feeling that compels me to smile
Anathema- We’re Here Because We’re Here or Weather Systems
The happiest album I like is Colour By Numbers by Culture Club. Will also include Fore by Huey Lewis and The News, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics.
Congratulations to you both ❤️
Congrats on the wedding Wyatt and as always a great video 🙂
As a metal head who loves happy pop music I appreciate this video, Congrats on the wedding man!
Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs by Marty Robbins. Marty's lyrics when telling stories set in the wild west are incredible because he can condense a whole novel worth of information into just a few verses. Fallout players all know and love Big Iron but there's other incredible songs on the album that always put a smile on my face like A Hundred And Sixty Acres or El Paso. Even when telling stories about death and outlaws you can't help but feel happy for how every lyric can be visualised so clearly as he sings them
Strawberry Switchblade is the the happiest sounding album but the saddest one at the same time
Can't say I was expecting this to be the next focus for your "[adjective] Albums I/You Know" series, but it definitely makes sense considering what else has been going on in your life. Congrats to you and Claire!
Wracking my brain here since happy music isn't something that I've really listened to much of, however I think I have a couple things to throw in the ring. My focus here is more on music that *sounds* happy/bright/etc and not so much on music with explicitly happy lyrical themes (as a lot of those tend to go in one ear and out the other for me).
I Built The Sky's album The Zenith Rise immediately came to mind - If instrumental prog metal can sound happy, then this is probably one of the most uplifting that I can recall. Also mentioning The Quiet Place Away, similar virtuosic playing with an acoustic guitar and more emphasis on orchestral support (violins, upright basses, chimes, etc). Incredible production on both of them. Worth a listen.
Obsequiae's Aria of Vernal Tombs and The Palms of Sorrowed Kings are also fairly upbeat sounding. Medieval-themed black medal with a heavy focus on beautiful melodies, relatively clear and bright production, and some great supporting work by period instruments (most notably a hurdy-gurdy). They never fail to get the serotonin flowing any time I put them on.
technicolor by covet is another very upbeat album. More predominantly instrumental music, this time on the math rock side of things. technicolor has a few tracks with vocals, which is a bit of a departure from the band's earlier work. They really enhance the bright and euphoric soundscape of the band, and are used sparingly enough that they don't wear out their welcome. Yvette's style of playing is also pretty distinct, so there's a lot of catchy riffs in here too.
Moving on to hip-hop now, anything Deca puts out is pretty much a half-hour long dopamine hit for me. His bars are usually more metaphysical and centered around social commentary, so calling his work happy can be a bit of a misnomer sometimes. Much like Obsequiae, the true joy in his music comes from how everything fits together; the dreamy beats, his slick-as-ice flow, the similes and wordplay... My favorite underground rapper by a country mile. Like a more laid-back and spiritual Aesop Rock. Snakes and Birds is probably his best release but it's so hard to choose.
I also want to give a shoutout to Bloem by Fluisteraars here. It's not a happy album, but it's my favorite to come out of the upbeat-sounding black/blackened metal scene that really started getting popular after Sunbather.
Congrats to you and your partner.
Also, lovee seeing some Lykathea Aflame love. Didnt expect to see it here but it makes sense i suppose.
Here are some of favorite happy albums:
Björk - Debut
David Bowie - Black Tie White Noise
Liquid - Green (even the song Bad Vibe sounds optimistic)
Bo Hansson - Magician's Hat (the original Swedish title is Ur Trollkarlens Hatt)
Interesting how we define happy, love this!
Two albums I can think of right away are Astronoid's album Air, and Andrew W.K.'s second album, The Wolf.
Most importantly, congratulations on tying the knot!
Most of Louis Armstrong's discography never fails to put a smile on my face. Wonderful music from a wonderful man.
congrats on you getting married Wyatt you deserve to be happy and also love your vids and I think you are very knowledgeable about music which is pretty cool imo especially as a music nerd myself. Again congrats on you and your now wife being married I wish you both the best.
My go-to happy album is Belinda Carlisle - Runaway Horses. It's such a blissful one that always makes me smile. I could also go with Freedom Call at their softest with The Circle Of Life, the self-titled debut of Danger Danger, and the classic first album of Boston.
Jessie ware, That Feels Good (also I’m going to be Madonna for Halloween : )) love the shout 💖
Welcome back! Glad to see you return in such a positive note. :)
As for my happy picks, here they're are:
Pharoah Sanders - Karma (1969)
Jorge Ben - A Tábua de Esmeralda (1974)
Buena Vista Social Club - S/T (1997)
Mighty Sparrow - Hot and Sweet (1974)
Mort Garson - Mother Earth's Plantasia (1976)
Aretha Franklin - Aretha Now (1968)
Juan Luis Guerra y 4.40 - Ojalá que llueva café (1989)
Helen Love - Love and Glitter, Hot Days and Music (2000)
Michael Jackson - Off the Wall (1979)
Julieta Venegas - Sí (2003)
Carly Rae Jepsen - Her whole discog tbh, lotsobops.
I'm highly aware that a lot of these fall into the latin, pop or tropical tags (as I'm a latino myself), but I don't care. I'm always happy when listening to stuff like this.
All Of Me by Masayoshi Takanaka
Just look the cover. Look how happy he is.
Happy Metal Albums I've heard
Origins - Saor
Any Children of Bodom album.
Galaxy - Babymetal
Myrath - Shehili
Apoptosis - Alleageon
Any Amaranthine album
Call of The North - Frozen Crown (very energetic and uplifting thrashy power metal)
heres a couple of albums that personally make me really happy! Soyokaze Apartment 201- Lamp (most of there discography is a genuine bop!)
Somoku Hodo- Hakushi Hasegawa (really up beat)
any Toše Proeski album, (Toše Proeski is a Macedonian pop singer, that i have grown up with , even though i have gotten into more aggressive and weirder types of music over the years i cant help but get back to listening to him once in a while)
Casiopea- Casiopea
First off, congratulations! Happy marriage!
Second, a few albums or artists that come to mind that make me happy are; Earth, Wind & Fire (Anything in their catalog is good. Album wise, I would go with Raise!), Basement Jaxx’s Rooty, anything Daft Punk (I like Random Access Memories), Ghost’s Infestissumam or Impera, and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way.
Sitting here thinking I cannot think of a happy album I enjoy (apart from Ghost Baths Starmourner but thats arguable) and you mention Rainbow/Dio. Of course!
A really happy death metal/grind metal album i know is Xysma - Yeah , whenever i put that album on i just faze out with a big smile on my face. Very odd but excellent.
A Boat on the Sea by Moron Police. They're a Norwegian prog rock band but the album is totally infectious and catchy and never fails to lift my spirits.
The Invisible King, Captain Awkward, The Dog Song and Isn't it Easy are just total joy!
I was considering putting this one down. It’s such a joyous sounding album, but the lyrics are kinda grim.
I had a feeling that you would do this one next
Gratz on your marriage!
Happy punk, straight edge, have been mentioned here but I throw in specifically; 7 seconds with "The Crew" and "Walk together, rock together" smashed together
For hardcore, Keven Seconds voice is like a friend that has your back and helps you up when you're down and even the "angy" songs are more like you are part of the crew all together telling the bully what time it is!! Along with the positive, punk sing-a-long's that came with this movement.
I think it is awesome you have a broad spectrum of musical taste
Judas Priest - Turbo & Point of Entry
Love - Forever Changes
Happy Mondays - Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches
Mika's Life in Cartoon Motion is my pick. Never heard any album happier than that one.
Bro went from Madonna to Lykathea Aflame 😂 All kidding aside, congrats on your marriage btw, all the best!
OO MELT BANANA yess that album is so fun, for me two airships / exploder falls by candy claws has just gotta be pure euphoria in music form. its amazing. weird pick, but plux quba by nuno canavarro is literally what childlike wonder in audio form sounds like to me, i cant help but smile when its on.
also congratulations on getting married!!
Unicorn Kid - Brain Wash always puts me in a good mood, the peak of the meme seapunk era but done so unironically and fun and truly integrating the seapunk aesthetic, chiptune, and trance in such an uplifting and euphoric way, and almost a decade later and nothing sounds like it imho
and honestly either albums by Plus-Tech Squeeze Box, super maximal j-pop stuff thats just fun
The three happiest albums I know:
Kishi Bashi - Lighght
Gong - Flying Teapot
and
Devin Townsend - Addicted
+1 for Gong. Definitely.
Kyary Pamyu Panyu-Pamyu Pamyu Revolution. A J-pop classic!
Congratulations on the wedding!
Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass - Classics Vol 1. Cheating a little with a compilation but it always puts me in a good mood when I hear it.
Tried to see if anyone's mentioned this one yet, but appears not!
Haruomi Hosono - Philharmony
I'd describe this album as happy in an almost schizophrenic way. Just many moments of manic, and at times wistful, bliss and enjoyment.
From the opening track Picnic with this beautiful bright chord progression and electronic chirps, it's a wonderful mood setter for the rest of the album to come. Funiculi Funicula has a tune most will recognise, and Hosono delivers it in a fun rhythmic pace that's hard not to bop along too. My favourite track though, and the happiest of the bunch, is Sports Men. Just give it a listen and try not to bop your head, or tap your foot, or not feel good in any aspect just listening to it. It's absolutely infectious and brightens my mood everytime just listening to it. Wonderful album!
Wasn’t surprised Yndi Halda would be here. I fell in love with Enjoy Eternal Bliss after it was featured in your top 40 favorite albums ever
Three that immediately come to mind for me;
And So I Watch You from Afar - ‘Gangs’
Andrew W.K. - ‘I Get Wet’
Fang Island - ‘Fang Island’
The two I can think of are:
Colma - Buckethead
Yes - Yes
I know Colma shouldn't make me so happy- but it does, and Yes's self-titled album has a lot of happy vibes!
First I want to say congrats on the marriage. But I would add either "Celebrate" from Kool and the Gang or Earth Wind and Fire "That's the way of the world"
"wannadies - bagsy me". or the frank zappa live album "buffalo", posthumously released in 2007. congrats on the wedding to you and your missus \m/.
Nice Intestine Baalism shirt, Wyatt! Congratulations to you and your new wife!
Heavy Load - Death or Glory always makes me happy and cheerful. Also Filth Hounds Of Hades by Tank
Congratz on the marriage! As for the albums that come to mind when looking into something more happy these are the ones that come to mind:
Tom Tom Club - Tom Tom Club
Talking Heads - either Speaking in Tongues or Stop Making Sense OST
Cyndi Lauper - She's So Unusual (I'm getting pretty heavy on the 80s stuff, I know)
Beck - Midnite Vultures
Pet Shop Boys - Bilingual
YMO - Naughty Boys
Shonen Knife - either Burning Farm or Let's Knife
Sweet Baboo - The Boombox Ballads
New Order - Technique
The War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding
The KLF - Chill Out
Any Bonkers comp lol (I just enjoy Happy Hardcore, don't come for me)
Any Happy Mondays too!
I forgot Lemon Jelly! Lemon Jelly (and Fred Deakin) has to be probably the most joyful thing ever!
Allo Darlin' - s/t is probably the most adorable album i've ever listened to. It certainly makes me very happy when listening to it. I know about Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and her album Nanda Collection is supposedly the giddiest jpop album ever but i've yet to listen to it.
“There’s Nothing Wrong With Love” by Built To Spill is lush and beautiful and one of the happiest sounding albums I’ve ever heard. Big recommend.
👍
Congrats for getting married bro! Nive video as always.
Edit: Im happy that Cocteau Twins are here!
Sunbather is a happy album for me
Congrats !
I have two albums that give me insist happiness, Techno by Electric Callboy and Metal Resistance by Babymetal. Both just make me want to dance and have fun. Fun in metal needs to be more widespread cause these guys are just amazing. Also The Cure Lovecats really makes me happy just because you can't help but smile while listening to it, I definitely agree with you with the ABBA take, grow up loving that band.
my number 1 album that always makes me really happy is rustie's glass swords from 2011, its just so sparkly and insanely well produced and kicked off a huge trend in electronic music thats still active today, the ultimate irony being that rustie some years later completely disappeared off the face of the internet due to very deep depression.
Scissorfight always put a smile o my face, massive riffs and goofy lyrics. As for pop, Shakira i think has a happy vibe
Primal Scream's Screamadelica always came off as being incredibly blissful and upbeat to me, it feels like an acid rave on the sunniest beach you could imagine
I'm surprised Baby Metal didn't make it on your list. As it has been said already Japan makes a lot of cute or happy music. I'd say Versailles would fit the bill, a mix of softer power metal and uplifting anime music.
I mean I guess early Beatles could be considered happy albums
But my favorite band Chicago makes me happy regardless what song is playing
First up , congratulations to you and Clara getting married ! I wish you both the best . So the albums that give me a positive /happy vibe, that first come to mind are Bad Brains "rock for light". That song "Attitude " lifts me up,in particular. Also Fleet Foxes self titled album makes me feel how magical and beautiful life can be. Finally Big Star "#1 Record" makes me happy and a bit sentimental. The song "13" was the first song my daughter played "fingerstyle" on guitar when she was 12 and I get fuzzy good vibes when I hear it. The Whole album puts me in a good mood though. P.S Loved those photos from your wedding and Iceland that you posted on Instagram . Love is the best!
For buckethead pikes 1, 8, 46, 49, 51, 65 (probably the most incredible way any musician has ever mourned a loss), 72, 95, 104, 128.
I’d say slipping through my fingers by abba is a tear jerker
R.L. Burnside always makes me ecstatic with his hypnotic up beat delta blues
Memory Box by Grandmas Cottage is a dungeon synth album, but the subgenre is a more uplifting type called "comfy synth" and something about the record is so adorable it almost makes me tear up
Also either album by Iron Griffin. Literally traditional heavy metal lullabies. One of a kind band and I LOVE them
Dungeon Master of Ceremonies by MC Chris. Very happy and positive vibes.
definitely songs in the key of life
elvenefris is a great pick btw
Amesoeurs’ self titled album makes me happy. Their lyrical content is about industrial misery and modern society, their music is literally the sound of what a dislike for modern society feels like, it’s very comforting to hear and their music is general is just incredible. It’s not downright depressing and outlandish, but just the simple sadness we all feel put into music.
For me, The Jester Race by In Flames and Scum's Purple Dreams and Magic Poems are the most uplifting albums i know.
the essence of Melodic Metal, musical perfection.
Ps. Love the Lykathea Aflame mention, Elvenefris was the first album that got me hooked on Tech Death.
I would say Los Jaivas - Aconcagua is a very happy album. Every album they have is a happy celebration of south american culture, in lyrics, instruments and music, but Aconcagua has a very 'festive' vibe and attitude, just listen to Mambo de Machaguay, it sounds like something you would hear on a Peruvian dancing party
Andrew WK’s I Get Wet usually puts me in a good mood. Aside from that I’d just say Pop punk in general lol
Wow Dresden Dolls is actually one of the most creepy bands that I know. Not only in their lyrics but it also sounds like there is something really dark lurking.
First of all, congrats to your marriage!
My personal go to happy album would be:
Lantlos - Melting Sun
That whole album sounds like a really happy dream where you can forget all your worries.
Albums that are worth a mension are:
We Butter The Bread With Butter - Das Album
It's really fucking stupid and gives me chuckles every time I listen to it, most of that comes down to the songtext though, which is in German.
Kristofer Maddigan - Cuphead OST/ Cuphead DLC OST
Cuphead is inspired by old cartoons and the music gives me the same nostalgic feeling, bringing me back to a time with nothing more to do than to play and have fun. But it's also a really happy and playfull album even if you ignore the nostalgia factor of it.
Any Yes album could go on this list too honestly
Smoove & Turrell - Antique Soul ☀️
De La Soul, 3 feet high and rising. Definitely brings happy, positive vibes.
my list of happy albums and the ones I recommend would be
1- The Archies - Everything's Archie from 1969, and This Is Love from 1971
2- Heavy Load - Stronger than Evil
3- 国分友里恵 Yurie Kokubu - Relief 72 Hours
4- Electric Light Orchestra - Out of the Blue
5- Pretty Maids - Red, Hot And Heavy
6- Stryper - To Hell With The Devil
7- Stormlord - At The Gates Of Utopia
8- Afrika Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force - Planet Rock - The Album
9- Enigma - M C M X C a. d
10- Rainbow - Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
and in fact I would also include Rainbow Rising and Elvenefris by Lykathea Aflame since they are some of my all-time favorite albums and I agree with your opinion that they are quite happy albums
I love Lykathea aflame so much. I love Cryptopsy and Arabic music so it’s just perfect
If I had to pick an album that exudes positivity, it'd have to be the Stratovarious album called Infinite.
It was released squarely at 2000, and contains some of the most positive and hopeful songs I've ever heard. I like to think of it as the "what could have been"-attitude of the new millennium, if not for the various atrocities that were conducted in that decade, such as the 9/11 attacks...
The 9-minute track "Infinity" exemplifies the album, with its realization that things are troubling, but they can still be made better.
