Sweet! What an awesome idea. I love how the light reflects off the polycarbonate lids too. Great idea on the hinges. I never knew they existed. Thanks for the awesome tip. 👍
Thanks so much! I normally make a cheapo lid with the polycarb but opening the whole lid is annoying with lights and stuff. I often out food containers on top as well and they all slide around. I used meta hardware store hinges before and they work but look bulky. I found these acrylic hobby hinges and they actually kind of look intentional like they were made for this. The finished product looks very clean
Thanks so much! 😊it's really simple and easy to do yourself if you ever want to try it. You can get smaller sizes of the greenhouse panels but I know having a bigger panel let me make a lot of lids and the price per lid ends up being very cheap compared to getting glass lid kits even with the acrylic hinges added to the price
Excellent job .. man those nano fish are escape artists. Sorry. Excellent diy with polycarbonate and those hinges... I need to add more kids as I have a few open. Big 👍
I have used the poly lids for years in my fishroom. They are great. The only issue I have ever had with them is when moisture get's inside the lid itself and algae grows. It is a PITA to clean each individual cell...especially on larger panels. I seal all of my edges now with silicone.
haha you would use a jigsaw :p always a lil overkill :p ooh i like those lil hinges. I've been wanting to make some lids like that for a while just cant bring myself to spending the 50 bucks on the sheet :p GREAT job brother.
i bought like 2 or three sheets of this stuff when i moved in and i cut lids for my 180 and 125 and that was most of it but i keep scrap cuts and stuff for situations like this. Its so easy to just make a couple cups and use stick on hinges and its a good look and functional improvement. overall its a fraction of the cost of the glass lids
Yeah it was definitely a surprising bummer for me. I thought the original lid would have been fine but these guys really wanted to explore I guess :( definitely can't do it now though that's for sure
This lid is still going strong. It’s a Fluval LED light with an aluminum body that does not get very hot. I’ll add that these are greenhouse panels intended to be used as an external building material that is directly exposed to the sun.
I definitely need hinges on my tank!
I added the link to the description they are really cheap 10/10 recommend
I dig those hinges. Nice, clean DIY project.
Glad you like them! I’ve been using them for a while now and they are working great and the adhesive hasn’t degraded one bit
Nice instructional video Alex, sorry on the loss of your 3 fish. But am sure you won’t lose anything else in that tank now with the new lids on. 👍
Thanks, yeah i hope not. im happy with how it turned out
love seeing your passion for the aquariams! keep up the good work
Thanks, Shelby

Man, they somehow knew there was a small opening and decided to give it a try!! 😮😮
Your DIY cover truly came out phenomenal.
Great video.

Indeed! I have a couple of projects my self, so I will try them out.

Wow, thank you!
I like the idea of adding hinges for access
Making life easier :)

Yeah I hope so :) thanks stopping by CAR
Keeping them safe now 🥰
Thanks I will!

I agree that's an issue on some of my other poly lids. I may tape off the sides like aquarium delirium does with his lids.
That's a good short term solution. Have a great day.

@@FathomAquatics yes sir i might just have to bite the bullet and get some so ic an make some lids for these tanks in this fish room.
Are you going live if so yay 😂
Not tonight I’m doing stuff around the house
@FathomAquatics all Good alex I had to try hahahaha 😆
😉😊
It’s crazy how that can happen with the smallest of openings.

Had to stop bye again to get hinge part number.
Awesome! I just bought 3 more packs so hopefully there's still some left for you
I'M betting the light warped that thin cover very quickly
