    I enjoy this video! Dad was a shoemaker. I would spend hours in his shop watching him work until he had to close the doors due to lack of demand in the 1970's. He passed way when I was very young. I would have love to learn the trade. I enjoyed the smell of the glue that can in a gallon can with a lion picture on it.

      Thanks for sharing your nice memory from your dad. Our 5 hour instructional DVDs were made to help keep the dying craft alive.

    Thank you very much! I make seamless wet felted shoes and use cupsoles for them. But I have been very interested in other types of soles and how they are attached. Your soles are a work of art!

    I like that design it looks more stable because of stitching directly through the uppers and sole,I already have the ''needle'' and skiver.

    I make very nice hand made shoes, I started making the stitch down non lasted shoes like this then started using lasts. Is a skill I am happy to have.

    But without the special equipment and materials and glues, etc., how useful is a course that teaches how to make shoes with all that specialized tooling?

    So what's the actual tab for starting this hobby - $150 for the DVD course, then what sort of tool kit? I have only a Tandy Leather Supply store nearby. Does your company sell tool kits or do you recommend a particular set of tools from Tandy? I'm sure there are other leatherwork companies, I just don't know any.

    why did he add toe spring to the shoes? is this really necessary? i've had flat shoes without toe spring (and very flexible soles) and they are very comfortable

    • @Handmade1100
      @Handmade1100  8 років тому

      This is partially to keep from stubbing your toe and detaching the soling layers and also makes walking a little more fluid, especial for stiffer soles. It is an option but not necessary.

    Is it possible to wet mold a shoe?

    • @Handmade1100
      @Handmade1100  8 років тому

      Generally wet molding is done with stiff vegetable/oak tanned leather. it will not help much on chrome tanned leather and will make it impossible to glue.

    So maybe for the first two pairs of shoes, the costs might be around $250? That's not too bad, a good pair of work boots costs about $200. Dress shoes aren't much better.

    • @Handmade1100
      @Handmade1100  8 років тому +1

      $250 could probably get you started with the basic tools and materials. The DVD package comes with lists of needed tools and materials. It can be done without power tools. Tandy Leather Supply would have most of the tools and supplys to get started. We have links to other suppliers on our website. healthyhandmadeshoes.com

    Le faltan varias materias, todo muy rustico y una gran falta de conocimientos, tanto en lo creativo como en conocimientos referente a calidad y buen gusto.

      Ha! Sorry to offend your eyes. The different colors were intended to make each part of the shoe easier to identify and show how you can make a one of a kind pair of shoes. The out stiched, and molded on the foot, certainly is not common but can be cheapest and easiest for a beginner.
