I am Japanese and I could find little information about him even by googling in Japanese. Just a forum of his fans from 20 years ago. How could someone find about him. It's so mind-boggling.

Tbh I would love to see you discuss more obscure or straight up weird folk music. As after only just checking out a bit of Kengo Iuchi I am absolutely loving it.

I would love to see more videos like this, Metal is such an easy target for disturbing topics, but in a more intimate genre where lyrics can be a focus, Folk can be disturbing on levels that Extreme Metal can’t reach.

This musician sounds very interesting. You gotta give it up for Japan for having some of the most avant-garde artists out there.

I took the time to listen to Utsu after you shared it on Instagram because the artwork really caught my eye. I loved how even the quietest moments of it sounded completely unhinged, like the musician was right at their breaking point before going into a complete meltdown in the more chaotic parts.

you bringing up sun city girls also reminds me of the 90s psychedelic garage rock scene in Japan, some of my most recent favorites come from them. Les Rallizes Denudes being the most obvious but theres also dope bands like white heaven, shizuka, high rise, LSD March, and my personal favorite Angel'in heavy syrup. Theres also the crazy experimental and improvisational stuff futshitsusha along anything Keiji Haino related and acid mothers temple. Those last two get lumped into the harsh noise scene with les rallizes denudes but ultimately overshadow an awesome subsect of comforting and "chill" music as one would put. Nothing crazy but im sure you'll like some of the recs hopefully

Hey dude (Wyatt?), you should check out Grim (Japan) if you haven't already, especially Factory Ritual LP.. On a par with Linekraft, yet totally different. On a different note, try Space Machine (aka Masonna) which is really visionary. Good luck. Good pod.

That album art for ‘Depression’ is…something else. Unsettling is an understatement. What is it with Japanese artists and their knack for crafting some of the most nightmarish and bizarre imagery you could possibly imagine?

I'm definitely up for Japanese folk music. Jazz is my music of comfort, though maybe not the jazz you might be thinking of. It's closer to Swing, but the era it was written there wasn't as much of a distinction between the two. French Jazz is kind of its own beast.

I’d say Jandek and Kengo Iuchi are really similar. I prefer Iuchi, I’ve been listening for years. Absolute masterful project. I found him through his collaborator I believe, or that split he was on with the Japanoise project. But yeah it was from Japanoise and experimental music from Japan (and I’m an extremely causal enjoyer of Japanese noise btw)

Maybe I should check him out once more. Before I heard "Anata no Kyouki no Haru ga Saku" years ago, I already knew Keiji Haino's "Watashi dake?", so this kind of music wasn't that much of a surprise.

I was suggested some of his works by a cultured fella, in particular San Sheng Shi [ 三生石 ] (a free impro ultra-psychedelic guitar solo album from 2008) and his latest collaborative project from 2023 歲寒三友 Les trois amis de l'hiver

I cannot find lyrics or anything about lyrical content of the album or its purpose. I know that this is more about music, yes but still (about musical structure, production and so on i could find but nothing about their debut)
