You inspire me. Clutter has crippled me from such overwhelming weight of not knowing what to do with it and letting go, afraid I may need later. I love your simple answer. If it is overwhelming, it has to go. I hope to make my first loaf of homemade bread one day, thanks to you. You are so appreciated. Everything you do and say helps more than you know. Thank you!
Before the new year I told my husband I was going to start making sourdough in 2025. He said “why are you prioritizing that? We barely eat bread as it is.” (I’m sure that will change when we have kids haha) I was so surprised, because I see all the wives online making sourdough, so I thought I needed to, as well. I even had started having a very bad internal reaction when I saw people I know making it before I did - gross jealousy because they had accomplished something I had yet to figure out. My husband’s words made me take a step back and realize I had put sourdough on some pedestal as some big goal I needed to achieve. I guess I thought being able to make it would inherently make me a better wife and homemaker. The real truth is that my husband just wants me to be happy, calm, and kind. Any homemaking I do should stem from that, and my faith, not from some need to achieve a mediocre goal. Anyway, just appreciated your comments on not really enjoying the sourdough process or the taste! Haha
I’m with you, Kelsey. I don’t like sour dough either. Please don’t apologize, that’s just your preference.😊 Thank you for promoting, “from scratch” cooking and detoxifying your home. Processed foods and chemicals are making us sick. Keep the videos like this coming please. Love it.
Thank you for sharing your journey. I love how you include each child in helping in the kitchen. Everyone needs purpose and feel needed. That’s a good way to do it.
I love this. I am doing the 365 d declutter, so at least one item every single day=365 less items in your home. But at the same time its creating a view for me that we simply do not need all these extras. If you find something that works with your hair please share! I have tried several times over with no luck but keep us posted! Thanks for all you do 💕
Great video! I am so glad you will be milling your wheat again! When I found you were dabbling with it which is why I was interested - and I found I loved your video and your faith! Looking forward to your natural homemaking episodes to come!!
Great message Kelsey. I understand what you're talking about with the slipcovers also. Things that need attending to unnecessarily. You have great wisdom from spending so much time with the Lord. I am blessed.
I appreciate your heart behind your videos. It’s about helping who you can help with your own personal experiences and convictions without judging or demeaning others. It’s take it or leave it. I’m certainly far from a crunchy mom. I’m mindful and more focused on moderation than elimination. But I can watch your videos and not feel offended or pressured. I would love to understand your schedule more. Do you have a certain day of the week where you do the majority of your cooking of staple items such as bread and snacks? I homeschool and I’m a homemaker and I struggle to also keep my house clean and also make all the food from scratch and o don’t even have a farm or garden to maintain as well. I’d love if you could give a lay out of your week. If you already did and I just haven’t seen it, I apologize.
We mill our own hard wheat berries into flour, and I’ve realized the only kind of sourdough we like is same day sourdough where you feed your starter the night before the mix the dough in the morning and bake that night. It’s so mild and moist; perfect! I only make bread once a week. I find that the bread is soo sour if you put it in the fridge overnight. There’s 20 million recipes, but the same day ones, like what More than Farmers uses is great! Ours isn’t the same as their, but so great! Love to see you finding so much peace in living with less. Minimal Mom talks about silent clutter, things that aren’t on your to do list but have a to do list attached to them. Example: toys on the floor say “pick me up,” books say “read me/ return me to the library, rotate me out.” Sue Becker from Bread Beckers will also blow your mind!
Here’s the recipe we use: You’ve got to be using hard wheat berries though or you won’t have strong enough dough. The night before you plan to make bread. Feed your starter. I like to feed 1:2:2 meaning if you have 25g of starter in your jar, add 50 g of flour and 50 g of room temp water (not tap because the chlorine kills your starter) After you feed your starter, mill your flour. Grab a bowl and add 500 g of flour and 400 g of water. Mix it and cover it on the counter. This is called auto lease, but it makes the dough (before you add the starter or salt) super elastic and soft before you even knead it in the morning! In the morning, add 75 g of your bubbly starter, 50g of water, and 12 g of salt. Squish it all together with your hands then get it going in the mixer. It usually takes about 6 minutes or a tad longer. You can test if it’s done using the “window pane test” and that’s easy peasy and accurate. Then cover and I like to put my dough on my stove with the light that’s above it from the microwave to warm the area. As you cook too, it really helps things ferment. This recipe makes one loaf, and your dough will “bulk ferment” for around 6-7 hours if your kitchen runs about 72 degrees. Then your shape your loaf and pop it into a banneton basket or mixing bowl that’s coated with rice flour. I usually have white rice flour that I mill from whatever white rice we have. Just be sure to mill some sort of white rice - I’ve used jasmine, basmati, sushi rice, whatever I have on hand. That prevents it from sticking. Cover the bowl then out the bowl in a plastic bag or I like to use a reusable grocery bag that’s thin. I let that proof anywhere from 1-3 hours just depends on how warm my kitchen is. When my dough passes the “poke test,” I preheat my oven to 485 F with the cast iron Dutch oven (3-5 qt is a great size) and the lid for 30-40 minutes. This usually happens around dinner time, so making bread just happens in the flow of the day batched with other tasks. When the oven is ready, pull out the Dutch oven, put parchment over your banner on basket, and flip out the dough gently. Score an X on it and gently place it in the Dutch oven with the parchment. Add 2 ice cubes behind the parchment so it’s not touching the bread, and lid it. To the oven it goes! 20 min with the lid on and 20-25 min with the lid off. Let it cool in the counter 2 hours, and it’s seriously so delicious!!
I like to do a sort of sourdough compromise. I make a bread sponge in the morning using the sourdough starter, half of the flour and all of the water. and let it ferment for 3 or 4 hours, and then I make the rest of the dough adding in baker's yeast and salt add more flour. Then I let it rise as in making regular bread. It's not sour at all but somehow I feel like the sourdough maybe is a good thing I have no idea really😊 but it's really good bread I can tell you that. I also grind my own flour from the wheat berries. I love this video and I am in the mood for decluttering now 😊
I want to start sewing so bad. We have many clothes that need mending and it’s become a large pile. But also need to declutter before I can get a sewing machine too
I got to ask where do you buy your cloths. I really would like to get to myself too :) I am also on the journey of making bread, I used to make so many sour- everything from radish to cabbadge to eggs from the chickens when I had them, but then I moved a house and I kind of stopped but slowly going back to it, in the last 2 years I was mainly working on Christ and become a follower in thuth then homemaking and it is so expensive, but I have prayed and he showed himself to me, and I was baptized, now I need to pray that he will find me a house that I could and want to make homemade stuff now that my heart is true. I live like very near by where Jesus was waking so he is very present in my life I feel it. Please forgive my hardharted people in this country of the holyland they are hard and deep under the spell of J. and rab bis . so Forgive me because I was J and now I follow Christ.
If I could I wouldn’t do sourdough. I don’t mind the taste but since I have gluten sensitivity, sourdough has helped a bit in that area. Although I will try to purchase a gluten free starter very soon. So I’m looking forward to working with that :) Thank you for this video. I just downloaded that book you mentioned in the beginning. It happens to be available on kindle unlimited 😁😁
Not a sourdough girlie either! My family doesn’t really reach for it , so why waste my time making it🤷♀️ I can make some bomb yeast breads though!!! P.S. Azure Standard’s Country Living Powder Laundry detergent is wonderful! I buy it in the 40# bag👍🏻
How many days of the week do you spend at home? I’m very much a homebody and that has grown since I got my own home, and sometimes I feel guilty about it.
Thank you for the video. I'm in the process of decluttering, too. What is the thought process behind using a homemade all natural laundry detergent and then adding a toxic product with fragrance/perfume?
Be careful of the borax. I was told it can be toxic when inhaling and I saw lot of it in the air as you were pouring into the container. My husband got a lung infection just from opening a bag of barley. It’s the fine powder when you first open the bag or box.
😐🫣 barley? Interesting…I hadn’t heard about Borax but definitely looking into it currently….its all crazy how much more “dust” particles were in the air watching than in person. Thank you for letting me know 🙏
If you are using whole wheat, fresh ground, then you don’t need to do sourdough. I’ve been baking and grinding my wheat for over 24 years now and have tried sourdough and I do not like it. There’s very little to suggest it is actually an ancient thing people did. And if you look further into it, you will discover traditional sourdough was nothing like what is common today. It involved saving a piece of your dough in salt until the next time you wanted to bake bread. Then reconstituting that and making your dough, saving a bit of that in salt and so on. It is a preservation method. Not a health food. I liked the video. I can’t wait to see the new sink and hutch!
Wowww i love reading this. Because I also tried maintaining a sourdough and it was a lot of work for me and my husband didn't like the taste. So, we bought a mill and ordered organic spelt grains and been doing our bread eversince. It way easier for me and I now memorize the process even without reading my recipes.
You may not like the taste of sourdough. I like very tart sourdough, but my mother does not. Some people do not like sourdough at all. It is a personal preference. Just make regular bread. That is still much better than commercially prepared bread.
“Purging toxins…” Pours borax right next to her baby. Borax damages your lungs with breathed in and the particulates are so fine the DO get into the air

Hello, cute little baby 🥰💕
I want to start sewing so bad. We have many clothes that need mending and it’s become a large pile. But also need to declutter before I can get a sewing machine too

Hello 👋 🫂 my friend 🎉✌️
What was the cheese thing you made
Not a sourdough girlie either! My family doesn’t really reach for it , so why waste my time making it🤷♀️ I can make some bomb yeast breads though!!! P.S. Azure Standard’s Country Living Powder Laundry detergent is wonderful! I buy it in the 40# bag👍🏻
I did just buy a bag, but haven’t tried it yet! Yay! Glad I’m not alone 😜
How many days of the week do you spend at home? I’m very much a homebody and that has grown since I got my own home, and sometimes I feel guilty about it.
Uh lol well I spend pretty much all day every day at home, so you’re not alone 😊 I didn’t used to be, but I love being at home now.
There is no place like home. I have to tell myself to socialize when I get the opportunity but I really would rather stay home.😊
Thank you for the video. I'm in the process of decluttering, too. What is the thought process behind using a homemade all natural laundry detergent and then adding a toxic product with fragrance/perfume?
Correct!? lol 😂 I can’t speak on the thought process of my former self….
@faithfulacresfarmhouse I love your answer! Yes, we're a work in progress!
Thank you for letting me know 🙏
I don’t like sour dough either, dark rye is my favourite.
Ooo do you have a bread recipe you love? I have never tried to make rye bread
@faithfulacresfarmhouse hi Kelsey I am experimenting with a few different ones, when I find one that I like ill post it up for everyone.
I’m sorry, but what does “crunchy” mean in this context?
If you are using whole wheat, fresh ground, then you don’t need to do sourdough. I’ve been baking and grinding my wheat for over 24 years now and have tried sourdough and I do not like it. Do you veil during mass?
I do not, but I am planning on getting some.
@faithfulacresfarmhouse 😢
You may not like the taste of sourdough. I like very tart sourdough, but my mother does not. Some people do not like sourdough at all. It is a personal preference. Just make regular bread. That is still much better than commercially prepared bread.
Like you, I do not like sourdough.
Glad I’m not alone 😄
“Purging toxins…”
Pours borax right next to her baby.
Borax damages your lungs with breathed in and the particulates are so fine the DO get into the air
If you ever want a person to change their mind about something or help them on their journey it’s best not to speak to them in a degrading manner, but rather speak to them out of love and concern. Hope you have a blessed day 🩷
No one is perfect. However, we can learn from each other when we approach each other in a constructive, respectful manner.
@@faithfulacresfarmhouse well you already did it so I don’t really care what you do. Perhaps someone else will read this and not do the same thing.
