Had I been a surviving member of your estate, before even meeting with you, I would have created copies of numerous photos and placed them into an album to present to you as not only a testament to the love this home embraced with family memories but equally to the provenance of an ongoing legacy. I am inspired by your videos and you as a person. Cheers! Darryl
Thank you Darryl! I would have ABSOLUTELY done the same! For my previous homes, I wrote a "hand-off" letter to my buyers, and specifically for my first home, left a framed copy of the house from when it was listed in the newspaper in 1914. Maybe someday they will come around and I'll get the opportunity to see it as it was, keep your fingers crossed!
First off you have the most beautiful cats. We restored a 1912 home back to its original glory. I love this old house, I'll never sell it, I am alone now and when I leave for good they will have to carry me out feet first. You have a beautiful home there. Enjoy it and your cats.
Thank you so much! I'm quite fond of them, too! Where abouts in the world is your home? It's a funny thing to connect so well to a building and feel how truly special it is
When you walk into a dwelling and it speaks to you on that level, everything eventually falls into place. Congratulations on the aquisition of the "Estate" and all the hard work and pride you have expereinced as its new custodian. I know you worked dilligently, not once, but twice to make this a reality. Speaking of Reality, while you are doing all the work, the "House" actually chose you!! I am confidant you will have an outstanding lifetime relationship with this beautful home, (Estate). Thank you for sharing so much of your journey(s) with all of us!!!
Thank you for that! I think it’s a mutual relationship as well… when it’s meant to be then it just happens, even if you’re in another country when it does. I love this old bird!
I have binge watched all your videos. I just want to say thank you. You’ve given me the courage to do the upgrades I’ve been too nervous to do on an old family home I just acquired. Also your sense of humor is spot on. I’m so glad to have found your channel!
Love listening to your plan and history of your house. It makes me miss my 110 year old house I sold a few years ago! Many similarities! I was drinking my coffee this morning and said " oh it's Wednesday! Sean must have a new video out" so I was happy to see this 2 part video! I consider my style dark academia too. Although I have a lot of white and creams. I do have some moody colors in my furniture. And lots of books, old cameras, typewriters etc. I think it has the basic vibes of academia style. So I think that style is open to interpretation. Have a great week!
I get such a grin from anyone being excited for the Wednesday posting, thank you for saying that! It's definitely open to interpretation; where's the fun in having to follow a cookie-cutter mold? I've seen some images of homes with this aesthetic and they take it very creepy/dark, and that's fine! Everyone marches to their own beat!
Starting your video with your two lovely cats, why not Sean.😍Been waiting for your new video to drop off this week and it's a two-parter! I dig you're telling us the history of the Estate and a whole game plan tour to boot. I'm drawn to the living room, too. So many possibilities in that area alone. So looking forward to your coming videos! ❤
You certainly have your work cut out for the kitchen. You have some wonderful ideas and I can’t wait to see the implementations. Ceiling fans are a necessity! The fan in my bedroom has been on for thirty years non stop 😂
Not sure why the YT algorithm pointed me to your channel but so glad it did. Maybe because I am an avid DIYer or maybe some of the other channels I subscribe to like Tyler & Todd or PJ & Thomas. I binged your first two 'seasonS' right around Christmas. I have a feeling your channel is going to take off spectacularly. i enjoy listening to your commentaries on your homes. And shout out to your fur babies.....KATZ R KEWEL!!
@@restoring_sean We lost our beautiful 16 and 1/2 year old blind since birth kitten back in March. Since then, we took in a neighborhood wild cat. I had her spayed a couple of months ago and even though she wants to go outside, she has adopted us back. Everytime I let her out I a say a little prayer for her to come back safely. They are wonderful creatures.
Phew! I may have to watch part one again before I move on to part two. Kudos to you for remembering and being able to cogently explain it! Can’t wait for part two but part one is beckoning me back. Happy New Year!🎆
I really like the way you restore and decorate. I am kind of different in my decorating too. I have a Halloween wall that stays up year round. And I have alot of owls and crows and my most recent project was a 1907 Detroit Jewel lp gas stove. I will be glued to your vidoes to see how you make your new home special. 😊
Thank you! I think having something a little quirky in each space is the way to go if that's your personality. Be weird, who cares, as long as you enjoy it!!
I think you have done a wonderful job restoring your home and staying true to the time period of the house. I myself do not particularly like wood tone trim especially if it is not present throughout the house. I have been accumulating items to incorporate the dark/light academia design style. So far, I have some old books, brass wall sconces, an old typewriter and several busts. Now I just need to choose bedding and a paint color.
LOL, I'm out of order, too! I just watched part 2, thinking it was your next video, and I don't really care. I'm watching part 1 while commenting here! 😁
Loved this episode and hearing all the history of the estate. Its wonderful that you were able to bring some of the original cabinets back into the kitchen and it makes total sense updating the cabinets that were done in the 80's as they were not original. At first I wasn't sure about painting the woodwork but it looks amazing after being completed.
So excited to see the process, Sean. The little we have seen is beautiful. Love the honeycomb pattern in the living room ceiling. What a great idea! Dark academia is not always the Slytherin common room. It can be many things. Your version is yours, and it’s great. What is the name of the color in your kitchen?
Howling in laughter at the Slytherin common room, that is SO true! And thank you! RThe wall color in the kitchen is 'Felted Wool,' the main cabinets are 'Riverway,' and the spice rack is 'Muddled Basil,' all by Sherwin Williams!
Back in the 80s, my mother watched a home improvement show hosted by (I think) Christopher Lloyd. He was a hoot, and famous for saying, "Just because it's wood, doesn't mean it's special!" to the pearl-clutchers who were appalled and aghast when he'd paint the baseboards or doors. Let them eat cake! It's your house, your call. Your vision. Can't wait for part two!
My mom deals with her drafty old original 1910s windows in a unique way. She cuts up holiday cards and shoves the paper in all the little cracks. Years from now a new owner is going to be finding little pieces of paper and lord knows what else and having a wtf moment 😂
That is one of the most amazing things that has been shared with me, lmao, THANK you! What an interesting idea! And I definitely believe someone is gonna just stare in confusion someday, lol.
A new term I came across recently is 'Dark Cottagecore' which walks hand in hand with 'Dark Academia". My basement/TV room is more along the Academia theme where I implemented a lot of things I used when I homeschooled my kids. The cottage version, to me, would work great in kitchens (think apothecary) and dining areas.

All of them!? Well thank you! I'm so happy you found this too, and I hope it all goes amazing! Keep me updated!
You work hard so Paulo and Sophia can live in a beautiful home ✨🏠✨
They earned it!
Splendid plans and choices.
Thanks!

Thank you! I'm always on the lookout for items, and try to find neat things at antique malls and such, I just wish they weren't so pricey sometimes.

I think making these two-parters as two-premieres ends up messing it all up, lol. Thank you for persisting and watching both!!
This is your lighting, Sir. Those eyes!
Thank you!

We'll dive in deep on the wood work next week, too! I appreciate you being open to the changes, sometimes it's a hard sell!
All my favorites. Old books, clocks, apothecary old framed photos and lithographs love dark academic style
I should look into finding some lithographs!

how many square feet is The Estate?
Great question! The estate is about 2,400 finished square footage, so not including the basement.
