Love this video brothers. Planning a backcountry trip in the next couple of years and packing out has always been a question for me. I'm a Marine so we do plenty of minimalist backpacking/hiking/surviving, but adding on an additional 300lbs of meat/head/horns five days into a mission has been a point of curiosity. This video answers it all. Thanks brothers! Semper Fidelis, David.

Good info even for us old guys. At 75 I'm limited to about 50 pounds, so I'm focusing more on young cows these days that can be hauled out in three loads by myself, but I still get satisfaction in being able to do it, along with enjoying really good meat compared to some of the bulls that I killed in years past. Regardless of your current capabilities, accept help when you can get it; might just help you do it longer instead of only being able to remember when....

That's heavy! I remember heavy pack out trips in my younger days. But now, at 64 years old and only 5'7" and 130 lbs I have to do a lot more trips! It makes me really miss horse pack hunting with my dad!

Lol, my friends are all out of shape. I'd be packing them out too.

Great info, it’s hard to estimate how heavy the pack is . It probably feels heavier than the true weight.

In our case, we did not guess the weight of our packs-we weighed the packs with a scale. It’s nice to know what we can carry and for what distance.

Over the years I’ve never had a pack out over 70pounds each trip it’s a killer at that weight and I stay with 5 mile limit pack in,now at my age that means 70x2 45x2 horns blackstraps 55-1 = at least 45to 55miles in two days under load , it has me saying I’ll never do it again and yet here I am going back again and again.. if I am successful 😳 you guys are machines doing that weight at 8 miles

Love the factual info to. I weigh things when I get home to. It’s good info to have. And men should not be using soy sauce on anything. Soy is extremely bad for men.

Only 280 lbs for head and all the meat? I've only killed one elk, but deboned meat alone was a hair over 400 lbs. Glad I only had 3 miles to go, took 5 trips, but it took all night. Final load back to the truck just as the sun was rising. I crashed hard when I got back to camp, slept like the dead.

My brother and I shot 2 bulls, 9 miles deep, within an hour. It was 3 days of pain. It seemed to be more like 350# of meat on a good bull.

I haven't hunted big game, but I'm stunned people are talking about leaving organs. Intestines can be sliced open and rubbed on a stick, so poo weight is low. and even if it smells like poo until.yoy soak it in a clean bucket of water....it's gonna be forty feet at a pound every two feet or something like that. Lotsa meat. Makes good soup. Each kidney must be over a pound or two. I just described 24+ pounds that Brian call said he doesn't pack out. That's ten percent. But I'm the kinda guy if I am eating fish I drop the carcass remnant in boiling water. And then just suck all the meat off the bones. Only takes a minute really. Saves money and good nutrition. I think these guys are city slicker princesses.

Any one in the comments can recommend a decent affordable pack that doesnt need super heavy loads for light times in the public lands, or short hiking trips? my fiance and i cannot afford kifaru packs... we would love some of those but we poor people out here lol

      My $.02:
Stick with the Cabelas, Alpz, Horn Hunter packs. Those will get the job done for what you need at a price that won’t crash your banking app on your phone. I’ve packed out whole pigs and goats with my Horn Hunter and Cabelas Bow/Rifle pack. I also use these packs for shoreline fishing day and overnight trips...Then again, I live in Hawaii and have never hunted the states...🤷🏻

If you watch the sales you can get into a Kuiu pack for cheap. I got my 2200 for $325 on sale a few years ago. Have packed multiple whole deer, several cow elk and one bull with it. It works great! They usually have a big sale toward the end of hunting season.

With all do respect, I think your full of crap with the 140 pound 8 mile pack out weights.
Up and down very steep hills etc...listen, I was in the army 21 years and 19 days, I was with the best the army had to offer...I don’t care how much you think you workout, I don’t believe you!

People run the BigFoot 200 race every year. That's much harder and crazier than what I do. The point of this podcast is not to boast. The point is to show people what can actually be done. I film and show my hunts every year so people can see what can be done and get out there and do it themselves. With all do respect, If you think this is too much, I'm not so sure you were the "best" the army and to offer.
