How are tennins a result of poor maintainance. If you don't like the brown tint use purigen.
@@johnforte3466 tannins aren’t necessarily a result of poor maintenance, but if you don’t want tannins and you have some then it means you probably want to do some maintenance and add purigen
These are some interesting little fish. Thanks for sharing!
I’m glad you like them! I’m excited to watch them grow.
Do any of the alternatives work as well and how long until you have to switch out the purigen?
Chemipure blue is a comparable product to this but still has its differences and doesn’t do entirely the same thing. I like activated carbon that should be replaced every 3-4 weeks, purigen doesn’t have a specific timeframe until it depletes. It entirely depends on the bioload of the aquarium. You’ll have to monitor it and when the purigen is depleted it turned a brownish red color and that’s when you know it’s time to either recharge it or replace it
@@FathomAquatics thank you I've got a 235g I'm putting together now

thanks for the highlight of the show
@@mexicalifishkeeper maybe next time you’ll be one of the highlights, maybe the San Antonio show
I'M betting the light warped that thin cover very quickly
This lid is still going strong. It’s a Fluval LED light with an aluminum body that does not get very hot. I’ll add that these are greenhouse panels intended to be used as an external building material that is directly exposed to the sun.
Can anyone find one for sale? They appear to be scarce.

👋😀 FATHOM!! You can make some good shorts from this.
That's a great idea!
Really appreciate the coverage of this. My only suggestion would be to record it instead of live stream it. Watching the playback is rough at 720p and it's hard to see a lot of what is filmed. Thanks!
You just need to wait for the hd to process. I think you watched the video immediately after it the steam ended. It looks good on my phone now
Looks ok on my phone bro ❤@FathomAquatics
@@Craig.catfish Thanks for the confirmation Craig
@@FathomAquatics Try watching it on your pc. I just skimmed through it again and there are still frame rate issues with a cap at 720p
Mine are turning out to be some of my favorite fish. Really fun to watch. Congrats
Crossing my fingers they breed
@ keep the water hard and temps low and you’ll be ok
Cool looking fish Alex! Name makes sense; they look like tiny trout 😁 I’m extremely ignorant to this kind of fish. Are they a kind of guppy?
They are similar to guppies but a totally different family. They give live birth like guppies do, however instead of having large numbers of babies every 3-4 weeks, these fish have just a few pretty large fry a handful of times a year. Very cool little fish im excited to watch in my fishroom
@@FathomAquatics I’m excited to see them in a future update. Fishroom looks like it’s coming together nicely! Idk if you’re planning on it but I’d love to see a walkthrough of your fishroom one day.
@@The_Koi_Pit theres a couple things i want to move around before i show off the fishroom all the way but ive popped in some live streams and shown a little bit. its coming together. only been here a couple months now
I never use the basket in any hob waste of space is what I always say
thats one way to do it !
Alex the aquascaper. Welcome to the Darkside
Don’t you bring that evil on me
Outstanding video quality! As a “fish tuber” i strive to have quality like this. What is your filming setup? Camera? Mic? Editing software? Also where did you learn?
Hey thanks :) the biggest thing I can say is to improve each video to be better than the last. Pick something you thought wasnt done the best and improve it, and then the next video you do it again and you start building almost like a checklist of things and your video is where you want it over time. I also dont mind talking about my equipment but i think its a pitfall people get trapped in. You can film on your phone, and edit with something free like capcut. the first thing i would buy are some lights and then an external mic. i use a nicer camera and a professional video editing software but its only for ease of control. everything im doing i can do with a phone and capcut.Im actually working on a video series that will go public eventually to help fishtubers elevate their content. so to answer your question i use a sony mirrorless camera, a hollyland lark microphone, and i edit on premiere pro, but again i would focus on lighting, and external microphone thats close to your face, and work on improving with that before dropping a lot of money. feel free to hit me up on instagram where we can go back and forth and talk about this stuff im always around
Amazing ❤
Thanks Craig, I’m really excited about these guys.
Good video brother
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
They got pretty nice patterns.
Yeah they are just like little trout!

Those are 20 talls?
They are indeed! Just regular 20 talls turned on the side. The far left one is like an inch shorter because some are different brands. I got them from a Facebook post
@@FathomAquatics on my 6 10 gallon ones my far right one is shorter as well because a different brand :p
Looking great Alex thanks for sharing 😊
My fish room is not as nice as yours but it will be a forever work in progress
Great straightforward video. I’ll have to try that bag trick. I usually use a piece of plexiglass. That works but then you have to grab it off the bottom.
Yeah I like that the water stays put for the most part.
Such great camerawork Alex! I think this is the first time I've actually seen what this fish actually looks like close up! They are actually very pretty and a hidden gem 💎 for sure! Good luck with them! I am sure you will have many amazing babies soon! Thanks again for another wonderful video! ❤
I appreciate the kind words about the camerawork, they definitely are a beautiful fish! I’m working on getting more close ups
Hi Alex .Really pretty coloring. How large do these get? Subscribed a while ago and supporting from my channel @joy of fish keeping
I enjoy your channel too! These get just a couple of inches. They are kind of like guppies and they are livebearers just way less common and much harder to find
@@FathomAquatics have not seen them before. Thank you

If the fish does have parasites or something won't the whole canister become infected?? Idk- I quarantine w/sponge because I can throw it out or clean it after. Idk
@@sghettinona yes but also this is not a little fish, and I need more than a sponge filter to keep this tank going to avoid water quality issues. Since this video, the lungfish has grown a lot and is in a bigger tank now. The filter is on the same tank and I’m growing out some baby bichir in there :)
@@FathomAquatics baby bichars! YAY. Oh-I wasn't telling you, I was asking. Anyway - I enjoyed watching a bunch of your shorts and a few videos. Nice work
Great video.
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Cool intro. I can't think of anyone having complaints about inkbird. So- Enjoy
It’s been great for me so far :)
Great review Alex, I need to check out their line of products to see if they have just a simple water temp tracker.
They have a floating thermometer for pools/ponds
That's where you put everyone's stickers... inside of your mailbox Alex! 🤣🤣🤣 I have about 25 of these things. A few have failed at the probe and I have got the manufacturer to send me new ones and I replaced them myself. It was easy. I have many different models obviously since I have been buying them for the past 10 years I believe. 🤷🏻♂️😁😇 Great video as usual Alex! ❤ I wish I had a video like yours when I bought my first one!! Thanks Buddy! 🙏🍻🍻
Very cool, if I run into any malfunctions I’ll update this video
very good and informative great job brother.
Much appreciated💪
Pretty cool how you saw the ap for the very first time with us to show how easy it is not just some professional coming in already knowing how to work it and making us feel dumb.
Yeah I wanted to get the raw experience to show if I had any problems other people might have
wow even a double relay to make sure you are covered even if one fails. they are really helping keep your fish safe.
I trust it so far 😎
pretty awesome to have two sensors as one can always go bad and you have a second one for a failsafe.
I know, right?
Very nice controller, some are so small it's hard to even know what your trying to do.
Tell me about it. I can see this from across the room
Another great video 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it Curtis! I got another one cooking up right now :)
Another super high quality video. Nice demo for how to setup and use the Inkbird. Thanks Alex!!!
Glad you liked it Todd! Thanks for the support
How was the noice ? Is it quiet?
So I’ve had this filter running nonstop since this video and to be honest I haven’t even had to service it so far. It’s one of the quietest canister filters I’ve ever heard. It’s quieter than my fx4
I liked the water pour shot 👍👍👍
Thanks the way I made that shot work was definitely super sketchy but it worked 🤣
I have 6 of them in use for a while and one ready to place. They are amazing. Wont “leave home without them” they do sell internationally with plugs to fit your local style
